Addicts are everywhere, we're the ones that would be able to tell ourselves the truth, nothing else. We know what we're signing for, and we hope it results in massive profits that would surpassed the loss. Successful gamblers already know the disciplinary measures to follow in the space, they're nothing compared to newbies but professionals, basically have a full knowledge of the gambling system. They make and estimate calculated risks within time, they're running in massive profits. More often, they do record some losses but with budgeted comeback winning to the system.

That's the thing, people hope to get a good result, while ignoring the math behind it.

At the end of the day, most gamblers just do it on a hunch, on feeling, rather than just simply calculating the math behind it, because the return is negative.

And also they cannot do the math because they don't have any records with them. They aren't even aware what are their risk reward is. They don't know when they usually lose, they don't know what is their edge to which they win more often.

Because in gambling if you wanted to be a winner, you gotta to what professionals do and not what addictive gambling do.

For me, being successful is different from being an addict.
Because the successful ones, I think they really put in the time, patience and effort for it and they really know how to control the finances and themselves, they are just too good and professional because they must have studied how to play it so that the money they invest is not wasted.

We know that gambling is not a job because it is too risky but some people make it a job and sometimes even take out loans just to have gambling and there are also those who spend the family's money just to have gambling and that is what I can call an addict, the one who doesn't have self control.

I wish I could have posted this in a more better place but since the thoughts came from gambling addiction, I thought it wise to ask this question over here and I hope we can discuss and get this straight.

Just as the tittle already ask, I really want to know if people who are successful in gambling also seen as addicts because I believe  for one to be successful in gambling or whatever they choose to do, there must be some good amount  of time and effort invested in it as well as money and we know that a successful  gambler must have invested  both time, effort and even money to make any reasonable  winning  and these also are features of an addict as there are always excessive time spent on a betting site.

Now let's be sincere, will you also classify a successful gambler as an addict?

We have different perspective in life cause in my opinion I can say that there's a successful gamblers Yes they can won a good amount of money or let say they will won successively but I cannot say that they are successful in gambling cause there's no gambler has been successfull betting everyday maybe there's a gambler who bet on lottery and hit the jackpot then he became a millionaire or even billionaire but still it can't be called successful cause he won because of his luck without his luck he can not win.

Well that's true, but here I'll add a little bit more to what a successful gambler is. I think that successful gamblers are those who are able to control themselves with some restrictions that they have set up in each of their gambling, this is the right statement. And it's also true that I don't even think that there are people who think that successful gamblers are those who always win there, obviously that's wrong. How can they get consistent results just by relying on luck alone? I'm sure you also disagree with this. Well true, they may win but don't think that it will always come to you. Basically and in accordance with the fact of gambling that someone will be able to get one win with e.g. ten tries, and of course that means more losses than wins.
Casinos have it all figured out, and actually the ones who get the most for it are the casinos themselves, but we as gamblers don't seem to realize that.

We can define a successful gambler in many ways and different definition, But I will share my own opinion on this as an occasional gambler.  Successful gambler for me is not just because winning all the time it’s all about how you control gambling and how you think about it, if you know it’s only a way of having some fun and not going so far and spending all your day gambling and trying to win then everything is good and doesn’t really matter if you win that much as long as you don’t waste and spend your hard earned money gambling and getting yourself into bad financial situations.
When someone start gambling at the beginning and get lucky winning then doesn’t stop thinking he will be always winning or think himself so lucky in that game, that where the biggest issue starts and develop an addiction and once he lose some money thinking that he will surely get back home rich he will blindly spend his money for more sessions until he empty his pocket and stay always on that mindset of getting rich one day and any good money he gets from work or loans he start spending them in gambling. Just like any addiction that it’s goal is reaching the same dopamine dose and adrenaline rush while gambling, In fact it’s not at all about winning or losing as long as there is that feeling of euphoria while gambling and risking.
So definitely i will say that successful gamblers are the ones that understand gambling and take it only as a fun game. While addicted gamblers they don’t really care if they win or lose.

And I would say that successful gamblers are those who can control themselves in every gamble, whatever conditions they experience there, win or lose, the limits are always there for them. This is because they already have full screen time as a gambler so they already understand the various conditions there and if they go against that limit then their losses will increase. I'm not saying successful gamblers are gamblers who always make money, obviously that's not possible, because no one can get consistent results just based on luck. That's right, nowadays as we see many of them (gamblers) ignore this calculation, even though they really need it and it's the only way to minimize losses. But I agree with you, basically gambling should be done with feelings and hunches, not with various unclear strategies because it will only waste time.
And also because it is only luck that will bring the results of winning or losing.

