This looks like the same scenario as in the first game of Gilas. The score is 27-52, and that is just after the first half. This lead will likely increase more in the second half as Chinese Taipei is struggling to make a shot because of the great defense of Gilas. The ball movement is still present, almost a perfect execution every time, so there's really no one heavily carrying the ball as everyone is sharing it effectively.

Less dribble and more passing, that has been what is happening now, and I doubt that Chinese Taipei still has the capability to come back and make this a thrilling game. I would say advance congratulations to the Philippines already.

I just saw the betting odds for the game tonight between Gilas Pilipinas and Chinese Taipei. We thought -10 is high, but it's actually -24.5. Now, who has the courage to take that high spread? Personally, I have a little doubt about this, as it is the first time I saw the Philippines as a heavy favorite in the FIBA Asian Qualifier, and they are up against a decent team, albeit lower in ranking than the Philippines.

I might try to have some fun here; maybe I'll bet on the opposite team, as they have a very attractive x20 moneyline odds.

Maybe because people are been so hyped with past result on hongkong where they get 30 pts lead and take a win. But Chinese taipei is decent team so provably we cannot a see a same like situation on hongkong and I expect we can see a good match up here.

But for now not going to bet on either Philippines or Chinese taipei since I don't feel any excitement on this most likely we can see at the end of this sequence that Philippines would be the winner after the end of the match.

X20 money line odds though but I think for now I'm fine watching the game without placing any bets.

It would be nice if we have a head to head record for these two teams including their previous match ups so we can analyze if the line which is -23.5 now is overvalued. This is only the information I was able to search online, https://livescores.biz/basketball/h2h/chinese-taipei-19883-vs-philippines-7905

Better if we have, but unfortunately, there's no website yet that is as popular as those that record statistics in NBA games. So for now, we can just rely on what we remember about these two teams and do some further research. It may sound challenging, but it's never impossible to find information that would help us analyze the game we are betting on. At least, let's not bet blindly on this.

Based on that record, Philippines has been dominating this team but not all in a blowout win, so I think -23.5 is quite high for Gilas to cover although we've see how impressive they were as for sure no team will compete in this big league unprepared.

They look prepared, and the game is already ongoing. We are in the first quarter now, and just like the Philippines game vs Hong Kong, it's a close game.

It's not tomorrow yet but on Sunday.

Here's the schedule.

Quote
First Gilas game would be on February 22, 8 p.m., against Hong Kong, followed by the match against Chinese Taipei on February 25, 7:30 PM.

Technically since we are following local PH time here in this thread, it's now February 24th here.

Same here, I also didn't see yet some bookies listing the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers game between Gilas and Chinese-Taipei.

I suggest checking those local bookies within the GCASH app under GLIFE.

I just checked our local bookies, specifically Sportsplus, which is under GLIFE, but could not find that particular game. Both in the local listing and basketball in general, there are no betting odds yet. Well, this is for tomorrow since it's already 2:31 AM in the Philippines now, but let us not lose hope on this. Come back and check again an hour before the game.

You guys are too excited. Cheesy

Just wait for it and it'll be up soon. I was wondering if anybody here were able to be last game? I'm sure that was an easy win as Gilas had dominated the Hongkong by like 30 points (more or less). So if I guess it right, maybe the spread was just around -10 to -15 but sure it's not -20 or more.

Here, I would like to share my guess too, since Chinese Taipei has been a good rival for Gilas Pilipinas during the time of oach Chot (learning experience) then I guess the maximum would be -10. So are you willing to take that high spread?

If I have spare money I can personally take that spread, after witnessing the last game I can say that  Chinese Taipei will have a hard time stopping the system of coach Tim, the blending of players and the trust he's building among them brings additional inspiration in each gilas players. Though we can't conclude what might be the outcome but as personal take I can say that it's really a different squad in terms of team executions, it's no longer a learning stage but a pure competition that they all wanted to win.

Perhaps, we are the new kings in Asia after winning the title in the Asian Cup. We are now very competitive and can beat giant teams like China, as well as other strong teams like Japan and Korea. Regarding the betting odds, they are still not available at this time, and I could conclude that we won't be able to make a bet on this game. It's alright, I guess, as long as we can watch and enjoy it.

After this game, if they can win and achieve a 2-0 record in the qualifier, they can go back to their leagues, and maybe the PBA will also resume soon.

As seen in https://pba.ph/schedule,, the first game will start in February 28.

Maybe yes, as per checking there's no available odds and if that happened as long as we can watch and enjoy the game it's all good to me, with your statement, I do see good future for this new selected squad they are been selected based from their capabilities they are all a team player even CJ as we know him but he's showing big respect with how coach Tim calling for the play and he's recognizing the importance of good ball movement.

If they continue that kind of a team play, we can say that we do have a good edge in Asian Cup and that target to reach the Olympics is no longer that far to achieved.

