Waited for ages to get this trilogy fight. But now I am not that excited. Canelo agreed to this fight only after knowing that Golovkin's prime days are over. The trilogy fight is occurring 4 years after Canelo vs Golovkin 2. Ideally Canelo should have agreed to the fight in 2019, or the latest by 2020. Now Golovkin is already 40 years old and his prime days may be over. As the odds predict, I am not expecting much from the Kazakh legend now. He maybe able to put a tough fight and may last the full 12 rounds, and that is all.

As expected, there will be comments like these. This shows how active we are in the world of boxing because we can say that a certain fight is or was a mismatch including this trilogy. Even if Canelo himself won't admit that he's not afraid of GGG but it's so clear and he cannot deny that fact that GGG is one of those boxers who pushed him into corners and had a hard time.

That is also why Canelo vocally said there's no need for a trilogy because he won the 2 fights when in-fact the 1st match was a draw and it was a close bout. Now, Canelo agreed because GGG is already at his verge of retiring this industry and the latter is not that fully capable of defeating Canelo unlike if he had given a trilogy early 2020.

I believe that if Canelo will win, the people and the fans won't be impressed about it. But who knows, maybe GGG can still manage to give Canelo another upset followed by that defeat against Bivol.

I go with your statement, Even Canelo will win this fight. There's no impact on his name anymore, unlike if GGG wins this fight the hypes

before he retires his gloves will really impacting to his career. We don't know if how the fight will be ended and how both fighters will

comes up with their respective strategy, as long as we will all be entertained it's good enough in finally see the trilogy of this fight,

it's long been waited and now it's finally here.

Why are we judging this fight too early? Canelo is too arrogant if he is looking for his next fight after this, I think he should focus first on this fight as although GGG is quite old but he is a tough opponent, Canelo could not even dominate GGG in the last 2 fights they had againts each other.

Because during this 4 years pause Canelo has improved his skills and has entered his prime form, and GGG just became 4 years older. Look at boxers Canelo has fought after their second fight and GGG. Steve Rolls, top 39 in the world, Derevyachenko - top8, Szeremeta - top41, Murata - top10. While Canelo tried himself in different division and top2-top5 opponents all the time.

In addition, this 9 year difference is huge. It would be nothing if Canelo was 25 and GGG 34. But it is 31 and 40. Look on the age of current champions and those who are top3. Everyone are 30 +/- few years. GGG is like a dinosaur among them. If his skill is close to Canelo, than his stamina is not. He can compete with Canelo in early rounds, and in the second part of the fight he wont be that quick as Canelo.

The only was I see GGG could win, if Canelo will be loading his one KO punch all the time and GGG would follow Bivol tactics, throw combos and gain points. If Canelo would go for a knockout, then one again judges would decide the outcome of this fight. If both with go gaining points, then this time Canelo will honestly won by points.

Exactly, not as heated as before. I see this fight identically as people wanted to see Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield third fight. Their second fight ended with Mikes DQ. Anyone wants to see Mike and Evander fight today? Even as an exhibition fight.

Nothing will be achieved with this fight. Fighters will earn a lot as usually. Promotion is going to pump this fight as a fight of a century. Canelo is already looking forward for another opponent, and  I see a sadness in GGG eyes, as this might if not last, but last big fight in his career.

I'm just happy and excited that both have finally agreed to take on each other. This has been in demand from so many boxing fans for a long time and it wasn't given. And now it is on the table. This is overdue of course but at least this is finally happening. Before GGG would hang up his gloves at least he's able to fight Canelo once more. I hope he still got it.

But this is probably not as heated as before. The heated competition between GGG and Canelo is long gone. Canelo has since became the king while GGG had his own path.

I am glad that this match is finally happening. The only thing I want is to have a honest jury. Adalaide Byrd made a mockery during the first fight and people like me lost our trust with boxing because of that. IMO, GGG won the first match although the jury handed it out as a draw. And in the second match, it was more like a draw, but the jury awarded it to Canelo. As such I don't have anything against Canelo, but it won't be unfair to him if I claim that without the help from the jury he wouldn't have defeated Golovkin in 2018.

Although definitely, despite the odds, certainly GGG will still do his best to get this win since he is already in his retirement age. Any boxer would want and dream to have a win on their last fight. I guess this is self-explanatory. Hopefully, this will really push through and no nuisance will occur.

Don't count it as their last fight it might start a new beginning of their matchup, they have not fought for many years and have fought many different opponents and there's an improvement or diminished performance, its a new ball game actually I don't see them get it on where they left, they will size up each other and check if it's the same boxer he met twice.
I have not yet seen their face-off and it will be interesting how will it play out if they meet again after all these years.

No, I don't expect another fight after this whoever wins the fight. GGG is not getting any younger, though he can still fight but one day he will realize that it's about time to hang the gloves and enjoy retirement. We should not miss this trilogy as it could be GGG's last fight, and as his fan, I'm hoping he will win against Canelo, that would be a great achievement before he retires.

It will be huge news if GGG win and then finally call it quits and avenge his only lost to Alvarez. So this is big fight for GGG, although they have cemented their legacy in boxing, but I win here will really harden his name as one of the best in this generation and probably the best 160 lbs of all time. We will see, he is eager and hell bent to fight Alvarez and punish him and get even.

