But actually, the question is, can he guarantee a win if he increases his popularity?

If ever he wins against Spence Jr, it will just be the common and usual win and no bearing about his chance on his political run for President.

Lots of people support him, no doubt about that. But in the presidency, that was the question. For me, he should just stay with the Senate. His promise of no-squatters (this is not possible but maybe reduced) if ever he will become a President can also be started while he's in the Senate.

It's not that Pacquiao is seen as a newbie in Presidency but he should take that post later on once he's now focused on the politics after retirement.

^^ I think it's more on the purse that Manny needed, not the fight itself if he wanted to really run for the highest office in his country. He might get close to 1 billion php in his fight against Spence and we all know that running a public office in the Philippines requires tons of money to get your campaign going.

So regardless if he wins or lose against Spence, he will have that money he needed to pursue his presidential bid. And I don't think he will get more that popular if he wins, because he is already that popular anyway.

But actually, the question is, can he guarantee a win if he increases his popularity?

Honestly, I think the majority of the voters know the name "Manny Pacquiao", but we still see that his rating has dropped, which means a lot, in a negative way.  He will have to beat that trust rating.  -----  Duterte maintains high approval, trust ratings

Not sure if Manny can beat his trust ratings even if he win against Spence here.

He is already on the opposition side, no that is already a big disadvantage for him. The drop was obviously due to his recent corruption allegations on the current administration. And it didn't sit well with Duterte and his followers that why they insinuated a lot in the social media and troll Manny. But step aside politics, if he 'upset' Spence his popularity about the boxing community grow, he is already a legend and this win will cement his position even further, but I'm not sure if the win will change the Filipino's mind on voting him in the election.

I will bet 2 is to 10, he won't. Politics in the Philipines is not anymore about popularity, they had already elected the president that majority wants, and he has a very high trust rating, higher than any president of the Philippines I guess.

Pacquioa just have to focus on this fight, win this fight and he will start thinking wisely about whether he will run for presidency or not.

I reckon you underestimate popularity in elections because in reality elections are only a popularity contest. Trump won versus Hillary on 2016 because of his popularity among the lower class in America. I speculate that it might be similar in Pacman’s country. This win versus Spence will create a clamor for him to run as president.

Also, if the news media begins creating storylines that the present administration of a country is corrupt, unjust and oppressive, this is the first signs that there are political backers begining their move. Pacman will be with that move. In any case, I predict that he will declare he is running for president if he wins.

Pacquiao's trust rating as of this late has declined due to his attack on the sitting President which enjoyed a very high trust rating even if this is his last year in the position. Before Manny flew for the US, he accused some government agencies of corruption which he could not prove, and instead of doing his job as a senator, where he is in the US training for his fight while the people he ought to serve is in danger of this delta variant of covid.

He might not admit but he is distracted by the issues on his home country. Believe it or not, more people are now praying that Pacquiao will lose this one because they feel that Manny is selfish and only after his own interest.

I am not quite certain on the state of politics in the Philippines, however, I am very certain that governments of 3rd world countries are very widespread in corruption from the bottom to the top. It might not be provable but this does not suggest that it is not there.

You are wrong with that, the Philippines is not anymore a 3rd world country, it already belongs to a developing countries.

In any case, if Pacman’s trust rating is declining then this victory versus Spence on August 21 is very much needed for him. The purse might also be needed to fund his campaign hehehehe.

It's declining because of his political stance, the outcome of the fight has no relation with his journey in Politics.

For the Manny's fight against Spence, I do hope he wins.

But if he chooses to run as President, I don't like him winning and will likely not vote for him.

I think I have the same sentiments here with the majority of Filipino boxing fans. If he retires after this fight then so be it, just finish his terms as senator and live his life to the fullest. Or just be a boxing promoter, he already has MP promotions, he used just focus his time and money so that he can put more fights in the US with Filipinos in the undercard and give them exposure. I'm not a 'fan' of him involving in politics, this is just my personal opinion.

I don't want him to run for the post of president. Right now, he is nowhere in the picture, as per the opinion polls.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_2022_Philippine_presidential_election

As a candidate of the PDP–Laban, he is even struggling to cross 10% level. Sara Duterte of HNP remains the strong favorite, with consistently polling close to 30% for more than a year. I am not saying that the gaps can't be closed, but IMO it will be better for him to target the 2028 Philippine presidential election. He needs to have a bit more experience in the field of politics. If he losses in 2022, then 2028 will be difficult for him.