I'm going to ask a little bit first about, what is meant by successful gamblers? Do they get a lot of winnings continuously and have a lot of money from gambling? or are they those who manage to control themselves when playing? But honestly I disagree with my first statement, and my assumption is the same as yours that in gambling the meaning of success is in other words those who are able to fully control themselves with some restrictions that they have planned beforehand and they can do it without any obstacles, but referring to the first statement I disagree with successful gamblers are those who manage to get a lot of money, it doesn't make sense if it only relies on luck. And that means successful gamblers are those who are not addicted. All the process of getting into addiction is the same, like you said it starts from a win mostly, they manage to get a win but never feel satisfied and they think this is an opportunity to make a lot of money, without realizing that this is a temptation for them to get stuck there longer. It's hard to get out of addiction because everyone has lust and greed especially about money.
A successful gambler is a gambler who can have good self-control, and can manage his time and money to gamble so he won't experience as many losses as other gamblers. Besides, he wasn't trying to chase victory but with his analytical skills, he was trying to be able to win. And even if he couldn't win, he didn't try to recover from his losses either. Of course, successful gamblers have advantages over other gamblers and will probably have more opportunities to make money from gambling.

These successful gamblers don't experience gambling addiction because they can manage everything well and use gambling well. They can overcome the temptation of gambling while other gamblers will find it difficult to do so. So we, who are just ordinary gamblers, must learn to control ourselves so we don't get addicted to gambling.

The definition of success is very diverse, especially if we relate it to gambling. roughly, what are the criteria for a successful gambler. even to be honest, I find it difficult to interpret. IMO, as for what leads to the keyword "success" from gambling, in other words they are someone professional. professional gamblers, have been equipped with a variety of knowledge, insight, experience and also self-control.

however, it is inevitable that they can also experience great losses. there are even some of them who become gambling addicts, there are also those who see it as a job. the point is, they already understand what they have to do when carrying out the gambling session. they have more strong control, they also have a high understanding of self-control. in the gambling phase it seems to lead to defeat, ideally someone who is a professional will stop the game. well, referring to the theme of the title of this thread, the point is that we cannot generalize that successful gamblers can be seen as gambling addicts. and IMO, it all comes back to their respective gamblers.
Yes, maybe more precisely we can say the keyword "success" is the same as professional. Professional gamblers are different from most gamblers, like us, who only play gambling just for fun and not trying to chase victory. We know that becoming a professional gambler requires a lot of things not only self-control but other factors that we have to learn too. And for this reason, not many gamblers can become professional gamblers because there is so much to learn.

Everyone can experience loss, including professional gamblers. But the difference is professional gamblers don't try to recover their losses, especially if they know that with the current situation, it's difficult for them to do so. They may prefer to stop gambling and return after a few days because circumstances have changed and the possibility of winning is very difficult. Professional gamblers know the situation so well that they can think straight even if they have lost before. But indeed, those of us who have probably never seen a professional gambler can only imagine what it will be like and what abilities it has. But he can also still get addicted to gambling if he slowly loses self-control.

It all depends on how you understand the term gambling addiction because in one case it may be a gambler who likes to play Friday night poker. He is aware of what he is doing and knows in advance that he will either win or lose. He knows how to limit his bankroll. Such a person is attracted to gambling and he believes that since he is not willing to give up gambling, he has a gambling addiction. Of course, the degree of his dependence will be much lower than the gambling addiction of a man who runs straight to the casino as soon as he has money in his pocket.

A successful gambler, in my view, effectively manages their funds, remains composed under pressure, and avoids increasing their bets to recoup losses. Those who neglect proper financial management often display addictive behaviors and typically achieve less success.
That's right, to gain success you don't just need to be successful at every attempt that you make, but you also need to reduce the failures of your actions. So if a gambler can manage to reduce their losses and avoid facing excessive losses, they can eventually be considered successful gamblers because they might win sometimes when they are lucky, and when they understand that they are constantly losing, they simply stop right there without getting angry or emotional.

An addicted gambler will not have the ability to manage their money effectively and they won't even have self-control so they can stop when they are constantly losing or even if they have won something significant because they will keep thinking that they might win more at any moment.

Well, your first analogy is completely different from what gambling addiction is, the love to participate in something does not mean someone is necessary addicted to it, that I naturally love gambling does not mean I am addicted to gambling, gambling addiction is completely different from all these.

Gambling addiction is like what you said in the second part of your comment where you said a man runs straight to the casino once he has money in his pocket, this is part of addiction and to add to that, I would also say that addiction is like an urge that when it comes, the person is completely disorganized, restless until he or she goes into gambling, a chronic gambling addict cannot stay a day without gambling, even if he or she has no money, he or she will look for whatever means available to get money to gamble, even if it means stealing, this is the true meaning of gambling addiction.

A successful gambler clearly has better self-control than other gamblers, where they can play gambling calmly and not just chase victory. And I also agree that successful gamblers are not gambling addicts because of their advantages in playing gambling. They can think about when to leave the casino, especially before losing a lot. Meanwhile, this is different from us who are still provoked to keep playing even though we have experienced many losses. And we also don't see that by experiencing that many losses, we should have been able to decide to stop gambling first but there are still many who continue to play gambling instead. And that's what makes us even become gambling addict, and instead of getting success from gambling, we even lose more money and can't recover the loss.

