Just as we're talking last time about Ravena's transfer and disappointment into B League. There's another Filipino that's being imported by a team in the B League and I guess that Japan's scouting team is looking for Filipino players and this is a sign that there could be more from our homeland that they'll take into their country for the B League.  Cool

We might not see these PBA players going to other countries to play because of their commitment in their respective teams but we already saw 2 future PBA players playing outside PH just to have experience.
I can't blame Japan though if they will get players from our country because they are offering higher salary and a better basketball experience (at least for me) than here.

Like I said, Japan getting Thirdy will have a domino effect and more and more players whether they aren't PBA players or not will try their luck and play into another country.

Ohh thanks, wow! I'm surprised the Philippines were able to compete with China well, this young lineup is really legit, China is a superior team and yet they were able to tie the score in this tune-up game. I would say, we have a good future ahead. Kail Sotto leads the Gilas with 13 points, this guy is not overrated.
Kinda surprising because China players are tall but their NBA Player Zhou Qi didn't play in that game but overall, its a tune-up game only and it ended up as a draw.
In terms of performance though, yes it looks surprising but this just shows that the future of these young players are bright. I just hope that they will have a successful careers in basketball.

Not at all, Kai Sotto is silently working and he's doing the job so well. The cadets are really performing they almost win the game based from some videos from youtube.

This newly formed team if being guided by veterans and jive well with the system.
The future of Gilas is really far, we have that glimpse from how they are working right now.

To be able to compete with China which we were bully by that team before is a big achievement. The current lineup is full of strength and they are hungry to win because they are well motivated due to the support of the Filipino fans. The success of Gilas is the success of the Philippines so they are really working hard.

They can't wait for Kiefer, so they are looking for other prospects and I think this time they were successful.
It's a different thought but these scouts are focusing on the Philippine athletes that shall take on part of their teams. That's actually good news and for sure those players that are looking for better opportunities, if they've been scouted, they'll also take on their pride and will definitely sign the contract as long as there's no problem with that player and doesn't have an existing contract with a Philippine team in PBA or any other league in our country. Showcasing the talents of Filipino athletes will go abroad and it's not just all about pride but it means that our players are marketable in other abroad leagues.

By the way guys, have you seen the Gilas vs China tune-up game?

I was a bit busy and I was not able to watch it, I also can't find highlights of that game. Did the Gilas win or China just dominate them?

Gilas Pilipinas settled for a 79-all draw with China in an untelevised tune-up game on Wednesday at the AUF Sports and Cultural Center in Angeles City, Pampanga, according to reporting from ESPN5.com's Carlo Pamintuan who was at the venue.

It was a draw both teams scored 79 all. Since this is just an exhibition game, there's no OT here.

El Presidente’ urges SBP to keep Gilas core for Fiba 2023

Quote
BASKETBALL legend Ramon Fernandez believes keeping the young core of the Gilas Pilipinas team will be to the benefit of the country’s campaign in the Fiba World Cup two years from now.

Not that he’s disregarding the significant help PBA players could offer to the national team, but the 67-year-old Philippine Sports Commissioner said it would be better to just focus on working on the cohesion and chemistry of this same unit that just completed a six-game sweep of all its games in the qualifiers for the Fiba Asia Cup.

What can you say about this? would you agree with Ramon Fernandez here?
IMO, I think we should give them a chance, do not replace them with PBA players as they have already proven their worth.

I don't agree with Don Ramon with his idea of sending an All-Cadets to the World Fiba Cup.

We've been humiliated by Serbia last time and the coach even insulted the Gilas team to which he said that the Gilas does not deserve to be in that stage with them, how much more if it is an all cadets team.

We are 6-0 at the moment but remember who are we facing on that games, it is only South Korea who are a tough team. The higher stage we are in, the tougher the opponent we will face. For sure we will lose against the Australians and to the Iranians as they are more gifted than us, height-wise. If the cadets will lose two games against tougher opponents, that's where the talks of having veterans on the squad would come in.

