GGG is also too cautious making him lose rounds.  There are opportunities where GGG can land solid punches but being too cautious making him miss those opportunities.   The fight is like wait and counter making jobs a more effective way to score.  GGG throws jobs but most of them got deflected or blocked by Canelo's defense, while Canelos land more punches by sneaking body shot, hooks and uppercut.  Canelo somehow stole rounds by landing combinations impressing the judges.
It is indeed a close fight but the result says it.  Canelo wins the fight but it was too close, IMO.
^ Due to Golovin prolonging the fight and failing to knock him out, the fight was expected to go Canelo's way; therefore, the decision would go against GGG.
I had expected GGG to come out a little more aggressively since I believe he was also aware that if it was a decision, he wasn't going to win. However, it is likely that he wanted to fight the way he does best. I believe that he is still capable of fighting and I think that he can continue to do so. It should not be viewed as a career-ending decision for him since he is already on track to become a legend. It is my belief that he will still be able to continue fighting for at least two more years, if not more.
well, we did see the GGG has still the stamina to last 12 rounds despite of his age. so yeah, maybe he won't retire yet. but if he doesn't want to prove anything anymore, he can always retire and call it a day. enjoy the remaining years of his life without any bad injury from boxing. and for canelo, at least he got his winnings to get going with his career. because if he lost this fight, his bankability will go down because of the consecutive losses.

^ Golovkin is obviously still capable of fighting. But the problem is we have seen his age taking a toll on his body. And because he is already 40 years old it is actually not recommended for him to continue his boxing career at all from now on. Especially if he wants to avoid any serious injuries. But I think at the end of the day everyone needs money and Golovkin is no different from that. So, I think he can take one or two easy fights going forward.

For Canelo, he should be looking to perform better from now on because he got a win to put him on the right track again. His next fight is going to be really challenging, so he should be concentrating really hard on that one against Bivol.

GGG is being cautious because he is making sure to get more points in each round. He knows that Canelo is tough to beat if the fight ends up in a decision. Still, he doesn't being knock out by the strongest boxer in the Supper Middleweight.

Canelo clearly wins the match. No more issues, no more criticism. Their chapter is now close.

True, even Canelo win in this fight he didnt manage to win via knock out. Though he improves a lot, it might because of what he learned from his loss before this fight. Anyway we know GGG tried his best and the results are also close, it's not easy for him to fight a boxer who currently on his prime. They're both great, respect to these boxers for giving us an awesome fight and yes this chapter is now close.

You can't blame the old guy here, he is fighting against prime Canelo who is the undisputed champion in that division.

GGG is trying his best to win at every round but it's not a simple task to do. Canelo won't surely allow that to happen. Still, we saw GGG lasted for a 12-round even way past his prime. Canelo is also exhausted and that means he also has difficulty destroying GGG.

What a Great match! We are lucky to witness this match that will be cemented in boxing history from now on.

Congrats to Canelo Alvarez and still the undisputed Super Middleweight Champion.

With the defeat of GGG, who else can match Canelo at this division and try to throw away his reign?

If no one does, Canelo now needs to revenge his loss against Bivol at the Light Heavyweight as his next goal.

it took 12 rounds and a decision to defeat GGG. seem not a real fight to me actually. canelo seem very careful in getting too close to fight toe to toe. no highlight that really inflicts damage. its either that or he makes sure the crowd will enjoy a 12 round fight for the independence day celebration. anyone see it like this is an exhibition fight?

I do agree with your statements.

The fight overall was somehow not explosive as I thought it would be but still enjoyable. There were lots of opportunities on both players where they could take risks and go for the blow but the fight was cautious one for both. Maybe they were not taking too much risks since they were chasing for points in the round. But again, that iron chin of GGG cannot KOed.

Though that might be the case, I am quite thrilled that we see an ending to this exceptional trilogy- where Canelo stood to the top!

Both of them are cautious in the beginning, Canelo even says that after the first 1, he knows that it is going to be very difficult to knock Golovkin out so it became a chess match, although Canelo seems to be dominating the rounds but the judges saw it very close so it's good that they because conscious scoring it.

For the future of both boxers, Golovkin says that he still has 3 belts at 160 lbs so for sure he will have to defend it next year. Just a matter of time before he retire though, as I agree with some boxing pundits that GGG is somehow slowing down already, evident in the Murata fight wherein he takes a lot and then in this fight against a prime Canelo. And so the their rivalry has ended, Canelo winning the trilogy is decisive enough that he won it, although there is a argument that he fought a version of Golovkin that is almost no longer at his best, (2nd and this fight).

