He might have a crappy computer that's why the wallet doesn't run.
Crappy or high end, a wallet for a currency you want many people to use should work normally on both and any in between. This wallet, even the latest version, still has many issues to solve.

I am not lucky with new version (v.8.0 wallet). it's stuck in little block more than 10 hours. using win 10x64.
Maybe one of devs can help you once will come online. You try close the wallet and run again? If yes is still on same block stuck?

?An update was given like 6 hrs ago! 8hrs as at the time update was given is the deadline for faucet operation! So in another 2 to 3hrs we should be able to use the faucet.

Very good news if open an offline shop that accept xrb as payment. Can also create a online shop that will accept xrb and ship products in all world?
