I wouldn't have a problem betting against a team I was a fan of if the odds warranted it.  I don't think it's a sin or anything.  That being said, I do think that betting on the team you WANT to win instead of the team you THINK will win has it's own advantages.  It adds a little extra enjoyment when your team wins, and gives you skin in the game to cheer for your team.  So I guess it depends if you're in it for entertainment or to make money.  I personally gamble for entertainment, but I can see the benefit of betting against your team and taking the approach that you win no matter what happens.

I make more bets against my favorite teams than any other team for any sport period.  The reason is simple, I know my teams better than I know any other teams. So I know their strengths and weaknesses and I can capitalize on that. It’s foolish to not want to bet against your own team if you believe with certainty they are going to lose and by more than the spread or money line.

Bet with your head, not your heart.

Loved this! Cool You got some straight facts right there mate and I literally view the same way as you are.

Reason is simple enough though, in any give time or day that my favorite team will play regardless of the sport, I'm always open and available to the fact that I could bet on the opposing team especially if I know that my favorite team is not literally equipped to defeat the opposing team. Being a sports fan doesn't not always mean that we should bet towards them even if we already know their chances are not that strong. I'm here to gamble for some profits and not some losses for the sake of supporting the team.

I'm not going to mix up support for my favorite club with betting. This means that I will sort out between Manchester United fans in betting.
When Manchester United plays a club that incidentally has strength above them and has the potential to find it difficult to win, I will place a bet on the over or under odds.
When it comes to financial gain, then of course it's fine to bet against your own favorite team. But I don't because I don't have to force myself to bet against my own team even though I know they are not the favorite in a match. However, it still makes sense for whoever you are to bet against your own team if you believe they will lose in one match.

I just want to ask, are you betting on Manchester City win because they are the favorites in the FA Cup final against Manchester United. Are you sure to fight against your own team or just enjoy the match without betting?
We should really know on when to bet and when we shouldn't if we are really that minding that much when it comes to financial losses or losing money literally. Its not really that necessary on taking up a bet specially

if we do see that our favorite team is really that in problem or disadvantage.Pretty sure OP is really pertaining with that much and same goes into those other sports which are on the same situation where
we know that there are favorites and there's really the opposite. We arent really that dumb enough for us not to be able to determine which one is really that the favorites and which is the underdog.
If it turns out that your favorite team on the underdog side then for sure there's really that kind of frustration but supporting it would be unlikely unless if you are really that a die hard
which you do stick on betting on them even if you do see that chances of winning is slim because you are really that hoping deep inside that there would really be some possible upset.

Overall it would really be just depending on a certain individual on how he would really be handling out this kind of situation yet its our money then its our full rights on what are the things that we should do.

We are fans of different football clubs, and whenever there is football banter, we never fail to take sides with our respective clubs. We stand by them no matter what because that's what being a fan of a football club is all about - unwavering loyalty. However, not all of our favorite clubs perform well.
I am a Liverpool fan and no matter how they perform I am always with my club that's as a fan. When I am gambling then obviously my favourit team always get the benefit of the doubt but when it's obvious that my team is not in good shape and going to lose the match, I don't bet for them. I have gone against Liverpool many times even on the EPL pool.

Bet with your head, not your heart.
It does not always work for me and I tend to lose my bets all the time LOL

1xBit.. recovered their reputation
to be honest, I gamble using logic, not with feelings, so I bet on all the teams that I think have the potential to win based on the odds and so on

the purpose of gambling people is to make a profit, not bad luck, but I respect people who love to death with the football team they idolize

As a gambler and a die-hard fan of a club that has been having a terrible season, would you bet against your club, knowing that their loss would be your financial gain? Or would you stay loyal and not bet against them?

When Manchester United plays a club that incidentally has strength above them and has the potential to find it difficult to win, I will place a bet on the over or under odds.

For example in the last game Manchester United vs Fulham. I analyze that Fulham can score goals at Old Trafford because their game can make it difficult for Manchester United. In the end my bet won because it was bet on over 2.5.
My other bet yesterday was on the Chelsea vs Newcastle United match, I lost because I bet on Newcastle's win, including choosing to win Manchester City, which failed at Brentford.

from a certain point of view it is a contradiction.
I'm no longer an avid fan of my favorite team...personally I hate some situation behind "fans/hooligans".
If I had to choose between am economic win or their victory in a match... I really don't see place for negotiation, it's normal that I would choose my economic win!  Grin I also happened to bet against my national team more than once...  Roll Eyes
I quite agree with your take on this. It's not like I'm being paid to support them that I have to stay loyal to them. Being a fan doesn't mean I'd pass up on the opportunity of making money from betting against them! It's a hard no. No hard feelings, it's just business  Grin
So it depends on the perception of each of us. We could just place a bet for our team against another team, but I think it would be a waste of money, especially if we know that the opposing team is stronger than ours. Maybe it's better not to be a fanatic supporter, making us more flexible in choosing a team to bet on. We can also tell our friends that we are not die-hard fans willing to do anything for our team, so they won't make fun of us if we choose not to bet on our team.

Why not? Gambling is not about supporting your favourite sports or football stars, it's about making money, so yes I can bet against my favorite club, when it comes to making money it is far different from supporting what I like and love, two different things entirely.

It's same reason why some football clubs and few other sports make more money when they lose a match, they already took a deal and the deal becomes a success only if they lose a match.

Never ever trust anyone when it comes to money, because anything is possible with money, even the law can be meddled with if the offer of the money is very good, what was once impossible can become possible in a blink of an eye, all because of money.