We will find out tonight if they could take another dominating win, but for me, even if it's a close game, a win is still a win, and that is something I would be happy for our national team. We haven't seen them this good in the past; that was many years before Coach Chot finally gave up the job or TNT as well because it is now SMB that is taking care of the job, and the journey has been impressive so far.

and maybe the PBA will also resume soon.

I hope that is final as sometimes the schedule in their website is unreliable.

And this is backed by the news, https://pba.ph/news/season-48-phl-cup-opens-wednesday-nas-new-pba-venue

IN less than a week, PBA Season 48 hostilities resume with the kickoff of the Philippine Cup pitting Terrafirma versus Converge and NorthPort opposite NLEX at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo on Feb. 28.

It's the Philippine cup, or the All Filipino Cup (correct me if I'm wrong) which means no import is allowed, this is another exciting conference, expect a low scoring game on majority of the games.

With how the first game of Gilas turned out, it's not impossible to see that kind of spread. And your question, whether I'll take it even though it's high? Yes, of course. Bookies aren't fools to offer that kind of odds if Gilas is not capable of covering that. If you have doubts, just sit that one out, but for me, I love to gamble on spreads that are high like that.

They bring hype to the fans, and no matter what the point spread is, the Filipino fans are gonna take it. Well, there's no denying that they were dominant, they might surprise their opponents since they are a completely different team. You can see the passes, and they're not gonna force the shot. Instead, only those who are open can take the shot with confidence.

This was the kind of strategy that basketball enthusiasts have been suggesting before, but Coach Chot at that time was not into that style. Instead, he was more into ISO with his trusted players, and their 3 point shooting percentage wasn't so consistently high.

You can't blame us to be so excited because we've see how Gilas dominated on their first game and we can't miss the opportunity to bet. Just checked again on the sportsbook I'm using but still could not find any odds, again I'll be patiently waiting and hopefully by tomorrow it will all be out.

Have you guys read a rumor about Greg Slaughter signing with Ginebra again? I just saw a post on Facebook about this but could not confirm if that was really true, as there hasn't been an article online that gives more details about this. I was just thinking, if he will sign with Ginebra again, that would make this team a good contender in the All-Filipino Cup. JMF and Greg Slaughter are a good match, and every time they play against each other, it is always a very competitive match individually.

Maybe it's not a rumor but just a created story by the author to whom where you read it. PBA rumors, if somehow close to being true, especially involving famous players like Greg Slaughter, will be spread quickly and more famous sports analyst will share their thoughts about it. Greg is currently playing @ Japan B-League for 1 season and his basketball future is still unknown after he finished that contract.

I'm not even sure if Greg is performing well in his Japan B-league career. But for sure, against pure locals in PBA All-Filipino Cup, he's still a big wall that needed to be breached behind the rim. Ginebra though is playing small ball lineup in the past conferences.

He gained enough experience playing overseas; it's now time for him to come back and make Ginebra a championship team again. Even with the PBA, Greg isn't really a huge help in the offense, which was the reason why his contract before was uncertain. But probably Ginebra realizes that they don't have someone who can at least limit JMF, and that's why they are trying to consider getting Greg again. Although this is just a rumor, but as you mentioned, it's close to reality, so let's be optimistic about this.

If there's a possibility I'm pretty sure it's another rivalry of the south, we all knew that they are familiar with each other as they compete against each other during their early age, though JMF earned a huge success but Greg if only gained that same attention, too bad he's not become what's expected him to be as Gin kings got a lots of stars during his time.

I like the rivalry if ever, having Greg, CStan and Japeth together with Scottie and Jamie during the All-Filipino and with JBL in the reinforcement cup, I think the chances of winning another title might be on it's way.

Though we can only say that it will going to happen till its being announce, right now, either it's just a write-up to gain readers or there's something behind that's being cook by some forces inside PBA.

By the way, this Sunday we have another game and it will be held in the Philippines.

Yes, this will be this coming Sunday at the Philsports Arena. I'm sure the fans will come and support the new Gilas. After their dominating win versus Hong Kong, they are now oozing with confidence, and I have no doubt that they can beat Chinese Taipei, but not sure if it's still a blowout win for Gilas. At this current lineup, my confidence is very high because I saw how they move the ball to find an open shooter, but against a tougher opponent, we will see if their chemistry will still work out.

Trivia, this Philsports Arena has a maximum capacity of 10,000 according to wiki... Can the fans fill this arena?

To be honest, 10k is just a small numbers as we know how pinoy fans loves the sport, with the new mentor for sure more support will come and it can be cnverted to a ticket sales, if you watch the game last night and you have the money and the time to spare, I can say that you'll be going to wanting to see them in a live action, With JBL leading them the squad, trust has been developed and ball movement is something that we witness that really imporoves.

I like the rotations and the trust coach Tim gives to all his young guns, Tamayo, KQ and Kai are all being utilize whoever playing with them they are showing that they are willing to give whatever it takes.

Though just a single game can't define how good is this newly formed PH national team but I'm pretty sure if they continue to keep improving olympics is no longer that far.