His timing for the rematch is very favourable to him since Canelo is still suffering a possible breakdown due to his upset loss to Bivol that is still young and early stage of his career. GGG is waiting for this perfect opportunity to finally clean his record to even his only lose to Canelo. I believe there might be match 4 for this rivalry like what happened to Pacquiao vs Marquez in case GGG manage to win this match to finally conclude that he is the greatest boxer compared to Canelo which keeps foreshadowing his career despite a good run since he only loss to him.

Wow. Pretty unfair odds for GGG. I myself understand that he cannot be the favorite in this fight simply because of his age, but 3.90 against a boxer who was defeated in a previous fight and is perhaps in a crisis? Looks like it's time to bet on GGG. By the way, I don’t know how much it need to believe in Canello after the beating that happened to bet on him with odds of only 1.21.

That's how the bookies sees it, Canelo is still the favorite based on their 2 fights.Obviously he did come from a big lost, but this is not the first time they have fought and he got 1 win from GGG. So the bookies is just about right. Really up to you if you wanted to believed on the initial odds. If you are not then maybe look for other betting options.

Anyhow, for GGG supporters, 3.90 is the best odds you can get in this fight.

Naturally, I am inclined to bet on GGG, because I think he is underestimated. But it may be more logical to bet on a knockout victory, since it is unlikely that he will be given the victory if he slightly outboxes Canello.

Yes, while GGG is already 40 and Canello was beaten by Bivol, the value of this fight has dropped by 10 times or more. And this is clearly not the case when better late than never.

If for some reasons, GGG will pull off on this fight, I have the feeling that Canelo's camp will ask for another match.
However, it is true that GGG is not getting any younger, the outcome of this match is yet to be seen.
So maybe, both camps are also weighing their next moves after this fight.
I think the sportsbooks will slightly favor Canelo when it comes to odds, owed to possibly age factor.
Let's see how bookies will give the odds on this match.

It's officially announced that the trilogy between Canelo and GGG will happen this September 17 and the rematch with Bivol will wait or will not happen.

For me, this should happen years ago when GGG was not so old hehe but nevertheless fans will still watch this fight to see if GGG has still some tricks on his sleeve.

Who you've got on this fight?

Canelo vs Golovkin 3: Trilogy match between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin officially announced for September 17

It would be a much awaited trilogy fight between these boxers. Surely, it would be a challenging one for GGG because Canelo is still at his prime and active phase. Despite GGG having a win recently, it's somehow known that the odds of sportsbook is still inclined with Canelo because he's made a reputation already and is considered a heavy opponent.

I disagree, this fight is not one of those anticipated fights anymore but on GGG's perspective, this is his most awaited fight. It's already been a long year since he was granted by this fight, his chances on wining this fight is not that high anymore though he is still capable but we cannot ignore the fact that Canelo is still on his prime even though he was defeated recently by Bivol.

People love to see this rematch to happen for years now and i hope this information is legit and final decision because surely it will become the most interesting rematch this year IMO.  Indeed we all saw how they gave us a good fight on the previous match, So no doubts its a good fight again.

It's final and going to happen in September, many boxing sources have confirmed it already.

And I agree that the odds are not surprising at all, they are putting Canelo again in this fight to win but with him coming from a big loss to Bivol, GGG might see that Canelo has somewhat slow down already. So this is going to be a close fight, and just like the last two fights, it could go either direction and it's going to be up to the judges again to score but hopefully they get the right winner.

Or, KO might happen now, either GGG take Canelo down or vice versa, it's better compared from judges decisions, the first one has a controversial though the other one gives Canelo a clear win, if the outcome of this fight will be a KO there's no need to anyone to doubt and as personal choice putting some spare to GGG have a decent amount of profits.

We never know how he will prepare for this fight. He's very eager to have this opportunity and now it's already happening, giving everything

to win is not just a simple one but a pride to make it happen.

Agree with. @3.90 is something you can't usually get to a titleholder and considered a big name in the boxing world regardless if they are in their prime or not. If I remember it right Bivol has @3 odds as an underdog against Canelo and take note he's still in his prime that's why it's just reasonable for GGG to have that decent odds fighting against Canelo.

Personally, I'm considering placing a bet for GGG and will disregard any boxing analysis about his disadvantages or possible flaws. I just feel he will have a good retirement celebration by defeating Canelo in their trilogy match.

That's the early odds? Too high from my 3.0 expectations. And then I realized I bet on Donaire at 4.70. I was so wrong then. Until now, I still cannot imagine how GGG beats Canelo. Hurting him or knocking him out is out of the choices. Because if a light heavyweight KO artist like Kovalev or even Bivol cannot hurt Canelo then how much more if it is an old GGG. We can also consider when Canelo took well GGG's best shots few years ago. And with this version of GGG, Canelo will be the busier fighter and will throw more punches that will make it more difficult for the former to score a decision. So I conclude that my 4.70 bet on Donaire is better than that 3.90 on GGG. At least we already saw Donaire busted Naoya's face. Cheesy

Yes, saw this thread a couple of days ago and it's good that we have a thread already,  Smiley

Line is open already,

Alvarez - 1.21
Golovkin - 3.90

So obviously Canelo again will be the favorite, but I think this fight is going to be close again and could end up in the score card. And maybe Canelo might win by a narrow margin, around 115-113 for him.
