Welp, not so much happening around free agency recently. It looks like the teams are all set and the remaining free agents (Melo, Lin, and others) are not going to be playing next season. Any news on Jr Smith? I believe he was also waived.

Hehe, why seriously discussing the capability of Pacquiao to buy an NBA team.

It's just a simple quick question by one of the interviewers. Therefore, the response will be what's the People' Champ currently think of that whether there is a sure plan for it or just a desire. So for a quick response, he says that he is thinking of that and no other details were given. No need to extract more info about it unless he made a statement about it officially and some actions are now being made.

Period.

I guess it is really an issue for other people when an Asian suddenly have so much money and what a part of the game in another country. Grin

Although Manny made his money from boxing, I can see that he got love for basketball. Hell, he even plays with one team in Philippines which can be watched in local channel.
That one is big.
That may be the reason this questioned popped out and also about owning one league in his country.

May is not a billionaire, at least in dollars, I saw a youtube video about the richest boxer in sports, and Manny was only rank no. 3 with 200 million usd net worth. I don't know if that data is reliable but I could believe he is not that rich. He can own  PBA team but not an NBA team.
I think he can qualify to as a stake holder though i don't know what's the amount to become one but i think 200 million USD is more than enough for a stake.

If Manny will have a $200m to stake and buy a share on NBA team then that means he has exceeded some rich people in the USA. But I don't think he can afford even the cheapest franchise in the NBA considering he has a lot to finance in his family and his fellow countrymen.

For stake I think that's reliable estimate. A result came out on google about this related topic, the other amounts were outdated but at least we have an idea with the figures and how costly it is to own a team.

So every team has different rate, and I think even at the lowest valued team, Manny can't afford at the moment, unless he will put all his money in the NBA. Buying a low valued team is a good investment if the team would improve in the long run as it will also increase it's value, also the location is one big factor as well, and the popularity of the team which it has build from the past is important.

I'm just curious now on what will happen to the Cavaliers, they were so popular when Lebron was with them but now they are losing fans and there was one time that they were selling tickets at a very low price already.

No need for him to pursue just a stake if he has $200 million and then we will be bankrupt for the rest of his life. Pacman will do fine without owning NBA team. He has higher goal now in politics, to be the first fighting President of the Philippines and that will be one huge accomplished, even greater than owning a NBA franchise.

So it can go either way, they can choked and not finished in the top 3 or rise to the occasion and be have a very successful NBA team. Other teams are also laden with NBA or even ex-NBA players so it will be very tough for this young college players, just saying.

Some will just assume that because it's team USA they are really good.
Only those who study each teams will know which team has a great value for betting, and with the current odds of team USA, I'm not seeing its value.

I don't know if you guys heard but there has been a lot of people withdrawing from the USA Team this season, they seem to be so tired and so stressed that they are just wanting to relax a bit this off season and work on themselves or spend time with their families, I don't think we gonna have any superstars this season neither. USA Team will be bunch of college students or some smaller stars in NBA as well, even JJ Reddick didn't accept the teams offer.

However, it is always a big deal when USA doesn't bring any good team and then they lose then they return back next time with a superstar filled team and beat the hell out of everyone. Remember the time they lost and then gathered redeem team? That was super entertaining to everyone who didn't play against them Cheesy.
They will at least bring some solid players in the roster though, they know what's going to happen to them if they don't send good good and elite players, they will lose their prestige in the world stage. And countries are already up to par with the NBA evident of them joining NBA already. So it's really a big deal for them and I don't know what NBA players are turning the opportunity to represent their country anyways.
With this, it will bring great competition, but team USA still cannot be underestimated as they are still the favorite to win in the competition.
If majority of the players are college players, well, that would make them so hungry and more motivated to win as it's their first time to play in bigger stage and bring honor to the country.

Correct. That will be worth every game for fame.
They need it to be a superstar in NBA too. For a larger salary of course.

Young guys though tend to make a lot of mistakes specially if they are being combined in just a little time to learn gameplays for them.
They might lose this year if something goes wrong. Other teams might be looking at it now for a chance to get the gold.
It was Spain who broke their record last time.
Who will be it by now?
We can see a lot of international player and it was seen also in NBA All Star World Team.

This is related to NBA so I think it's good to take everyone's point of view regarding this.

I don't know maybe it will be too much for Manny to own a NBA basketball them. He is already busy being a senator and as far as I know, most owners of NBA team are worth billions. So it will be too much of a stretch for him, just saying.
He's going to make history so I don't think its going to be too much for him.

Maybe he can let someone to manage it for him.

Pacquiao is just messing with TMZ when he says he wants to buy a NBA team. He is rich but his not in the BBC (Billionaire Boys Club) so I doubt that the can buy a NBA team. Those owners are either venture capitalist or some hotshot investors. I don't think Pacquiao fit either of those. But I know that he owns a local basketball team in the Philippines and that is the closest he can get, no offence to him.

I agree but I think that is fair to call him rich.

Millions and millions of earning in boxing and also, as far as I know, there are some businesses where he invested his money in and he is a Senator too. I don't know how much earnings you look for so you can label them as rich but comparing that to 80 percent of his countrymen, including mine's salary, that is so high and will be labeled as rich as f***.

Yeah. 2 billion in USD and not in Philippine Peso.
I dont know if Manny have that kind of amount yet.
He did acquire some good profits with his last fights but he have a family and there are necessities to be paid. Taxes, food, mortgage and a lot more.
I do think he had some businesses and they may have been making money.
But think about it, Floyd loves basketball too but he aint doing those kind of investment.
There are a lot more to be bought out there and he also might want to focus on his share with crypto currencies.
