Just received my 2 Antminers, the last UPS "cheap declared" batch.

Both units have heavy smell of burnt electronics, fans and heatsink blades covered with dust.
One unit is ok, another one has some dead chips and doesn't hash at full speed.

Way to go Bitmain  Angry

Holy f**k, hope that is just an isolated case...
However, seems that the 24feb batch is having lot of customs and technical problems

So Bitmain declares the full value now?
How much?

Around $850-$900 people are reporting.

dont blame shipper for customs duty and tax

Well, turns out i have to pay 170,36€ PER miner with DHL.
UPS only asks me about 26€.

A total of +3000€ extra to pay, nice way to ROI.  Angry

Last order EVER directly trough bitmain, that's for sure.

What was the declared value on the invoice?

Mine showed up yesterday and is hashing away.  It looks like they changed brands on the fan - this new PWM fan has a 0 RPM mode and I thought the fan was bad when I hooked up the ANT and started configuring it.  Finally, the fan came on after ~2 minutes.  I then powered it off and let it cool down and it behaved the same way when I powered it up again cold.  It's been running all night and works fine.  My other ANTs have NMB PWM fans and they don't have a 0 RPM mode - they spin at power on at about 600 RPM and climb from there as the ANTs heat up so the new one gave me quite a scare for a couple minutes.

Interesting.  Mine is out for delivery now--I'll report back on the fan as soon as I get it spun up.

Cheers.

Update, sent Bitmain a PM on here (no reply to either of my emails) and they said this... (I hope they don't mind me quoting them)

"Declaring the true value is requested by the customs, otherwise miners will be stuck when importing, the customs is keeping an eye on Ants, they clearly know the miners' value."

Looks like this will be the standard from now on.

It depends on the country, for example in my country customs don't care at all about what inside the package, they just call me and ask what inside and "some computer hardware" is good enough answer for them.
So Bitmain why did you send the packages with the value declared even higher than the current real price without letting the customers know?

Same here. Actually I never even deal with customs directly. UPS and FedEx take care of it most of the time, I just get a bill in the mail a week or two later.

That surely must depend on the country in question . I've never had problems with customs here and would prefer the risk to paying over 25% of the declared value. Leave the choice to the customer please. The margins are thin as they are, the added robbery by customs is pushing it firmly into the no deal zone.
