I'm not saying Trippier is a bad choice overall, I'm saying he's a bad choice at this point in time. I see Newcastle conceding 2+ goals on average, and I'm really not sure how many they'll be scoring with most of their offensive players injured.

This is the aspect Trofo has overlooked; no one is arguing Trippier is a bad player, but he's in a difficult situation with bad injuries and a mental health condition. If I had Trippier, I'd sell him to smooth out the midfield and bench for a possible bench boast chip.
I didn't overlooked it. My point is that I can't find a better combination for my team. I still have money in the bank, i have all the players I want to have, why would I transfer Tripper out? Newcastle played a couple of bad games just like they did beginning of the season, they will rise again and I am happy to wait. If I had wildcard maybe I would remove him, but not gonna use transfer on him.

If they kept a clean sheet against Bournemouth nobody would have a problem with Trippier. Same way nobody would be looking at Solanke. Remember what happened with Doku? And every other high profile transfer. They all failed, you can't chase past points just pick players that are delivering constantly and for me Trippier is just behind Salah and Haaland. There isn't another player in the league that gets bonus points like him. Clean sheet or one assist and he is almost always on max bonus. That sort of thing compounds over the season.

I'll give you one more angle to look at it. He outscored all players in the game with his price or below except Mbuemo. I for one would love to be able to play with 8 midfielders but it isn't possible. And while I can get value in mid even for 5.2M with player like Palmer, I can't get value in defense no matter how much I pay for it. If I did not have him and I was on wild card, he would be among first players in no matter current problems at Newcastle.

You can't look at Trippier just as expensive defender, he is scoring more than enough to be looked at across all positions, and then he is one of the cheapest players available and what is most important, he isn't a mid so you can use those precious spots on other players.

Sure, I'd take all that and consider him if I thought Newcastle's got any chance for decent performances in the next month or so.
If you look at their schedule, they've got Chelsea, United, Everton, Tottenham and Fulham in the league and 2 CL games between them + the League Cup QF against Chelsea.

Then they have 2 easy league games (Luton, Forest), after which they have Liverpool, City and Villa.
They have 10 or so injuries, 5 to really important players.

I'm not saying Trippier is a bad choice overall, I'm saying he's a bad choice at this point in time. I see Newcastle conceding 2+ goals on average, and I'm really not sure how many they'll be scoring with most of their offensive players injured.

Tell me one defender except from Arsenal defenders that you are would be willing to bet that he outscores Trippier in next 5 GW with 8 points difference. I don't think that he exists. City is always rotating, I already have Tsimikas to cover good Liverpool fixtures, Gabriel to cover Arsenal and thinking of getting Saliba as well. Maybe James after Chelsea gets on better run and if he stays fit. And that is always a big if, with James.

I want to get rid of Cash and I have nobody to bring. If I did not have Trippier I would probably go for him actually, at least he gets attacking returns and bonus points.

Well, if you look at it from that angle, fair point. But if you take Walker for example instead, you've got an extra 1,5 mil or so to invest in the team.
Maybe Walker doesn't outscore by himself, but him and a better midfielder probably outscore Trippier and a weaker midfielder.

I would not go for Trippier for sure at this point. I do think he was a great pick so far, he did enough for the cost, but Newcastle might be getting into a really rough period.

While I never indicated that I wanted to sell Trippier, I kinda get why some people would want to do that.

We are getting brutal news about Jarrod Bowen's injury, so very likely Trippier is auto subbed into my squad anyway.

Cash is overrated. I never understood all the hype.

I actually need to bolster my midfield, but now it is extremely hard to get someone like Son if you didn't already have him without gutting at least two other players. But then again I think we can say that about quite a few other players now can we  Smiley

I can't discern the point difference, but James and Pedro would outperform Trippier in the following five games. Trippier was able to play high line to create goal scoring chances thanks to Botman and Burn, and he's just returned from therapy.

Trippier===> James/Zouma

Cash =====> Zouma/James

Pedro=====> Silva/Zouma

I can't have Pedro and Cash facing each other this weekend so I'm likely going to get Zouma for Pedro and keep Cash.

Why are people so eager to get rid of Trippier?

Trippier is a very good player and he is scoring so many goals and making so many assists for a defensive player. However I can understand why people removed him from their teams as Newcastle have been showing a very bad performance in the recent times. I want to add James to my squad but this is a very risky move as he gets injured very frequently.

Yup, Trippier looks like a player to get rid of considering Newcastle's schedule and injury list.

I'm finally wildcarding after the LFC-City game, my team is generally okayish but my defence is in shambles. Looking forward to freshening it up.

Stones, Etsu, White, and Coufai as options? You definitely need to wildcard it at this point. I have yet to reach the point where I must use my wildcard.

