I've been reading through this forums for the past few weeks and all I see is "this coin is dead" or "everything is a shit coin". Is there any alt coin with potential to invest in or is it only bitcoin? I don't mean like a few here and there, I mean over 100 coins.

Of course youll get a lot of answers here but cant you see theyre just promoting coins that they already have. I strongly suggest that you may want to do your personal research regarding to that. Theres is not assurance in every coin that they suggest Im sure you knew that coz every coin has an unstable price. So if you want to invest on a particular coin I think you should research about the project and read some articles and their whitepaper. Then you can decide if you would continue or not. Good luck mate!

Look potential of the coin before buying any coin in the market. Without checking if you buy nonpotential coins then you will automatically lose all your money. So it is always good to research and how community is reacting and act according the prediction.

For me, I like the idea of coins that serve alternative uses, for example, Gridcoin, Foldcoin, Curecoin, etc, as well as coins offering anonimity, like Dash, Bytecoin, Monero, then POS coins that offer the holder the opportunity to earn interest.
I believe the hottest coin now is deeponion, I was really amaze with the system they are using because even if they give airdrop but it requires
people to buy at least 100 onions to be part of the airdrop, as of now the price has average to $3 per onion and it's growing.

I'm sitting, looking for altcoins for short. I read the news, watch the upcoming updates in different projects.

I can see that the growth in the price of the crypto currency, which expects some kind of update, has 3 phases:

1) The first growth, when the news of a significant event is only published (for example, an important update will take place in 2 months). The value of the asset starts to go up strongly. After a couple of days, the excitement falls, and the price goes down;
2) 3 weeks before this date, people in different calendars find information that this asset will soon have something interesting implemented, begin to actively enter. The cost grows, then in a few days again falls (somewhere half the price that was before this growth);
3) The last growth begins a few days before this date. The same story: the course begins to grow well, the law of some top and fall begins not after, but somewhere a day before the implementation.

Not everyone treats this, but I see this tendency. If you are going to enter some crypt, and you will see that its price has grown well in recent days and has not fallen much - it's better not to take risks and not to enter. Look at what recent news was published and what updates are coming from her, which is why the growth. If you see a significant event (for example, a month later), you better wait for the price to fall and then enter. If the cost has grown, on top and before the implementation of a couple of days, it is better not to enter, it will fall, and you will not have time to get out.

Only three more days before the release party for the new Waves client. Seems like a very good buy for quick profits.

For me, i would love to buy some worhtless altcoin at the moment,i am really determined of having some altcoins even to those coins that seems lifeless, because i trust that in the long run it will become useful and actively growing in the market, but all i need this momentis patience to wait a long time to awaken sleeping coins, and I trust my instinct that the dead coins will rise in the future too😊

for blockchains,
ETH, ETC, XEM, DASH, LTC, XZC, SYS and STRATS
for tokens,
CVC, KNC, AST, ZRX

spread bets on above should have good diversification for your portfolio.

XEM has just gone up more than 3x in a day.  Very rare to get 3x in a day for  a coin which is in top 10 coin marketcap!

Take a look at the general panorama in coinmarketcap, the altcoins being dumped are definitively not supported by a devoted community. But there are a few cases of altcoins thriving in this BTC bubble.

Out of those, check out the ones based on PoS because it might be the future of crypto creation.

Finally, look for the ones with masternodes as they will have huge portions of the available coins locked away.

At last, read the technical papers, get in touch with the community.

And you'll get to the inevitable conclusion; DMD is one of the best bets you can make.

One of my favorite altcoins right now is Oyster Pearl:
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/oyster-pearl/

Only $500,000 marketcap and I think it can easily do 10x.

For those interested, the thread can be found here:

Marketcap is only 27 millions usd. So, coin is extremely undervalued to my mind

Sonm (SNM) - fogging supercomputer - testnet will be launched on 25 DEC. Project has many interesting partnerships. Very active dev team and strong community support.
Blog link with news and announcements https://blog.sonm.io/

Listed on Binance.

Waiting Bittrex
Marketcap is 50M usd. So, project is undervalued too.

Renos (RNS) - community based cryptocurrency with masternodes. Interesting project with very little marketcap (only 1M usd).
Coin was launched without ICO by massive airdrop. There are two developers that are open to community.
Working on creating trading system that will be paid by Renos.
Whitepaper is here https://renoscoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Renos-Technical-Whitepaper.pdf
Twitter https://twitter.com/RenosCoin
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/renos/
Listed on Cryptopia.
https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Exchange?market=RNS_BTC
Trading volumes are little now, but devs working on listings on more huge exchanges.
There are some risks here, but I see nice profit possibilities here.

Not the essence - what to buy. It only plays a role when you do it. Buy on the bottoms and sell on the top - a profit.
this is very true, this is just a game if you are experts in the trade surely you will know when prices rise and fall then from that many traders have a high profit. buy a low price and sell at a high price it is so much fun

if you want to buy other coin and you have a hard time  identifying which coin is better, use coinmarketcap as a reference and check the  top 10 or top 5 coins and buy it for long term.