Well we do have split opinions about this since I will agree to send the current line up on the  world cup since this cadets are pretty good their program is advance so I believe that they can compete against the world, We have good height and talents on this current line up so I think they are pretty ready to play against much stronger teams in the world. Although its good to have veterans to guide him but I think if they will add Clarkson on their line  up then they will became more competitive.

I somewhat agree. They're showing good performances with their matches and although it's too early to think about it that's the next matter that the SBP think next. They have the chance if they will go far from the qualifiers and if they've played all together, they already have the chemistry and the team must be kept with its current roster. The chance was already given and they're playing well which only indicates that they're not wasting the opportunity that was given to them and there are those veterans on their side that are willing to guide them. Even on this matter, teamwork is a must coming from the management, former players and other coaching staff.

I agree with Jimmy Alapag's saying that once PH took the World FIBA, they will still need the veteran guys and not just pure cadets on their roster.

“But if you talk about playing against the world-class teams, your Serbias, your Croatias, and your Argentinas, me, personally, you’ll need some professional guys there.” link

The better setup would be, those top 5 performers on cadets then the rest will be the professional ones. That will be a good combination.

Maybe the commissioner just wants to try these young players to the FIBA world and see if the Gilas could compete well. Actually, our main purpose here is just to be in the FIBA world, that is already our greatest achievement as we can never win against very talk American and European players. You can get the top players in the PBA but they don't have the same chemistry as the current roster, that would still be useless IMO.

The Philippines is not expected to win all the way, but beating a good team like SoKOR is already a great achievement as they have been beating us before. We send a team that is not even popular, not mature enough, or has a big experience in international games, but here we are now, we are winning and proving to the world the Basketball in the Philippines keeps improving.

Indeed, a win against South Korea is already a great achievement for these young fellows and they did not do it once but twice, that is not a fluke.

These cadets would have a difficult time if they face teams like Iran or Australia and I don't expect them to win against those teams I've mentioned but they are already deserving to be in the final roster with their performance against SoKor, though this is not possible as we all know that the final roster would have some veterans in it and possibly an NBA star in Jordan Clarkson.
I think that they have learned a lot from the previous roster, and have watched the tape, going to that game, still a young team but already, proving a lot that they can do it, Clarkson is still not clear I think, as he still needs approval from the jazz, but we still hope he can play under our flag, and bring glory to the Filipino people.

That would be a great addition, but of course it's necessary to still get that chemistry as it's possible the play would change and it will be more focus on Clarkson holding and shooting the ball most of the time, I hope we won't see that as what makes this Gilas line up now, is their good chemistry on the court.

They've got good acheievements so far, and moving to forward this cadets really lifting high our flag.

Jordan Clarkson if he got the clearance which is really very possible after that great performance from the last NBA regular to semi finals, he bring pride to our country and for sure playing under our flag is no longer hard for him. He proved he's worth can ask for some favor now.

Gilas still have a long way to go, so far so good as per the cadets performances as a team!

Agree and the Philippines should do everything to make it happen as we really need a player like him. In the final roster, I also expect some PBA veterans to play as their experience will help the young cores. PH also needs help from our naturalized players if ever we pass the qualifiers. We have lots of naturalized players standing almost at 7 footers.

Coach Tab also knows already how to rotate these players so blending it with the young cores shouldn't be a problem.

6th Man player of the year, his addition will surely boost every single players that will represent our country, we know he loves playing wearing the Jersey of our team, he loves being Pinoy. Adding him plus those  qualified PBA veterans, would give a much better chance for the entire Gilas to have some good run internationally.

No question with Coach Tab capabilities, we are seeing how he really manage to blend each players, he have a team and those who've got the privileges to play needs to adjust with the types of game coach Tab have.

Basketball: Gilas faces China in tune up for FIBA OQT

What do you think, will the Philippines beat China in this game?

Since this is just a tune-up game, they might not take it seriously, but we will see how the Philippines will play against one of the best teams in the FIBA Asia qualifiers.
