I did it many times back when my addiction is very high, I promise not to gamble after I lose a big amount I even swear that I will not, but the following day I'm back even promising to be better and not lose a big amount again.

How many of us are guilty of this?

I actually call this as the "cycle of gambling" where regardless of the result on your gambling, a person would most likely gamble again to check his luck for the day.

In order to combat this kind of cycle, there must be some sort of "stopper" where you decide not to gamble. For example, if you bring enough cash for today, then you are forced to stopped gambling after you exhausted all these resources. Of course, this may not be applicable to online gambling as your funds are always at your disposal, but practicing self-discipline can go a long way in this field.

I also have experienced this cycle when I used to gamble back in the days. I used to tell myself that I will stop, but I kept on hanging into this false hope where I may win if betted again. Of course, the result is always obvious- I lost way more than I profited.

I feel guilty but not that big because I still and will continue to try not to lose too much. I knew I still had to learn self-control to prevent myself from losing a lot of money.

And I'm lucky that I've reduced the amount of money I use to gamble, so I don't feel guilty about spending that money to gamble. You should start learning better self-control to prevent losing large amounts of money. That's good for you because you can control your emotions.

Actually mate we can not we or I can't deny myself to this even though I am a small time gambler but I encounter this kind of decision. Even though I already promise myself that I will not gamble anymore it because I loss enough amount. But when my greediness take over on me then I still gamble but anyways after I do that then I disciplined myself that will do my best to have a mindset that  not too much in gamble.

Addiction to gambling doesn't occur just immediately it's a gradual habit or culture nurtured and in few instances the victim doesn't actually realize or take a notice of these addictive attitudes, thence it is necessary to startup gambling with a laid down principles for yourself that could restraint you from every tendencies of addiction. When a gambler has fallen into addiction then whatever decision he takes of not going back to gamble is nothing but a flimsy statement spoken out of self-patronage.

That is a clear sign of gambling addiction which I have never been a victim of.

There are other activities that I might fail to keep such promises that include playing video games (not anymore though) but when it comes to gambling I have always try to discipline myself so I don't end up making a terrific decision that will ruin my life, I have heard the disaster that occured due to gambling addiction during my early days and from then I vowed to always be conscious of the things I do.

You are not alone. I was very aggressive in gambling before that even if I promised myself to take a break from gambling to reduce my losses, but I still find myself gambling again the following day. Of course, the guilt is there but what can I do, I find it hard to control my urge and just gamble again and eventually lose my capital. However, now that I’ve been a long time gambler, I learned to discipline myself and control the urge whenever I feel like gambling. That’s the best key so that we won’t be regretting everytime we end up gambling at a loss.

I am, and it's bad ! But now I can control it, you have to control yourself too. Because to be honest, I was ever in a position of addiction like that, everything looked bad, and in that situation I was aiming for the winnings from the previous losses, I mean chasing after what I had lost. But the results don't end well, because the emotions involved make us play blindly.
Try to remember how many times break your promise ? I'm sure you can't count them, because I've also been in that addiction, but hopefully you can control it Sir.

I used to be like this when I first started my gambling journey. I would always break my promise to stop gambling or even just resist the urge the following day. When I lost most of my funds, that's when I started to exercise self-control and discovered that we can't discipline ourselves if we have too high of expectations for gambling. I'm constantly eager and working so hard to achieve my target objective despite risks hoping that I could get lucky but when I started controlling my emotions and tried my best to resist from gambling temptations, it became my habit and I started playing gambling occasionally and just considered it as a source of entertainment and not a passive income.
It will be hard in the beginning but with perseverance and willingness, we can get rid of guilt and we can't also control ourselves. It only needs determination and self discipline.

It's no wonder that we break promises more and more not to play but that curiosity comes the next day at the end of playing again, I've had times like this where I wanted to return to the previous defeat.

We must be able to control ourselves from emotions and greed because if this is not taken care of it is possible that we will make the same mistake because there is no discipline that we use in gambling, whereas if everything is just because of this emotion there will be no end, we will definitely lose bigger because hot passion.

I agree with @Oshosondy that greed and emotion must be fully controlled, this is the most important thing in gambling to be even wiser.

