As for your particular JPY trade, I believe you have a support request open for it, so let's talk through the ticket and work on a solution for you.

Thanks for the offer. I appreciate your quick reaction times.

Kraken reimbursed me 100% for the losses I encountered. Very quick, pragmatic, and customer friendly. Thumbs up!

For right now, we advise that you go to the withdrawal page page for a given fiat currency to see if you can withdraw it, rather than assuming you can withdraw it because you are allowed to trade it.

Wow, this is a strong statement! The comparison to an exchange with no withdraw option is a casino where you are not allowed to cash out winnings; or a restaurant where the food comes in a transparent but locked glass box allowing you to have a look but not a taste.

Since you do such a great job at kraken, it really did not come to my mind to check the withdrawal page before trading. It is the curse of your good reputation that I now blame you for my trouble, which was caused by the combination of kraken doing a bad job here and me having (blind) trust in kraken because of its awesome jobs all the time before.

It is my understanding that -- given kraken's ambition to nor only become world's leading exchange but also reshape the whole financial system -- it is necessary to iron out effects of mistakes kraken takes part in. In this case, I refer to an exchange of my JPY funds at market rate to a different currency. It would show that you care for your customers and take responsibility for your growth pains. It does not come at at any cost to you, since you have the banking relations.

ICFielder - I think we have miscommunicated, because my point was merely that, as our system currently works, it will allow you to trade in currencies that you can't withdraw and the best way to avoid this is to look at your withdrawal page before you trade. This is just a fact about how our site currently works - we recognize that it isn't ideal and are working on a solution to address it. It's perfectly natural to assume that you are able to withdraw a currency you are able to trade, so I didn't mean to suggest in any way that it was a poor assumption on your part (if you took me to be saying that).

It is all here: https://www.kraken.com/help/funds-api#withdraw-funds

You just need to write which asset you are withdrawing.

Hi Dargo,

A few hours ago I tried to make a SEPA withdrawal to my bank account but the transaction has the status on hold. Why would this happen? I am tier 3 and this really helds me back from what I was going to do with those EUR. I have already sent a ticket to support with the number 35625. Could you please look at it?

Thank you in advance,
Alex

The deposit has been released. The problem was that in your withdrawal account, you put your name in the order last name - first name - middle name. But you should put it in the order first name - middle name - last name. We check the name on the withdrawal against the name on the account and the withdraw is put on hold if it isn't a close enough match. Switching the order of the names can sometimes cause the withdrawal to be put on hold.

The same "no withdraw because not tier 3" problem appears when trying to withdraw JPY. But since I am tier 3, it certainly has nothing to do with this. It might be that Yen withdrawals are not possible to Germany via SWIFT at all?

Another problem when trying to withdraw GBP: my bank account is not listed, meaning I have to add a bank account. Trying to do this, it will not work because of "duplicate bank information".

edit: the GBP problem could be circumvented by giving a different name to the bank profile. Thanks to a quick support message! The JPY problem persits.

edit2: I was just told by the support that people outside of Japan are not able to withdraw JPY. Well, that sucks hard. And I am wondering why kraken allows such customers to trade this currency pair at all. I heavily suggest that kraken allows those customers to exchange their currecny at market rate to another currency of their choice and at the same time either ban trading these currency pairs for non-served customers or put a HUGE warning sign.

edit3: Just got an immediate support response that the issue of not being able to withdraw some currencies will be on the agenda of the next team meeting.

ICFielder - thanks for the feedback and updates! As we add more banking partnerships, the funding landscape on Kraken will start to get more complicated, because usually banks will have some restrictions in terms of the areas it can service (and unfortunately the restrictions can be changed by the bank at any time without much warning). As you suggest, we need a better way to communicate the limitations to our clients and we are working on this. For right now, we advise that you go to the withdrawal page page for a given fiat currency to see if you can withdraw it, rather than assuming you can withdraw it because you are allowed to trade it. But we need better messages even on the withdrawal pages because you obviously got an unclear message on the JPY withdrawal page. We plan to have more banking partnerships in Japan and we should have international JPY payments in the future. But for right now we can only support domestic JPY payments.

Might be mistaken, but I think Cryptonit also offers SEPA deposits/withdrawals at 0 fee. Not sure about German citizens though.
It is not very nice to hijack the thread with own affiliate links.

I have an EUR wire transfer stuck in "sending" for 17 hours now, it used to be sent in less than an hour.

Is this normal, or should i file a ticket?

Make a ticket so someone can take a closer look. You shouldn't be stuck "sending" for that long.

I just opened a ticket, hopefully it will be solved soon.

Thanks for your help!

Money received.

Thanks for your great support.