Trippier price will fall within this week.
Why are people so eager to get rid of Trippier? He is absolute magnet for bonus points and best scoring defender in the game currently. I get it he is expensive and Newcastle has a couple of though fixtures but Trippier can get something from them as well.

Don't get me wrong, if transfers were free or if I had wildcard every few weeks I would get rid of him as well but as it stands he is in my team until season's end. There is very little players I can tell that about and maybe only Gabriel/Saliba, Son, Haaland, Mbuemo and Trippier could be season holds for me. Maddison was another one but his injury stopped that unfortunately.

Getting him off for a few GWs isn't a horrible idea given the club's present circumstances and the amount of money he sit on. With Burns and Shar out for a long period, he'll be playing a much deeper role. If he's getting anything out of those fixtures, it's a slew of yellow cards and getting into heated argument with home fans like last time.

Anyone else thinking if it's a good idea to bench Trippier for the next match against Chelsea?

I do not think he will get a return this week.

Newcastle United's next four games are against Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, and Tottenham Hotspur, with about 9 first-team players injured. That equals zero 4 clean sheets. Sell him and invest in your midfield and attack; there are always plenty of goals after international holidays.

@Harkorede Pep's mind games is destroying Halaand's international career. The Norwegian team is on the same level as the current Scottish team; they have everything it took to qualify for the Euros. They currently have a far superior squad than the Walse squad Bale brought to the Euros and World Cup.

In Nigeria nobody cares about your club achievements, the citizens are only interested in your national team career/achievements. If you don't have National team legendary status no appointment for you. Lol

Gavi, at the age of 19, has a greater international legacy and is more patriotic to his country than Halaand; it's a greater honour to get fucked up playing for your motherland than it is to play for your club side. Gavi will be remembered for giving his all for the Spain jersey.

Mikel OBi is Nigeria's most decorated player today after sacrificing his Chelsea career for the country.

No international game is unimportant in Africa; every player wants to play.

There is an absolute difference between being patriotic enough to represent your country on every level, even in Africa there matches considered to less important and those are the best time to give some other players playing time as well, playing for your country while not being fully fit or with a minor injury isn’t what I’d refer to as patriotism, rather is just negligence.

————————-

I believe Jarred Bowen would also be available for the weekend too, it’s just some publicity facade and more over, the FPL injury chat can’t be solely relied upon too, except for the red ones and long term injuries.

. Nigeria may fail to qualify for the next World Cup for the second time in a row. Our strikers are the best in Africa, but our midfield and defence are abysmal.
Sometimes I wonder why this is happening, I mean Nigeria houses an impressive number of strikers and these strikers are all doing well which we know a team doesn't just need the strike force as the defense and midfield are most vital as the strike.
I don't know but looking on home base midfielder in the Nigerian premier league can be of some kind of solution as these players are desperately hungry to showcase their talent but we obviously know how the team selection is done.

We have this mentality of fielding only players who play outside of the country, and these rich players offer their match bonuses to managers in order to be selected. In Africa, this is a common practise.

FIFA will pay Barcelona £20,000 per day until Gavi recovers from injury next year. That's a lot of cash.

Jarrod Bowen is another player of concern having withdrawn for the England squad due to injury, the same goes for Mitoma (I'm already looking to get him out for a long term or permanently, perhaps), and Rasmus Hojlund too.

Nice to see him as a doubt, I just traded him in this week Grin
Looks like you are not the only one who had traded him in prior to that injury news. I am going to totally avoiding transferring players in until each International Break passes. It sucks. I am not sure why it's even called an International Break any more  Grin

I am blaming FIFA, they are the main problem. And to make it worse they are making both EURO and WC even bigger and less appealing. It is all about the money and we will enter into place when football will start loosing its audience.

Few years ago I was still watching every CL game, every big derby in Spain or Italy, every game on every EURO or WC. Now there is so much football that I am basically watching just Premier League, and some big matches in CL. Other leagues are ignored and it never crosses my mind to watch some stupid national team game, unless it is again a duel between top teams, Croatia or I have a shitload of money on it.

If these players are not protected in the same way that referees are, we may have to revisit the Super League discussion because they provided a solution to what we currently have. Reduced match time and more

Africa has crazy qualifiers. I just read an article today on how difficult it is to qualify.
Long distance travel on bumpy roads, often without airplanes, constant hostile environments away from home and no margin for error. I will follow it more this time around - now more teams have a chance, right?

Lol Some fields are intentionally left in poor condition for home advantage, but no country I know uses the road owing to border insecurity. Nigeria may fail to qualify for the next World Cup for the second time in a row. Our strikers are the best in Africa, but our midfield and defence are abysmal.
