Welp! Me too. I've once become an addict and this is a very common scenario to me. It turns to the point that I myself don't even believe in my own words. Being addicted to something really makes us lose our self control. I remember that I lost multiple times because of just promising myself to stop playing but I still keep playing until I lose so much money. I believe that having weak self control will head you towards being an addict. I'm just amazed on how much I evolved from being no self control to having a pure control of my gambling status right now.
This is how addiction kicks in when you don't know how to overcome the feelings during gambling. Greed and fear make us emotional and all emotional decisions can lead to the bad endings sooner or later. Being addicted hurts but no one is guaranteed to control himself when the loss becomes too big to handle. Controlling your emotions shouldn't be hard if you know what you are doing, IMO. I suggest using specific gambling block software to avoid excessive gambling in the future. Using old phones with number keypads may help as well to avoid entering casino websites.
That last recommendation is in fact a very good one, one of the problems today is that we have almost everything that we may want at the tips of our fingers thanks to the use of our smartphones, and this means that someone which may have an addiction problem may use their smartphones to get what they want, however if instead you use a dumb phone then the chances that you will gamble in excess drops considerably, as you will not have the opportunity to do this as you go through a moment of weakness.

It is not easy to make a promise thinking things might be easy for us to fulfill the promise but seeing ourselves giong back not doing anything can be as a result of circumstances.

Most times, because of the love we have for our loved ones, any time they caution us about something they think is bad, definitely because we love them, we tend to stop that thing or limit ourselves to doing that same thing, but most times it's not just very easy to agree not to do something that you are very used to and cool with. We can try our best to stop it, but it's never possible to just stop it at once; rather, it's usually a gradual process until you finally leave the habit. So, I think if we make promises to stop something, those whom we make those promises to should also understand that stopping a particular habit doesn't just happen with a blink of an eye. Normally, it takes a little time; that's what makes us human. I take the example of my grandpa; according to him, he started smoking when he was 20 years old. Up until now that he's old, he got so sick one day, and when we took him to the hospital, the doctor asked that he stop smoking and taking alcohol. I know he did not just stop it instantly; most times he was hiding to smoke, just for us not to be find out, but one day I caught him, and he felt so disappointed. I spoke with him and told him I know it's not very easy to stop this, but he should just try his best to stop, and he told me that he smoked more than 10 sticks of cigarettes before, but now he is going on with just one per day, and he will fully stop. Currently, he has finally stopped. So, what am I trying to say? When you pressure people to stop something, you do them no good, but they will find a way to do that thing without your knowledge. But when you show them love and talk with them alone, they will find reasons to gradually stop what they are doing.

Your perspective on behavioral metamorphosis veers from scientific notions of habit creation and busting. Behavior alteration isn't a straight path; it's a cycle involving thought, readiness, action, and persistence phases. Your point about change needing patience is spot-on, but ruling out pressure as counterproductive seems too rigid. In some instances, a nudge could spur change. Key is, this nudge shouldn't feel like bullying and must blend understanding, empathy, and insightful feedback.

Expounding, your grandfather's tale signifies triumphant change but highlights the perils of covert behavior. Encouraging a milieu where folks comfortably voice their struggles beats one where they conceal them.

I did it many times back when my addiction is very high, I promise not to gamble after I lose a big amount I even swear that I will not, but the following day I'm back even promising to be better and not lose a big amount again.

How many of us are guilty of this?

Someone who has been involved in gambling for a long time must have felt this condition when addiction overtook us and always lied to himself to stop betting but always went to gambling to vent his addiction.
All of us who have experienced this problem will surely regret it when we remember that we have been in a really bad situation but we don't take it too seriously.
In fact, we are willing to lie to ourselves and our families, promising not to gamble anymore, but secretly still betting.
But with this bad experience it becomes a lesson that the main key to avoiding addiction is to control yourself not to keep coming to gambling.
On the condition that you've been playing gambling for a very long time then to those people who are still that good when it comes to finances despite of the engagement then it does signifies that you are really that good when it comes to handling yourself on getting addicted. Im not sure if they arent addicted or they are really just that good when it comes on handling finances. We know that there are really that people who are really that been aware about on their actions and not really that wrecking out themselves with gambling. On the time that you've not able to play and since your body and mind is really that get used to it then
it cant really be avoided for you to play again once you do have the opportunity, or you would be seeing the chance on doing so. Its not bad to gamble as long you are that able to control your finances or yourself
on everything because things turns out to be bad if you do come into a point on which you are really that spending that much.

The only way to combat this behavior and irregularities in gambling is to become busy with extra activities apart from tbe forum and betting, when you become less available to yourself, you will only stick to schedule time for gambling and wouldn't wager money when you don't plan to gamble.

I agree, having too much work to attend makes us forget about our gambling activity.  These jobs serve as distraction since our time is occupied by the job we have to attend too.     It is true that being idle the whole day is boring and we might attempt to engage in gambling activity more often.  If we want to avoid gambling just make sure that our time is always occupied or redirect our entertainment that is far from gambling activities.
yes, for people who manage to control themselves, they will go out to look for hobbies or other jobs to make them look busy, because with being busy we often forget the things we usually do, I experienced that because I am a worker so I only have time on weekends to gamble, therefore I don't become a heavy addict who has a lot of time and ends up gambling all the time.

People who don't have a job and only rely on money from their parents or cheat to gamble I think they spend more time gambling and often even become addicts, that's why it's hard for them to get out of their addiction because they also already think that the gambling they are doing is their source of income.

