Osimhen begged according to the statements of his coach to be excluded from the national team in order not to participate in the next cup of Africa.

I saw this coming as their was rumors of his agents threatening to fine him if he leaves Italy for the AFCON and all of a sudden he's pleading to be left out and now announced to have COVID-19. Also Dennis from Watford has also opted out of the AFCON. This guys don't get it what it means to play for your country. They should learn from how top players like Salad and Mane are happy playing for their team. The club football is great but nothiygive the feelings of winning a trophy for your national team.

By the way, which group is considered the most interesting? I see that more or less interesting confrontations will take place in groups A and D.

It should be Group D as there's Nigeria and Egypt trying to top the group but all of a sudden the news coming from the Nigerian camp isn't encouraging and lets not forget they sacked their coach recently plus they'll be missing key players and this might affect their play.

as an African and as someone who has been following African soccer I can say that African soccer has no quality anymore, when I watch the games I get very angry with the poor quality of these games, players make mistakes that are very childish, there are few goals. this deficient system is linked to the corruption that exists in clubs in africa.

The poor performance you speak about is as a result of poor quality from the home grown players. This tournament combines the international players with local and that's a bad mixed as the international players tends to adapt to the style of the home grown players which then affect their play. Let not also forget this big player are coming form league with world class facilities and treatment. They definitely can't get such treatment over here and this is because of the poor investment from the football governing body of the continent.

If i didnt see that some of the big players are leaving the premier league and some big leagues to play this tournament i wouldnt even know that this tournament is being played. This tournament lacks a lot of quality and to me isnt intresting at all

Well that's your personal view as the AFCON isn't a small tournament, this is the biggest tournament in Africa and the football lovers all know about the tournament. It has been ongoing before the big players you speak about today leaving their respective clubs to come play. Infact this tournament is the birth of many African stars you hear of today as they get discovered from their participation.

in Africa, due to great corruption, the games dropped to a level. in the past when we had julius aghahowa, samuel eto, akoni kanu and we had a team that could compete with the europeans we were at a medium level, but today we are at a low level in terms of game quality, players have to pay or to be in the main team having agreements with the guys from the federations and very often the internal players who have quality don't play because they don't have the money to match the guy from the federation

I think this is out of this world and should be banned by FIFA.
Agree the period is not the best to play but it is unfair for the other teams who will send their players.

I wonder how he argued his reluctance. If he had good reasons, then I don't see why he should be subject to sanctions. But such events undoubtedly destroy the prestige of the competition, so it was not worth bringing these problems out to the public.

It's your own decision to make, to watch either on of them both.
The African Cup of Nations will be an interesting competition, every club will send down representative to monitor the situation of there various player's.
I still haven't taken a good pick on who to win the African Cup of Nations.

I don’t know if anyone here is a Bailly fan or no, but he’s possibly injured right before the start of this tournament, and it’s a coincidence but he got injured way back in 2019 too when he was selected for this tournament. Also another big star in the making Hannibal will be making his presence felt in this tournament, and for me he has every making of a big star so I’m hoping he gets the chance to shine out there.
It will have been very bad if Bailey misses this year AFCON. I watch Bailey video where he celebrated man u win and just said he is tired. He did not say anything about injury. So he is fine and will play the tournament.

We fan mostly our club players over here then our country team comes next. Hardly before you see we routing for another club players that aren't from our country. Example I don't care about Bailey playing or not which is why I wasn't aware of his situation but it seems he's alright and will be available for his country.

Bailey isn't a big player to influence his national team like the likes of Salah and Mane and others. Nice seeing some other nationality are interested in the AFCON. True new talent are discovered in this tournament. This is a chance to make the country proud and increase their value, can't wait to watch all top players bring the tournament to live with brilliant displays.

The Africa cup has more good players than people often realize. Just think of Mane from Liverpool playing for Senegal. It's a shame that a lot of good players play for different teams, otherwise you could make a really strong team. It used to be glorious times with Cameroon at the 1990 World Cup, which almost reached the semi-finals, and only lost to England very late. The Africa cup is underestimated by many people.

There are few good players in Africa. Though they have some star players.
For example, in Egypt, there is Mohammed Salah. Senegal has Mane and Algeria has Riyadh Maharaj. But the number of good star players in Africa is very low. The teams are not too strong either. that's why I didn't like their gameplay very much. And, for these reasons, not many people watch the African Cup. African teams need to be stronger.

It simply obvious you're a Manchester United fan@Juggy777.
I'm a fan likewise, I really do want to see all Manchester United players perform great during this African Cup of Nations.
I read the newspaper today and didn't get any news relating to Eric Bailey being injured.

I know Victor Oshime has been in the top form but is his league competitive that one can say it reaches the standards of the premier league. I haven't watched him play but I hear he's doing wonders.
Victor Osimen of Napoli is tested of Covid-19 ahead of 2021 AFCON.

What do you think about we starting a competition. It could be the closest or correct prediction of the games of the day. Maybe we can add scorers etc. What do you think. I believe this will drive up the engagement on thread. Youn can give your suggestions.
That is good. The competition should not be hard rule so that people can be willing to participate

Nigeria looking like second place owners in there group already, I know with Salah giving Egypt goals, they can defend very well.
Victor Oshime will be back for this, also Wilfried Ndidi.

Can they play together as a team very well against stronger sides like what we're seeing in the teams that qualifed. I know Victor Oshime has been in the top form but is his league competitive that one can say it reaches the standards of the premier league. I haven't watched him play but I hear he's doing wonders. Well I hope he delivers because as a Nigeria I would want the trophy to come home.

Senagal are also a strong side, people underate them but they can out perform most teams we're chosing as favorite. I'm thinking we should make this tournament more interesting. Apart from the fact that i am Nigerian, going through the list of players to look out for, i see more Nigerian names on the list than any other african country, so it means in general, the Nigerian team is one to watch out for.  I don't know how the appointment of a new coach for the Super eagles will affect the team, can't say...but i hope they get to the finals, else it will be a shame with so many name on the watch list and a not satisfactory performance in the AFCON.
