Probably going to be impossible to re-glue any heatsinks that fall off.

No, i did that before on my B3 4.86, i made a thermal glue with AL2O3 from reading orginal elecolit MSDS. Wink
if you want to know how is that, i can provide pictures again
it tooks 4 days, 54 chip re pasting is very hard work. Cheesy

like that , this is my thermal paste 6 times higher thermal conductivity from bitmains black shitty epoxy. 3 times higher then B1 white epoxy.
and also i remove chip cover too.

I used a dot of superglue on two heatsinks on an earlier batch and not wanting to wait weeks on end to ship the hash boards back during Chinese holiday.. Still running strong at 700freq and no issues

What happened?

The owner of this website (bitmaintech.com) does not allow hotlinking to that resource (/bm_tech_admin_at_123/userfiles/image/MAC_00507.jpg).

Maybe you should have saved the pic!

Evil beware: We have waffles!
Um, anyone looked closely at the pic with fan removed? https://bitmaintech.com/bm_tech_admin_at_123/userfiles/image/MAC_00507.jpg Pretty crusty looking.  Huh
Looks rather 'well-tested' to me....

the S7 fan design is a "suck air" + "blow air" method, no?

which fan are they removing?

sucking or blowing one?

no punt intended  Grin

Looks like the blow/pull fan is removed to me.

But what can we say really. Has anyone actually tested a batch 8-16 Antminer S7 with a one fan?

I agree though that I wouldn't run mine with just one fan either.

Anybody brave enough to test this?  Cheesy

I tested one fan on my batch 8 which only took 1200W from wall but it was about 70C at 20C room with fan at full speed and I didn't have balls to run it that high temp.

Batch 16 April fool miner??

Batch 16 warranty:

"3. In some cases, the warranty will be void

 c. Burnt parts on hash boards or chips"

That is nothing new on batch 16.  They include " c. Burnt parts on hash boards or chips;" in other batches aswell on warranty.  It gives them the right to reject RMA if they think was pushed to far or in bad conditions is my guess on reasoning.

So nothing really new there.   The one fan is the new part.

yess this is not new.

How did you remove the original epoxy though? Looks like you can easily damage the chip if you apply too much force.

how difficult was it to remove the heatsinks ? might use custom waterblock with chilled water running thru the blocks. heh.

Finally i removed heatsinks from my B2 4.66 575Mhz S7 nonworking hashboard,
i will clean up soon but i seen very very strange thing on this board.
2 chip pins(14-15) (28-29) are soldered to PLL GND.
this pins are NRST_A and RST_N RF and Test pin.  Huh Huh Huh

-this chips always reset on TEST mode , that means disabled...
-Why 2 chips are disabled on 4.66 S7 ??
-how can cgminer see this chips like that "o" OK not "x" or "-" when these are disabled ??
-i check routing for pcb production problem but other chips not wired to gnd..

(white paint is boron nitride for dust and thermal conductivity forcer and also use for shortcircuit protection from heatsink contact)
so, any ideas ? (i think i found a HCN "hash counter" stopper for dead chips) Big MAYBE Smiley

Mine for a Bit
The picture just shows the suck.

Haha - The picture and the website say it is the same fan (Cooling: 1x 12038 fan-same as Batch 15) which should ~ 182CFM @ 4800RPM, but the firmware says 6000 which would be considerably more and hopefully less wattage.

they want to BLOW & don't want to SUCK ! heh

depends how u look at it though, blow to chips but it can be sucking cold air in too but blow the hot air out

that many chips with 1 fan??? they're mad.
even with 2 fans - the amount of heat pushed out is quite substantial.
obvious that they are cutting corners now

S7-20160316-700M-1 fan-6000.tar.gz thats the latest FW ...

6000 means 6k rpm fan Huh hmm afaik max prolly 5k rpm for fan of that size.

normal s7's (earlier batches) will not run if it only detects 1 fan, but have seen EXCEEDING 880deg C & causing miners to auto shutdown.

me thinks mid 70 deg C is still "ok" but exceeding 80C is a little too high.

afaik, chips are rated up to 125 deg C. thats only the chips but other components ? hmmm

most electronic components can take up to 880 C but if more, i smell trouble.

thoughts ?

I think leads to problems as you have only one fan working.... no backup.  So if there is a failure it's going to get hot.... and you are counting on it detecting it and turning off. The thought of a S7 with no fans running scares me personally.

I would only run 1 if temporary and had another fan on the way, also I would be watching heat like a hawk.   I think 1 fan sounds like a bad idea.
