Altcoin.Center in co-operation with F-Secure & OPAL hereby announce the availability of

F-Secure Safe anti-malware subscriptions using OPAL

Despite it's relatively young age, the crypto currency scene has already faced several malware based attacks.

False wallets with built-in coin- and password stealing trojans are a reality.

Users of all crypto currencies must have means to protect their valuables against theaves and forgeries.

As one of the first fruits of the ongoing co-operation between Altcoin.Center, F-Secure and OPAL, we are happy and proud to announce the availability of the F-Secure Safe anti-malware software using OPAL as a payment method.

congratulations Opal-Team and Altcoin.center

Thank you! =)

Hehe, well it's not the first time when the most ground-breaking stuff comes from those considered to be the scum of the earth. Grin

To clarify things up a bit regarding the F-Secure deal, here's some background information on how it came to be.

Back in the 90's when F-Secure was still DataFellows, both me and several of my friends were working for the company. I was merely a technical customer care specialist (and only for a short time - I was too much an entrepreneur to stay in one place;) but many of my friends had quite significant roles. It was during that short period of employment when I also became personally acquainted with Mr. Mikko Hyppönen, and the connection between us has prevailed over the years.

Mikko is a very clever guy with sharp vision and an open mind, and we've had discussions of a wide array of different ideas and possibilities - including crypto currencies. When I first asked him (last September) if F-Secure would be willing to start accepting Bitcoin, it turned out they had already given it some thought and were indeed interested in the idea but had not yet had the time/motivation to try it out.

Few months went by without much progress on this front, but when the hacked/trojaned OPAL wallet came around I wrote Mikko again and proposed a resales pilot. He forwarded me to the sales department equipped with his approval, and after some further discussions Altcoin.Center and F-Secure made a resale agreement. Although the deal is not limited to OPAL, it is OPAL that kicked this whole thing off and thus it's also OPAL that I chose to be the first and foremost currency for the pilot.

If things go well, i.e. if F-Secure can see that the crypto scene is worth investing in, it is quite possible that we'll see many new security-enhancing innovations coming out of this co-operation. Alongside with the resales program, I'm also negotiating with F-Secure about possibilities such as adding selected crypto wallets to DeepGuard's database of known applications.

I wish to emphasize that what you're seeing are just the very first steps, and that while F-Secure is definitely interested in crypto from many perspectives ranging from technical to financial, a full endorsement is yet to come. In order to make that happen, we need to be able to show them there is real business to be made in the scene - in other words: we need sales to me made.

The generous discount price of only 40 € (one year for three devices) is valid as long as the stock I received from F-Secure lasts. You can place an order according to the instructions at https://altcoin.center/safe/ right away, and there's also going to be a proper online store at the Opal web site very soon. Ten per cent of the sales will go directly to OPAL development.

The possibilities at hand are really quite a significant, and your support is needed to make the best out of it. If you need top notch security for your Windows, OS X or Android device, this is an excellent opportunity to get just that at a very decent price while supporting the pilot and thus the whole crypto scene.

I cannot believe how naive and dumb people can be. 800,000 Opals were stolen due to malicious software, and now unknown 'security software' links are being spammed on here. Absolute new level of garbage.

F-Secure, unknown ?

Smiley F-Secure was the antivirus i chose in 2000 in order to protect the first Windows computer i bought...
Because compared to Norton's, F-Secure could run and protect your computer without slowing it like a ZX81 (a turtle).

F-Secure became widely adopted: they developped some of the main antiviral technologies that the main Antivirii companies are using now.

15 years after, F-Secure is still here, lots of hope i saw isn't (Altavista, Netscape, Napster, Sygate, Amiga...)

Saying F-Secure is unknown in the computer world is like saying Caravaggio is unknown in painting...

You're an idiot.

I wish I was patient enough to write a more thought out response but I think those three words sum it up nicely really.

F-Secure have been around for years. Just read a little about the company:

Unknown?

The software downloads will take place from F-Secure's site directly.

If F-Secure is unknown to you, I suggest watching this:

It's only the news about the deal that are being distributed by "unknown" entities such as Altcoin.Center.

And if you dig even just a little into it, we're not exactly unknown either. Wink

To be completely honest, i've never heard of the security software. However, I think it's a huge step for both Opal community as well as the crypto world. Opal has gained another partner and the crypto world has gained a new adopter. This is great for everyone. Well done.

Some people asked me how big this is and what it means for opal.   This is huge!

F-Secure has a $300m marketcap, and is publicly traded.  Let that sink in.

Now, consider the fact that they don't accept any cryptocurrency, not even bitcoin, but opal, because that's who they trust.  Let that sink in.

Now consider they even sell discounted licenses to opal users, because that's who they support.  Let that sink in.

Next time someone calls opal a shitcoin, just remember the backing of a 300m dollar company is quite bigger than a silly FUDer.

That is great news man. Keep up the good work.

Hey, would anyone happen to have the infamous hacked/trojaned version of the OPAL wallet available?

I'd like to send it to F-Secure's lab for detailed examination.

Nope adding those nodes didn't work either but it's alright I'm quite fine without the wallet but thank you so much for trying your best to help me Smiley

I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out - and genuinely curious about why that is so.

It's good that you got your funds staking in the web wallet anyways!

I really appreciate the help mate but it still didn't work and the only reason I can think of is my .conf file supposed to be named Opal.conf or Opalcoin.conf?

Ok, well this is weird.

The correct name is Opalcoin.conf - unless I'm very badly mistaken, which does happen sometimes although rarely. Grin

So you're using Windows, right? And found the folder I was referring to earlier?

You could try adding the seed nodes by their IP addresses:

addnode=192.99.111.227
addnode=198.50.151.86
addnode=5.196.226.54
addnode=5.196.29.188

Does it have to have letters and numbers? because I just chose 123456 lol

123456 is very insecure - especially now that you've published it here. =P

It is important to use secure RPC password in order not to get your coins stolen.