Me too, I will not vote for as politician but I will support him as a Pro Boxer because he is the pride of our country. I'm replying on the quote statement above that many Filipino will pray for him that he will lose on the match. This is such disgusting considering MP achievement and works for the Philippines.

Try to look at the social media post where the training of Manny is shown and you will see a lot of comments where they said they are praying for Manny to lose lol but I think these people are die-hard supporters of the President.

Personally, even before his attack on the President, I have already doubted that he could pull off this tough fight. Spence is bigger and in his prime, while he is old and in the twilight of his career. Sure that Manny would get a lot of money out of this fight but I just saw the referee raising the hands of Errol after the fight  Grin.

If the source is the social media post then most of it are paid trolls and die hard supporters which we can't deny since peenoise always do that for self interest. I experience the attack personally when I made a constructive comment about some issue on the Philhealth before but thistrolls swarm to my post and comment irrelevant topic like "ano ambag mo". It sucks to hear while you are raising a serious concern. Anyway, Back on topic, The odds is pretty juicy for MP. This is the first time I will bet on him with greater odds because I skip Mayweather-Pacman fight.  Grin

Is this true? haven't seen the social media posts about Filipinos wanted Manny to lose in the fight because of politics. But I do agree that those wishing Manny not to win is those that are not a boxing fans. Nevertheless, this is really a hard fight for Manny, the odds says he is the underdog and it's a totally different fight as compare to Thurman. For me Spence is a perfect fighter and the best welterweight. So even if Manny wins here, I'm sure when he goes back to the Philippines, he will be welcome by a lot of bashers.

We have different opinions mate, I can see that Spence will struggle in this fight because he can't hit a fast Manny Pacquiao, however, I'm a bit concern that Manny will lose as Spence is taking this seriously, he is not saying any trash talk to Manny, and he even admits that Manny doesn't look 42 so he will train hard to beat the legend, two humble fighters, I like to see them fighting toe to toe in the ring.

Let us set aside politics, for now, the fight schedule is new, I guess it's just right to show our support by not talking about politics, we support him to win, and let that politics talk start after this fight. Manny is the pride of our country, his success is also our success.
I think you are correct, the topic is manny pacquiao vs Errol spence in a boxing contest, and not Manny pacquiao political campaign, am not from the Philippines, and I know about politics news aren't accurate, you have to be there to know how the political leaders there are governing them, so it may be regional if the topic is about Manny pacquiao as a politician, but as an athlete and a professional boxer he is one of the greatest in his division and am excited to see him back in the ring again.

In the Welterweight division, only 3 champions are popular, that's Manny Pacquiao, Errol Spence Jr., and Terence Crawford, so whoever wins this fight, could fight Terence Crawford and if he still does not accept the challenge, then we will not see competitive boxing again in this division.

For the last years, I think this one is the biggest in this division as every time Manny Pacquiao fights, everyone is so interested to see it.

It looks like the odds are in favor with Spence Jr? I really like this discussion, I was planning to place bet on this even but I'm not quite sure which fighter I should place bet on, both of them are great fighters but Spence is younger than Pacquiao and also he has a lot of experience and undefeated with a score of 27 wins and 21 KO. Is there a live bet on this kind of match?
Don't know about the live bet but can't you just bet on both, I mean you can probably make some money out of who wins in this match if you put an equal amount of bets on both sides, just make sure though that your bet on the lowest odds will double so you can break even just a little. Being undefeated doesn't mean anything against Pacquiao, dude fights much more terrifying fighters than Spence in the past, this isn't something that scares him.

Only fanatic blinded political supporter will do that but the rest will still support MP like dilawans and some Filipino whose political view is not so dense. Just like what the user said above, Politics and sports should be treated differently. Many is carrying our flag for this fight and maybe his last fight for his boxing career. His attack to the president is not proven but I'm he has a lead before conclude on that which every people agree. PHILHEALTH and DOH is a department full of corruption on this time of Pandemic.

I will honestly not vote for him if he runs for President, and even being a Senator again, I might still not vote for him, however, sports are different, we look at his potential and I believe he will not be an 8th division champion if he is not good, and in everytime he fight, he unite the Filipinos.