The first key in everything in life is to know your limit and set a standard for yourself, this is very important to do at each stage of the way, and since gambling is a highly addictive venture you need to be very careful and disciplined to be able to survive or escape addictions, it may be very hard to do but with constant practice of the terms of self-exclusion because that is the best form of practice to save your ass from diving into addictions constantly.

Well before now, I was a regular on saying thing like this especially when I have inquired a particular huge loss during my gambling hours. I would just be frustrated and swear that I won't gamble again and although that particular period of time I always told myself  that it wasn't an addiction problem which is obviously a big lie I told myself because I would repeat same thing over and over again. But am glad today that I learnt how to stop this rubbish as I now have a gambling budget for the week and if exhausted that means it over for that week.

On this matter I try to be a sober gambler aiming responsability over instant pleasure, and so far I have no issues in acting as planned. Of course the temptation is really strong. It's hard to be stronger than the inner voice telling you to go on and risk some money to recover that sum you lost days ago, as it seems perfect feasible on theory, especially because that is what you most desire on the currently moment, but you have to ignore it or argue with yourself to not break a promise or plan you have already sealed.

I believe in situations like this to be an insecure person can help you to not get engaged in problems, since insecure people have aversion to take risks.

Being unable to control yourself and your gambling is the first sign of gambling addiction which is lack of self control. This behaviour is not peculiar to only gambling but all forms of addiction. The more you try and fail to stop, the more forced you are to accept your addiction and lack of self control and your new normal, a habit that you cannot break free from.

If you already are struggling to keep yourself under control and your gambling habit, but it is proving difficult and out of your hands, you can seek professional help.

I don't remember any such days in my life because I try to keep the promises at any moment if I made that and it's good to have cause which defines our characters to the society as well as for ourselves. But since you mentioned that when you did that you're under addiction so now you're over it which is a great achievement and this is hard to achieve by everyone who are in the same phase.

Here is a trick, you can opt the self exclusion feature provided by the casino which prohibits from you from accessing their service for certain period of time but this only works if you're not switching from one to another meanwhile.

I’m guilty on this before when I newly discovered online gambling. It’s very addictive that I even woke up on the middle of my sleep just play few bets that turns into long game because I can’t stop myself.

I manage to counter this gambling problem of mine through limiting the funds I can access. I deposit my crypto now on a hardware wallet while I don’t have any computer to access it. This way, I can only play when I’m home. I have a job which requires me to stay in our company during weekdays. I don’t gamble during that time and only play during weekends when I’m at home.

It’s very hard to stop gambling if you have an easy access to your funds while you are enjoying all the gambling games.

I'm sure everyone is like this, because human nature is forgetful which makes them break their own promises to gamble, but this is not only for us as heavy addicts, but sometimes for gamblers who have fun sometimes it's like that when you want to stop but come back to play again Gambling is for fun and not for multiplying money.

But this is a normal thing to break and feel guilty for breaking promises to yourself and even to your family too, but as long as gambling is for fun there is no problem in my opinion why should you stop as long as everything is limited both from spending money to gamble as well as limiting when to play and stop, everything will be fine  Cheesy

Not to gamble for specific days? I'm actually more successful in fulfilling that promise compared to saying I'm not going to drink anymore after a bad hangover hehe. I guess I'm already at the point where I can manage to control the urge or have some other avenues to keep my mind off gambling.

Well buddy, if only other people will just say the truth as you did then we will find out that its not only you that have walk down this road because as far as I know it, gambling has a very strong spirit and only if you are discipline enough can you be able to stop this reoccurrence of  quitting and resuming the next day.

I had a similar topic like this once which say NOT QUITTING ONLY TAKING A BREAK as I believed most gamblers who claim to have stopped the act only took a break on it for a little while.

Most of us for sure experienced such instance. We will always have a tendency to swear and avoid gambling probably due to losses, but will end up playing the next day. One reason is boredom especially if gambling is a part of your daily routine; you're used up to it. Another is frustration for your losses and it pushes you to get back with it. Last I guess is to enjoy things more; perhaps in sportsbetting wherein it is more thrilling to watch a game if you have bet in it. As long as you still function normally on a daily basis and if you are not struggling financially, I think you are managing things well as a gambler.

If you are a good gambler, you need to discipline yourself. Discipline is very important for you not to lose more than you are expecting. This has happened to me in gambling before, but it is just an addiction which you have known and need to stop doing.

In life, do away with greed, learn how to control your emotion and completely discipline yourself.
