I guarantee 4.5W of power can heat up a cup of coffee. Hell, you could even get water to boil!  All that's needed is a little add-on gadget: a perfectly insulating tent. It's a box made of styrofoam, with IR-reflective coating on the inside. It's got inductively coupled connection for electrical power, and a wireless data passthrough. Open the box. Place your Jalapeno inside and hook it up. Place the cup on top. Close the lid and seal the box. Establish the connection and start mining.  After a week or so you will have mined 0.07 bitcoins, boiled a cup of water, and fried a jalapeno. Quite an accomplishment.

That is instead of the Black Body heatsink, right?

There is more to Bitcoin than bitcoins.

Isn't the jalepeno supposed to be hot to the touch? Hence the "coffee warmer" part.

It will never be able to warm a cup of coffee, unless you like your coffee room temperature.

It wasn't meant to warm a cup of coffee, but to keep it warm, but you are correct in your assessment.

But let's now examine this from another angle. Why go through all the trouble of building a unit that exerts as little heat as possible, yet market it as an item to place a 180o cup of coffee on, thus heating it up.

A coffee warmer is basically designed to keep a hot cup of coffee warm as long as possible, and not a heating device to warm/heat coffee starting at room temperature.

Therefore, from a marketing standpoint, I would have name it PepinoFrío.

If BFL wanted to make a splash, Apple style, they could invite ppl come queue up on Launch Day to pick up their orders in person.  They could invite the media, and give out BFL pens and shirts, give a keynote speech, maybe raffle off a product or two...

We can dream, right?

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

If they did that they would be up on corporate manslaughter charges as people would be dying of old age in the queue!

Wow they look very sleek! It's amazing there is no fan needed even considering the low power/high ghash usage.

The low power and "underclocked" nature of the jalepeno is why they don't need a fan. People are already trying to think of ways to sup it up and cool it. Smiley

I had a 16.4W FPGA miner board for a while (an X6500), and it sure needed a fan.  Without airflow the passive heatsinks would get too hot to touch in a few minutes.

The Jalapeno is supposed to draw 4.5W.
It's not hard to cool 4.5W passively, especially in an aluminum chassis. A thermal pad between the chip and the enclosure should be more than enough.

I would guess they are going to ship right around the last day or so of november so they can say they met the november date guideline.

Gonna be a slim chance of that happening....  https://forums.butterflylabs.com/showthread.php/251-More-Jalapeno-Pictures-amp-Shipping-Update

@squeept, +1.

Where is the milk for the cookies? Is it chocolate milk? Does it contain high fructose syrup or artificial colorings? I think I need a video of someone dipping their cookie in the milk to make sure that it's real...