Any serious minded gamblers should even know that there's nothing to die hard for in gambling or for the team you supported because at the end of the day, you're not being recognized by them and your opinion on their activities is never welcome, counted or recognized, why then should one go extremely being too emotional to that extent for just a supporting team, we have to better position our thinking and reasonings in other for them not to affected our mental health balance while gambling, this is more of being logical than been reasonable at your own expenses in giving your team a considerable honour at your own risk even when you need not to, to me that's not loyalty but stupidity.

It depends on who the match is fixed with... Who would ever prefer to lose his funds for the fact that he loves his club so much?? I thought we only gambled to win?? So how about when you're seeing a serious losing game and you keep wagering on them cus it's a big club playing against your lame club?? Would that change the fact that your team losses if they had to?? No!
But on the other hand, there's always this relief and less-anxiety when staking in favour of your club - but that's only when you're sure they'll win... Maybe when they're made to play with a club in the relegation zone etc ...lol. thirdly, it also depends on Which team you become a fan of.

Isn't it a captivating puzzle, the collision and fusion of the gamble and the fan club, as unpredictable as a cryptic cipher? It's an intriguing ballet of practicality and fervor, correct? From a purely pecuniary angle, betting on a guaranteed victor seems like unlocking the right cryptex. But, is sports fanhood just about logical combinations?

Your observation sets off an engrossing discourse on the dichotomy of emotions and decisions. Pragmatism would urge financial prosperity, yet an emotional pledge to a team might direct our compass elsewhere. A perpetual enigma of mental push-and-pull between the chambers of heart and brain.

Let's not forget the moral riddle of wagering on a game presumed to be 'rigged.'

We are fans of different football clubs, and whenever there is football banter, we never fail to take sides with our respective clubs. We stand by them no matter what because that's what being a fan of a football club is all about - unwavering loyalty. However, not all of our favorite clubs perform well. A typical case study is Chelsea, who have had one of their worst performances this season, currently occupying the 11th position. The challenges they have faced this season are unlike any other. Just last night, they were brutally defeated by Manchester United, who showed them no mercy, to the extent that they didn't even celebrate one of their goals.

As a gambler and a die-hard fan of a club that has been having a terrible season, would you bet against your club, knowing that their loss would be your financial gain? Or would you stay loyal and not bet against them?

The answer actually depends on your reasons why you are betting. So answers will vary for each gambler. Because if you are there to actually support your team, man. regardless of whether they win or lose you will support them. But if it does mean losing your funds, do not risk your money knowing that you are giving it away. You can give your support in many other ways. If loyalty is a great big deal for you, you won't bet on the other side. BUT if money is more important to you, and based on your analysis the other team will win, you can make a large sum of money in there. Again it all depends on the reason why you are betting in the first place.
Are you there to give your support or are you there to make money? All still are your choice.

I am personally Galatasaray fan here and Galatasaray is very close to win championship title. At this point I wouldn't be able to bet against them. In at least 5-6-7 football matches I expected them to win all. They actually lost once and could lose advantage even. In other words I was biased when measuring potential of my team and quickly made some decision mistakes. I rather leave their matches alone so.

fortunately, i'm not a big fan of Chelsea lol, i myself am a fan of Man Utd and Madrid but when Man Utd was in a bad phase (like a few months ago when there was no change to the MU squad) i never bet against MU but decided not to take bets for the time being, if it's related to MU, but it's different with Madrid, i always follow all bets related to Madrid because Madrid's performance was very satisfying even though they failed to win from man city in the UCL semifinals.  In general, you are not a loyal fan if the bet you make is against your favorite team.

Maybe in some of their matches, if the team they're up against is overall better and I see them struggling, then there's no need for me to hesitate in betting against them (as long as the odds are good to bet on). As a gambler, you don't always find matches that can be seen as an easy win, and there will be a day when your team will be involved, so there's no need to avoid them just because you're a die-hard fan. I respect those who don't, but when I see a good opportunity in front of me, then i'd always take it than just watch the game.

I do bets even if the odds aren't good or I know that the team that I support isn't in good shape in support of them. But this is just happening for sometimes when I think that I'm okay to lose money. I am not die hard as the others but that's just a way for me to support a club or team that I really like. It's not that a lot of money to lose and could just be a snack amount but, it's a way for me to show I like these teams but I'll never go beyond that with an amount that I can't afford to lose.
I get you as I'm also doing that, sometimes, when watching a game I place some bet even I fully know that my team might lose the game but I still place my spare money to show some support and also to add some entertainment while watching the game, but like you, it's just a spare amount, some money that I'm willing to let go for my entertainment.
That's true, I know people that do feel the same way understand that it's not about gambling anymore. As we're like to expect that these bets are set to lose and it's okay since it's not a lot and it's like a spare change that we have. While I understand that some people will say that people shouldn't bet when they're not comfortable of the teams they're betting. Yeah, but it's not about that but the support that we give them mentally and with this little actions that we do.

Not really a fan of being a heavy gambler where throwing huge amount just to support the team that I'm idolizing.
As long as we're not going to be hit badly by that amount, they're normal and there's nothing to worry about such. We do idolize and we do support and losing a bit is always part of gambling and that's okay as we've said that it's like just a show of supporting them and having some great entertainment.

A difficult choice. I think it mainly depends on how serious you are about gambling and how much money you have to bet. When it comes to a serious amount, I think the money takes precedence. But there are so many options to bet on and so many clubs to bet on, so why pick a match where you bet on your own team or bet against your own team? That is playing with the devil according to the proverb. I don't think that would be nice to watch if you have a bet against your team? You want them to win and then you don't.
