PBA: Magnolia gets Jerrick Balanza in trade with Converge as Hotshots make playoff push

Magnolia improved its guard rotation for the remainder of the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup with the arrival of Jerrick Balanza from Converge.

Converge's Jerrick Balanza will now don Magnolia’s colors as the team looks for a big boost after a rocky start to the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup.

The FiberXers shipped Balanza to the franchise in a move that was announced by the league on Thursday, April 11.

Converge, which has yet to come up with a win in six games, will receive the Hotshots' second round pick in next season’s draft.

Good trade since Converge is already done, they are still winless but Magnolia have some struggle so adding another big man in the name of Jerrick Balanza will probably help on their size. Though not so tall but he could use his size to score inside. Honestly, I'm not so familiar with him since his team are not popular but I'm sure he'll improve with Magnolia.

Why would people still watch if they know what team will win. It's too late for them, their action on giving tickets is good but it will not work anymore. Just imagine, you have to go through the long traffic just to get to the arena, although that's free but it's not fun to watch anymore. Me, I would just watch my TV since I'm subscribe to Pilipinas Live, so I can also watch anywhere online.

If they will not stop that farm team and monopoly inside, they will never improve.

I think they should be thinking of revamping the PBA by adding more teams, for sure the excitement will grow and people will start putting their interest back.

With sister teams competing there's always rumors that the game will be controlled, we can't remove that assumption as we keep seeing how the league is being practice, either SMC or MVP will win the title and those who are on lower ranks will continue to serve as farm teams, though they are trying to hype the league back giving those low ranks team an exposures showing that they can beat good teams, but I guess that's already late as the trust of most fans is no longer interested with how the games being played.

I'm waiting for MPBL to earn more advertisers and big companies trust, if that happened they will be able to pay big names from PBA and switch them to play with their respectives cities/provinces.

It will be a real competitions for PBA and for sure with how the fans embracing MPBL with additional talents the entertainment and excitement from each provinces and cities that they'll be heading will be jampack!

I thought SMB are gonna cover the spread but DYIP have keep their momentum, they just loss in the end because SMB are good in closing the game with a win. Anyway, moving forward to the 2nd game, I knew I should not trust the Magnolia here because currently Northport are leading the game. Though Magnolia needs to win but they have to play harded and make the right adjustment to beat the Northport.

NP is currently 4-1, on a 4 winning streak so they are so hot that Magnolia should not underestimate despite their bad record in the past.

Though it's still early but this is the same scenario we witness during their previous game. What happen to DYIP, they seemed to become a differnet team and now they are dominating the number 1 team in the PBA now.

45-54 (halftime score), DYIP is still leading.

So backing the weak teams that suddenly got better makes it easier for us to win. That's a great strategy, we have to wait and see, if the DYIP are playing well then we can go and bet on them by taking the handicap. For sure we can still find a high handicap since in the pre game, spread will likely be +10, so +5 to +8 is still good as long as they are playing to compete.

I believe that DYIP now is very confident as they recently beat the Ginebra which is one of the top teams, this young team are playing like they aren't losing anything so the chemistry are improving. I can't wait for this, hopefully our expectations are not wrong.

We are not sure yet, maybe this young team are gonna slay the SMB teams. It's not impossible my friend, they have been working hard to win because of their bad past seasons, now that they started winning, we are still underestimating them. If you believe they'll lose and you bet on SMB with the spread, good luck to you mate.

That was a close one, TNT just executed well in the 4th and does not allow the Meralco to beat them. It's the kind of game we like to see, a very close one as it makes us excited to watch, hopefully we will see more of that in the succeeding games. Meanwhile, we have DYIP vs Ginebra playing. Already in the 3rd now but DYIP is still leading the game, not sure if Ginebra could cover the spread if they will win, it was -9.5 before the game, so they need to have a strong run if they want to win by double digit.

It's only -2.5 live now, this looks like Ginebra won't be able to win here. Two losing streak is bad but they really miss Thompson who has turned himself a good point guard and a good defender as well. Normally, 4th quarter is where Ginebra loves to have a run, let's see if it's gonna happen. I'm happy by the way seeing Tenorio being healthy again and he is gaining good minutes in this game.

I'm just wondering, did Tenorio already won a best player of the game since his return ?

If you get tempted to take that -2.5 live, you'll regret your decision as Ginebra could not capitalize a comeback in the 4th. C. Stand didn't comeback anymore, I heard he was injured, so they struggle a lot on where they will be getting their points.

This is just too bad for Ginebra, they loss C. Stand, Pringle with limited minutes and Thompson still hasn't return, as a result a real struggle has been experience. Also the main gunner of the team struggle big time, Ahamnissi with 6 points only and Malonzo with 10, they can't win a game like that. If they will not improve next game, they'll experience 3 losses in a row.

It seems that TNT still leading after 2 quarters if they can hold this 2-digits lead and mantain the momentum they might win this game but like what you've said there's still enough time for Meralco to catch up and maybe possible to turn the tempo in their favor, let see if how these
game will ends up, I like to see competition even it's a sister team who are playing against each other.

Both teams needs every wins that they can take while still in the early season of the league, possible to catch for the 2nd round and manage to work things out to reach the finals.

It was a close game, either team could win because Meralco was able to mount a comeback, unfortunately they fell short in the end resulting to TNT winning by 2 points only. Meralco actually had a chance to win if that 3 point shot sink in, but it didn't so TNT is lucky to have a win after a very disappointing performance vs the Northport.

Meanwhile, we have DYIP vs Ginebra playing. Already in the 3rd now but DYIP is still leading the game, not sure if Ginebra could cover the spread if they will win, it was -9.5 before the game, so they need to have a strong run if they want to win by double digit.