For me and many of us, it's not even close, its not something that could go either way, at the end of the fight people obviously know who won and nobody can argue that, experts totally agree that Canelo won unanimously and some say the judges' scorecards are worst for making it appear too close.

True, Golovkin could go all-out in the early rounds if he wanted to and tag the scores in his favor but he knows well that those scores won't really matter as he would also risk getting defeated via KO if the fight drags on as he might gas out when that happens. I do believe that Golovkin made the right decision and he's just gotten older now that's why he cannot keep up with Canelo at all times.

Golovkin deserves respect and credit for fighting against Canelo for a full 12-rounds.
That was truly a magnificent one which it did able to scale up to 12 rounds despite on the gap which you could really see that GGG had really been that majorly affected by its age.

It is really that surprising that he had able to finish up that 12 rounds but we know that it wasnt enough on taking down Canelo.Hence we can really able to see the differences

and it isnt really that a bad last fight if ever he would decide up to retire after this fight. There's nothing to prove something and still people do respect and been
amaze with this recent fight that he had shown.

I am watching the fight, as well as following Sporting News and CBS Sports for unofficial scorecards. The score so far is:

CBS Sports: 99-91 Canelo (Canelo won 9 out of 10 rounds)
Sporting News: 96-94 Canelo (Canelo won 6 out of 10 rounds).

Golovkin making strong comeback from rounds 6-7, but it looks as if that is not enough. Canelo is the clear winner of this fight, by a good distance.

Canelo won but not with a good distance as two judges scored it 115-113 so there could be a draw if GGG won one more round which could spark controversy again. I've watched the fight and I think GGG has lost 9 rounds. If only he fought his fight in the early rounds the outcome could have been different but as they said, he was fighting as an old man, he may be gassed out if threw punches early and got knockout on the championship rounds.

So for me, this is the end of this match as clearly GGG is aging and depriving the fans of his true fighting style.

I think everyone understands that any controversial situation will be resolved in favor of Canelo and if the fight is equal or without a big advantage of one of the boxers, then Canelo will definitely be declared the winner. It is not profitable for anyone to give the victory to a boxer who is about to retire and finally ruin the career of Canelo, who can be a money cow for many years to come. In this sense, the fight is initially unfair - GGG understands all this and is under great pressure.

Canelo by Decision is 1.97 and 2.60 by KO. They are both worth betting. If I have to speculate which round, probably 2-3, there will already a huge difference to points or GGG will already show signs of gassing out.

Yes, this is an unfair fight to begin with. They waited for GGG be this old which is why GGG needs to KO Canelo or make obvious striking points beyond doubts to win this fight which is also difficult since he had gained weight.

For these "strategies" I do not like boxing. I would like to see football fans if their favorite team played one game a year (or even a month  Grin ) and ran from strong opponents. But for boxing, this is usually the case.
I haven't watched the fight yet (the time was too bad in my time zone) and since I know the result, I'm unlikely to watch it  Grin I'm glad that GGG at least did not lose by knockout.

Congratulations to Canelo and good luck in fighting Bivol soon.
Now, this one is going to be exciting, Canelo already bring his name back as he impressed the fans, this rematch should be interesting.

IMO, Canelo will still be having a hard time defeating Bivol if we based our speculations on his performance today. Though he won against GGG but for me it is not that he has improved, just that GGG was saving his stamina in the later rounds or he will be gassed out early. When he started throwing that jab, Canelo got problems and if Bivol will do the same but on the early rounds then i think the outcome of the rematch would be the same as the first fight.

I believe that Bivol is the second-best active fighter in the world right now. So, it is going to be really hard for Canelo to beat Bivol. He is just coming from a win against GGG, I agree but GGG is 40 years old. And this was a fight that was meant to be a win for Canelo. So, I think this is an expected result.

But in the next fight against Bivol, he is going to face some really big difficulties. I really think that when the decisions are not going to be biased, Canelo is not going to be the favourite against Bivol.

