I don't want to badmouth or insult Pacquiao, but I think it may be better for him to concentrate on his career in politics. He is already 40 years old and I am afraid that the fight against Matthysse may be one-sided.

The Dude is done but i guess he can still sell a fight and make good money from his fame even though he might end up loosing so i think so long as he doesn't see anything wrong in tarnishing his reputation by loosing fights then we should leave him to make his money. It's good business dude!

That's the sad reality of boxing these days all for money, they seem to make matches like these to milk the money out of people but then considering their careers are short don't even know if one should blame them. Maybe he's going to use money to invest heavily in his political career since his boxing days are heavily outnumbered.

People really gets old and everything would be just in a history.
I've missed the time when everyone here in the Philippines are all excited to watch the upcoming fights of Pacquiao. All the family members easily recognizes the date and who's the opponent but now, turns like even my father and uncles have no idea that there would be a Pacquiao vs Matthysse fight. Well, I couldn't blame them because there are now less fight/preparation coverage on the national TV and newspapers unlike in the past.

Still, I'd love to see Pacman wins the fight. I hope that he will end his career with no consecutive defeats  Wink.

Yes. It used to be where all Filipinos are eagerly waiting for the next Pacquiao fan and every man in the streets knows when is the scheduled fight and even have their whole neighbourhood tune in and the world stops when he fought. And even my Father who is a big Manny fans wouldn't missed a fight. Sadly though he just passed away. Manny is no longer the cash cow and others have taken the spot from him. But we will never forgot how he transcends the boxing world specially for every Filipinos in the world.

I would never rule out Pacquiao from any fight and will always watch his fights, it was unfortunate to see him lose against that aussie guy last time. His 2 win streak was looking good after the Floyd fight. If he is in good physical condition he can keep doing it for a while. I see him still kicking ass past age 40 if he stays in shape and active like Hopkins. But he has a very physical style, unlike Floyd which was able to slow down the pace of a fight and perform surgery on opponents. Pac may have difficulties with young prospects.
My favorite right now is Loma, but he has to still face bigger names to become a future hall of famer.

@bbc.reporter, it looks like @harizen has already point out the reason why Pacquiao is still fighting and would love to continue doing it.

@thejaytiesto, that lost to Jeff Horn is just a fluke, anyone who have watch it will not agree to the judges. We really like Pacquaio to fight, however, father time is really catching up on him. His fighting style will be a big factor specially if you are aging as compare to Floyd who is very defensive, while Pacquiao loves to bang. Loma and Crawford are the new cash cow of boxing.
Loma vs Crawford would be epic, but Loma vs Mickey more realistic. Crawford is too big for Loma, but so was Loma for Rigo and the fight happened... I think Loma could bulk 10lbs and fight Crawford at 140 but he may not take the risk.

I agree. Loma vs Crawford would be epic except that Crawford is already campaigning at the 140-147 lbs already. I don't think that Loma can go as high as Welter at this time. Mickey been calling out Loma if I'm not mistaken so let's see if those 2 fight. Its more realistic as you have said, and if the money is right, we might see them fight in 2019.

I would agree except that we don't know what's on Manny Pacquiao's mind specially that boxing is his first love to say the least. And I'm pretty sure that he is doing good in politics as well but the fight against Matthysee will not be one-sided. He wanted to redeem himself against the lost to Jeff Horn that he is really training hard this time to prove to everyone that he still has it, to compete at top level boxer and be the champion once again.

It's gonna be a close fight, but my money is on Lucas Matthysse.

I am not the person that do not want Pacquiao to fight any bouts but he has his age now. He might be still strong as hell but his reflexes, his speed will not be the same as in the past. They might be close at their ages but I think from the last fight Pacquiao has, I guess it is time for him to hang the gloves and start to focus on giving his full service for the people as he is a Senator of our country.

I have a question for Manny fans or the Filipinos. This was asked by someone before but it gave no definite answer.