Most of the gamblers go through this situation, I have been many times too, promise not to play after losing too much but come back again when the profit is high. Many people have this addiction some can quit and some can't. Even if you lose that amount, there is a gambling problem. Many have asserted that the loss forced him to play more judiciously because he enjoys the game as entertainment. Gambling addiction usually depends on yourself, so try to avoid your own mistakes. Gambling addiction is at such a stage that it becomes difficult to keep any promises made.
We all regret our gambling acts only when we lose, especially when we know we have gone above our limits. If I play games within my budget the regret might be minimal but I will feel much pain if I gamble above my limit and lose. Chasing losses is one of the reasons why people gamble uncontrollably. Trying to recover losses most times lead to more losses which will ultimately lead to regrets. After these losses, we will come up with resolutions never to misbehave again, but we end up doing it because of greed.

The best approach to gambling will always be to gamble with what you can afford to lose and gamble using a plan. If your income increases you can increase your gambling budget and if it reduces it will be good to reduce the budget. Following these simple principles will shield one from gambling addiction and regrets.
Most people will regret their actions after experiencing defeat in gambling. But some people will come back even though they have expressed regret because they think they can play gambling again and who knows, they can win and recover their losses next time. That is an incorrect thought because they can experience another defeat, increasing their emotions and wanting to recover their losses even more.

What you are suggesting is something a lot of gamblers should be able to try so they don't bet more than they can afford. Apart from that, they also have to remember that gambling is not designed to give gamblers a win but to give a profit to the casino. By always limiting their gambling games, they will not try continuously to get profits and recover their losses but only play enough gambling.

I am very disciplined, mostly in gambling. If I do not play for a couple of months, I will really not play, so I can really control myself in gambling. In your case, you can't control your urge to play, which is why you are back, and for sure, in your head, you want to get back your losses, which is really a big mistake when it comes to gambling, as for sure you'll lose more. Though that is somewhat addictive as you can't control yourself, I do suggest creating your own hobby so that instead of gambling, you'll play on your hobby.

It is not easy to make a promise thinking things might be easy for us to fulfill the promise but seeing ourselves giong back not doing anything can be as a result of circumstances.
Feeling an atom of guilt while returning to gambling can be extremely uncomfortable; we should give ourselves appropriate counsel and do what works for us as opposed to refraining from gambling activities that we are aware are detrimental and end up costing us a lot of finances. Gambling has taken enough from me that every time I steel my resolve not to engage in gambling activities, I heard voices and witness tempting gestures from my peers that persuade me to return to gambling. We make our own decisions and are ultimately responsible for the consequences, whether positive or negative.

You are right, and I just wanna add that, it not a bad thing to for a person to find some relaxation through gambling, but its very important we learn to do it responsibly, even casino advices their users to gamble responsibly, so it's OK to find pleasure in gambling, but we must learn to draw a limit to how much money we are ready to comfortably invest in our gambling expenditures to avoid losing monies we do not or can not afford to lose at that time.

We can try to avoid gambling when we notice that it is becoming a problem to us, or beginning to cause financial distress to us and our family.

I used to have a girlfriend who was pretty strict about a lot of stuff, just little things like smoking weed and gambling. I never overdue anything but she still couldn’t understand that someone who has these vices, if they’re responsible about them, it doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

You don’t have to gamble aggressively each time, ya know.
Some human can be very mad when they see there man doing something they think is nit right. I know there are some good women out there that always want the best for there men when other would never mind if things fall apart. Taking a pledge never to go back to gambling maybe to our wife or family and later going back to it is very frustrating not to the people we make pledge to but ourselves. It is very important to know what we say so that we are not going to be hold guilty. It is not easy to make a promise thinking things might be easy for us to fulfill the promise but seeing ourselves giong back not doing anything can be as a result of circumstances.

It's not like gambling is a bad thing that needs to be avoided any way, it's perfectly OK to gamble even if you wanna do it the whole day, as long as there not more important things to attend to, and also, as long as the money being used for gambling is not one that if lost, could lead to regrets and depression, anxiety and other types of negative emotions/energy.

There are days I normally lots of hours gambling in demo mode, simply because I don't have the financial means to gamble with for that long cus I know I eventually will lose it all except I am extremely lucky, so for those who can afford it easily without any form of regrets in the end, gambling for a long time and doing it responsibly is still ok if you ask me.
It all matters on how you do control yourself because gambling is for leisure time and not something an income source that you would really be minding that much but surprisingly there are lots of

gamblers who do really end up with this kind of approach and believing that they could be able to achieve up such condition which it did rather ends up on a disaster. Gambling is for fun
but people do really go into a certain extent on which its not really that advisable anymore because it is really just showing off that you are already getting those kind of assumptions which
arent that realistic or cant really be possible in gambling.

Once you do make your mind been thinking up on this way then you would really be having the impression that you should play more to earn more or having the chance
on getting some huge winning.

Basically I think the most important thing here is to be discipline because if we are not discipline, no matter the amount of busy schedule we have, we could still get enough excuse to gamble at unscheduled time for it. The reason that human beings get to perform in what task they are given sometimes is because they are monitored or regulated to perform with some benefit in return like salary, so when you are not discipline you can over use your scheduled time for gambling when you are doing it just because nobody controls you on the time allotted for gambling. I have seen employed people who after coming back from work, they sneak out from their wives and family to go visit a gambling house to try some luck but they stay longer time than necessary at night while the wife kept calling their phone  Grin Discipline and control are important gambling habit

It is key to occupy our time not only with our jobs, after all there is a reason why the time you are supposed to work is limited, as you need roughly the same amount of time to relax after a difficult day at your job, so people need to find hobbies other than gambling, that way they will get all the fun and entertainment they need without overexerting themselves at their job or falling into the temptation to gamble again once they have promised themselves to stop for a time.