I noticed an interesting thing about this fight: Golovkin can win, but most likely only by knockout - he is too old to last the whole distance of the fight and win on points. If Canelo wins, it is likely that his advantage in the fight will result in Golovkin getting knocked out before the end of the fight. So, based on these considerations, it seems to me that a bet on total 11.5 under with odds of 2.45 looks very profitable.

Old but not too old mate, don't underestimate GGG, he might have aged but he still has the power. If we believe hat he is too old, then there's no chance that he can knock out a strong Canelo Alvarez. We will see this fight tomorrow, I can't wait to watch this big fight, hopefully, it's another entertaining fight.

Too bad (for me, hehe because of the bet) that the bookmakers were right and the fight lasted the full 12 rounds. To my surprise, Golovkin looked better than I expected and even surpassed Canelo in the number of jabs. It is a pity that in all other indicators he was worse and, by a fair decision of the judges, lost the fight. Well, it was a good fight, but few people expected a different result, so it's hard to say that it somehow changed the future plans of these two boxers.

Absolutely not, there's so much at stake to call this an exhibition match, there's not much action between the two, that's because they have too much respect for each other and they both know that one bad or false move one of them can get himself knock out
GGG shows an aging sign and Canelo is just too much for him but he can still fight any fighter in the middleweight division and can still beat them, for Canelo its another great highlight for his career he still has a long way to go and the boxing community is waiting for the next fighter to fight him, many are lining up now.

Canelo respect the power of GGG, and why would he will go for a KO if he can beat GGG with his speed. We saw how GGG slowed down already, he is not the same GGG that fought Canelo in their previous fight, I think the result of the fight clearly tells GGG that he has to retire already.

Canelo knows that GGG still have that solid power punch, making a small mistake can cause him the fight,
Canelo just stay with his usual strategy not to let any chance for GGG to beat him.

Now that Canelo takes another win, which will conclude these rivalries, not a good timing for GGG as we have witnessed
the sign of an aging fighter who still trying to do everything, he wanted this win but unfortunately Canelo's youth is a big factor here.

Maybe GGG still have some good fights to come, maybe he's not going to retire yet.

Looks like Canelo is more discipline in this fight and he was very effective and more confident to win this time. He really deserves a re-match with Bivol and it will be no doubt a different Canelo will gonna face him if ever they will gonna make it happen. right now, that's all everyone wants after they see the performance of Canelo today, and might gonna happen just before the end of this year or might be next year.
The next match scheduling for Canelo vs Bivol is not possible for the end of the year as Bivol have to finish another fight against Gilberto Ramírez on November 5th, So early quarter of next year for a big boxing rematch schedule for Canelo vs Bivol.

However, the whole round has dominated points for canelo and it was like an exhibition match because Canelo didn't force to finish for KO, despite siding for canelo but I hope GGG is stronger like the previous match, many of GGG punches don't land and he saves more stamina for some the last round, so even though he refused to retire after the defeat but I'm sure in another interview he will be serious about his retirement statement.

Golovkin took this fight well, Canelo was constantly trying punched per corps, and his punches were generally more accurate and stronger, but Golovkin survived everything. Somewhere in the tenth round, Golovkin began to take more risks, because he understood that he was clearly losing on points and maybe he even managed to look better in this round, but in general, Canelo's advantage was clear, as a result of a victory by decision.

So for me, this is the end of this match as clearly GGG is aging and depriving the fans of his true fighting style.
I also don't see GGG winning the fight even if he won another 2 rounds. It was very clear from the beginning that GGG has lost the speed already. It's so glaring if we are going to compare it with their second fight like 4 years ago. He said he still has it, but I doubt it. And there were moments in the fight wherein he looks like getting hurt by Canelo, he was stop on his tracks and then regroup again. Round 9 was great though, the bes round in this fight and I would give that to GGG. But the rest, it was a clear and dominant win by Canelo so yeah, probably 9 rounds for him, and 3 for GGG.

Obviously, we all know that this is going to be a win for Canelo unless Golovkin manages to score a knockout victory against him. And we all knew that if there was not a knockout win, the final decision was going to be controversial via the judges' scorecard.

No matter how much I disagree with the decision from an individual point of view. If I had to say who was the winner in this match I would have also probably said that Canelo is going to be the winner. Despite the fact that I do not like this decision, I would like to congratulate Canelo on his victory. In regards to GGG, I would say that it is not going to completely tarnish his legacy. He is still one of the best and I also don't see these two fighters facing off against each other in the future.

Regards

Duke