Manny Pacquiao is a senator in the Phillipines that would maybe make him more money, legally or illegally, than boxing. Why does he continue to do it? Is he in debt? I heard he spends and gambles too much. A common mistake among superstar athletes, I reckon.

He already have lots of money prior in entering the Senate so I don't think he will earned lots of money just because of it. Take note that some of his contribution in the community are came from his own pocket.

Is he in debt? No way. He is currently the second richest senator in PH. He have lots of businesses and investments. Jinkee, his wife is known to be good at money saving and budgeting their funds. We all know that their family is poor so they are really good in terms of money saving.

Why he continue to fight? I said this before, it's hard to left the sport that makes him where he is now. It's passion and as long as he knows that his body is not yet on his limit, then he will continue. At first, I do want him to retire but now Im understand him much better.

Legacy is not what matters for him now even he will loss in his upcoming fights. He is happy doing boxing and that's it.

“I love this sport and until the passion is gone, I will continue to fight for God, my family, my fans and my country,”

I don't think that being a Senator in the Philippines will made him a lot of money. Well, as far as gambling, there was reported that he totally turn his backs against it. I remember that there was reports that he sold all his cockfighters already. And I don't think he is in debt as well. The only reason why I think he is wants to box is that he wanted to prove that he is still the same Manny we have known, fast, quick hands and heavily handed specially his left. That's why he chooses Matthyse which is very dangerous, but if he can give us a good show then Manny will continue to fight, in my opinion.
I don’t think he will be ever in debt, because of the millions that he earns in his fights. It’s obviously that Manny is getting old and not focusing on just one thing at a time but he has never been the same before. After all, it’s going to be an interesting fight.

Everything is just a rumour, we will never know the truth unless the person announces it.

I didn't heard that he is gambling because he is in a Christian community and he is a very religious person inside and outside of the ring. You are right that he is the Senator in the Philippines, he is preoccupied already. Maybe the reason why he is fighting is he wants to help his people in his province, Saranggani although I don't see any evidence in this.

Regarding to the fight, I don't really know how Matthysse fights but I think he will win in a decision. I am a Pacquiao fan but his speed now is not like his 5-6 years ago. Now he is slower and no news that he is training in a gym or whatsoever. Anyway, I will just watch it.

Payment Gateway Allows Recurring Payments
Anybody know why this fight was delayed? I thought it was scheduled for June, but looks like it's been pushed back another month.

Pacquiao is already closing in on 40, let's not make it any worse! That being said, it looks like he'll have some problems against Lucas, he's been out of the game for a while, and Lucas has performed very well recently. Looks like a 50/50 fight.

Why does he continue to do it?
Something lies with his passion and it's his main career before so it's not easy to leave it.

Is he in debt?
No he doesn't have any debt to pay if there's any maybe a debt of gratitude.

I heard he spends and gambles too much. A common mistake among superstar athletes, I reckon.
He don't gamble, he's boasting his Christian life and he's a good follower so it's impossible for him to gamble(or we just don't see it).

I don't think Senator Manny have problems with gambling. As a Senator, he earns a monthly salary of about $2,194.67. Top Ranks Bob Arum says that Manny have problems with the IRS and that's one of the reason why he is not fighting in the US. Aside form that he has a lot of projects like housing projects for those who are affected by the previous calamity. He also sponsors students to go to school and free boxing training too. All of those cannot be covered by his monthly salary.

That's his past life mate, and with the current status of Manny's relationship with people including with his favorite sport; I think hes wasn't committing any gambling bets as form of entertainment. Right now he's doing his job as a senator and this sports boxing was his hobby, and regarding that debt you're talking about its not true since Manny was now also a business man holding many businesses around the entire Philippines.
The current match that he's going to fight with is his another journey in boxing and I understand its hard for him to quit boxing, because it's his passion. So hopefully he will be winning this another fight with Matthysse.