To be somewhat that addicted then yes, but in a controlled manner because not all would really be able to reach out such state on making themselves considered to be that successful if they arent really that good when it comes to gambling. Yes, they are addicted but in a controlled manner because once you do able to reach out this state then you had already overcome that kind of possible addiction and being that emotionally impulsive on which this is the common behavior of most addicts but for those who had able to reach out this state then they had already overcome and able to control themselves. Once you are on the situation where you are already considered professional or sustainable gambler then you do have that mind control and emotion handling which everyone is really that failing on doing so. This is why i cant really say that being successful gambler
could be considered to be addicted, they might be addicted on some point but they do know on how to handle up things along the way and this is the edge comparing into those typical gamblers that we do see.

Of course, it becomes addictive to gamblers when they get constant profits. I have a friend who is very much addicted to betting site because of which he bets daily and a few days ago he sold his bike just because of gambling addiction. There are many rich people who have taken up gambling as a profession. Actually this is their freedom based activity so they have found a way to earn money without working hard. Gambling makes you rich and it takes no time to become poor so the risk is high in this game.

This always comes down to money. If we are talking about poker players maybe they have a chance, but if we are talking about casino games then there is no chance that you will win because of the house edge.

So, the bottom line becomes "are you making a living out of this and making a profit overall?" if the answer is yes then we could say that they could be addicted but also since it's their profession then they may not even enjoy it, it could just feel like a job for them and maybe they rather not even do it, but they still do because they need the money. I have met with a guy who was a professional poker player and he was like that, he wagered online on poker rooms everyday for hours and that wasn't fun for him, it was a job.

they are successful for reason though, to put it simply, the fact that they are successful because they are having self control and good strategy otherwise they'd just outright went bankrupt.
I think they are not addicts, instead they are strategic people that always thinks with logic thats the main reason why they are winning in the first place.
but we don't really know right? they could be very well winning simply because they are lucky too.
Self control and discipline is what make the difference. You can be a successful gambler and still be an addictive one because it all depends on the way we utilize it and from what angle we are seeing it.

I disagree though. What we would consider to be a "successful gambler" cannot be a person addicted to gambling at the same time, because the success would imply to have self-control and planing on money, which is something a person addicted to gambling cannot do easily.

For example, someone who is successful at gambling would imply they manage to keep a positive net gain in relation to their losses, regardless of their total amount wagered and when we think of someone who is addicted we imagine someone who is going through such crisis which could let them to sell their goods, to have family problems, even lose their job.

For that reason I do not believe a successful gambler can be addicted to gambling.

Self control and discipline is what make the difference. You can be a successful gambler and still be an addictive one because it all depends on the way we utilize it and from what angle we are seeing it. Gambling is something we need to understand and what it take someone to be a successful one. When we have become a professional with results, we can be called a successful gambler either an addictive one or just a discipline one. When we want to make profits by all means as a gambler, we might be tempted to do the wrong thing becoming an addict.

At the end of the day the odds are against you, and being self controlled and disciplined won't make a difference.

It's all just probabilities in the end. You might have one person that hits the jackpot at their first try, while another diligent one never wins it.

Self control and discipline wont make a difference in the result/outcome (win/lose) indeed but it will make a big difference for our whole gambling journey. Without self control and discipline, you might be down badly and affect your whole life emotionally and financially. This is for me what is called by "successful gambler", gamblers who can play gambling as they wish and it does not affect their life negatively because they have self control and discipline in managing their money and time for gambling.
Around 80% gamblers  haven’t self-control that's why Most gamblers seem to suffer. Gamblers get greedy very quickly and on the other hand gambling sites advertise themselves and show attractive offers which make gamblers auto greedy.  And those who can control themselves and gamble with a cool head and deep thinking are the ones who succeed most of the time. And stupid gamblers are preoccupied with emotions and repeatedly lose gambling but cannot quit gambling.

Successful gamblers are never addicted to gambling.  Because those who are addicted to gambling deviate from their normal thinking and greed works in them due to which they cannot gain anything good from gambling.  On the other hand they suffer a lot from gambling.  However, those who are successful gamblers do not gamble for a long time but think a lot and do a lot of research and then invest in gambling. Don't panic while gambling but gamble with a cool head. And finally they succeed. they are the real gainers

Obviously, that kind of person is already drowned in this bad habit and only when he finally realizes he is doing it wrong he can stop to play or someone whom he takes as a real adviser will tell him to stop or else he just won't stop until it's finally the end of the game where he loses everything and doesn't have any money to play anymore. before this happen to anyone they need to consider doubling their intentions so that they can pure themselves from any of these critical way of thinking because if they don't evaluate and ponder upon themselves, most likely they gonna just simply ruin their lives if they don't know what are the risks of this action.

That is if they can still realize that they are already in a deep trouble or have already dug themselves a grave because in most cases, these addicted gamblers can only be helped if someone will help them as none of them realized that they are already addicted. From their perspective, it's like a regular day for them and chasing wins while also having losses but they don't know that they are already in a loop that has been going on for months and years and might've already caused some troubles that affects their own family.
