The fighting Senator of the Philippines Manny Pacquiao announced that he is fighting this coming June 24 at Malaysia. The possible opponent is Lucas Matthysse the current WBA light welterweight champion.

For those of you who is not familiar with Lucas Matthysse below is his Boxing Record

Total fights - 44
Wins - 39
Wins by KO - 36
Losses - 4
No contests - 1

What we know so far is Freddie Roach has not committed himself yet to train Manny for this fight. Bob Arum is the the promoter for this fight, it will be De la Joya's Golden Boy Promotions and Manny's MP Promotion.

Earlier it known that Manny was asked to be an under card for Jeff Horns fight but Manny rejected the offer. There were also rumors that Manny can't fight in the US like in Las Vegas because he has issues with the IRS "again".

This fight is so interesting especially for Manny Pacquioa who never fought for almost a year and so busy on his political life as Philippine Senator, I do hope to see more action on the boxing ring.

By the way did you know that Senator Manny Pacquioa would launch his own crypto currency you can read the details here.

Here's an update about this upcoming fight. We all know already that Freddie Roach will not join the training camp of Senator Manny Pacquio for this fight. Aside from Buboy Fernandez, Senator Manny added Dodie Boy Peñalosa and Jon Peñalosa and in the team plus Nonito Donaire Sr (father of Fil-Am boxer Nonito Donaire Jr.) was also tapped to help Senator Manny to prepare for his fight with Matthysse.

Ok. So it looks like Manny have added experience inside and out of the boxing arena (Dodie Boy) so its pretty much solid specially with the addition of Nonito Senior. So Manny is serious to about this one. Maybe we can see Manny throwing left hooks if just like Nonito Jr. hehhehe.

Pacman is going to completely destroy Mattysse, people seem to think that just because Pacquiao has gone into politics that somehow he's not a beast anymore. The guy has an amazing record. He barely lost to the GOAT mayweather, so I really don't see him having much of a challenge in this fight. It will probably go the distance, but it should be a UD.

I don't think that Manny will "completely" destroy Matthysse, it will be very competitive because we all know that Lucas has its own power, Maybe we can see Manny and Cotto all over again, fighting toe-to-toe in the first 3 rounds until Manny hits Cotto and the complexion of the game changes.

Lucas Matthysse age is 35 while Manny Pacquiao 39 although Manny Pacquiao is older he has more experience than Lucas im not saying that lucas can't really make it but as far as i know Manny Pacquiao is too old for boxing his moves are different that before those punches he throws . Well his totally fast hope that he can make it this . About horn its really obivioius that they cook the fight. Manny Pacquiao is the best boxer from philippines as he train maybe he will win this fight.

While I know Manny as one of best fighters in the world of boxing, I still believe it was best for him to retire during his prime- definitely he is no longer at his prime right now. He could have exited with all praises for him rather than quit at a time he was even considered to play an under card match. I mean, how pathetic can this situation be? I don't ever want to see his star wither along with his age while losing to a now better and younger fighter. I mean, can I get a yes to this?

Nevertheless, I am still banking on a hope that he could bring home the bacon this time around. I am and will always be ALL for Manny. And this, as long as I can remember.
Manny will still be considered one of the best, he was even recognized as the fighter of the decade if I remember it correctly. I haven't seen anyone though retiring at his prime because the call to fight and get accolades will still knocks on boxers just like Roy Jones. Well we can said that to Oscar dela Hoya as well. He shouldn't fight Manny then because he doesn't have it anymore, but he decided he can go dance with the young Manny then so the torch is passed to Manny. But it seems that its Manny is at the same foot as Oscar is before, and there will be a time that Manny will realized that its really time to retire when he will be beaten by a young and upcoming fighters like Terence Crawford or Vasyl Lomachenko.

Everyone has been telling that it's now time for him to retire if I could just speak in front of him and bring every words that the fans are saying to him right here. But I'm sure of that he already received such suggestions of retiring especially from her wife.

Nevertheless, I am still banking on a hope that he could bring home the bacon this time around. I am and will always be ALL for Manny. And this, as long as I can remember.
Right now, we just have to hope for the best and see if it's possible for him to retire soon.

"I picked a dangerous opponent in Matthysse. He's a champion but I do believe that we can box him and control the fight," said Pacquiao.

Pacquaio is right and he is not bragging that he can't beat easily Matthysse.

Out of confusion on how this Matthysse style of fight, I watched some his highlights and the best one I saw is this:

Lucas Matthysse vs Ruslan Provodnikov ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DeKs5hS-k8 )

That is one the best Junior Welterweights battle I have watched. Matthysse won the fight via majority decision.

Yes, it was a beautiful fight. Matthysse took the first few rounds, but Ruslan come back in the latter and knock down Lucas in 11th if I'm not mistaken but he lost that fight. Lucas gave everything against that granite chin of Ruslan and he took it resulting in his face swollen as hell. (ruslan though easily cuts, that is his main issue though).

That's why Lucas in his prime, but I think he can still give the same performance against Pacquiao as he is really one of the hardest puncher out there. So it going to be exciting fight.
I have hesitation on whether Pacquiao will win this fight. Manny's loss to that Australian boxer should be the trigger point for Manny Pacquiao to retire and hang  his gloves. He is a sure Hall of Famer and i hate to see him lose again if ever. The speed and footwork that i love about Pacquiao is no longer there. I hope i am wrong when the fight happens.

Do you really think that Manny lost to Jeff Horn? Based on the Compubox Twitter account, Manny outlanded Horn 11 out of the 12 rounds. I don't know how he lost. Its clearly a robbery. So don't consider his last fight the trigger point just because technically lost. But other stats and boxing pundits here will say that Manny hands should be raised that day. Well he wasn't at this best that time, but given that fact he still should win that fight.
You guys should stop arguing about Manny's last fight. He already lost, although questionable we should move on.

Regarding his fight with Mattysse, this fight will really gives us a preview as how Manny's fighting condition, both physically and emotionally are. Yes, he chooses a dangerous opponent and he gets KTFO then we can say that its really time to reconsider hanging up his gloves. But if he won, convincingly, I have no doubt that he will continue to fight maybe around 2 more money fights before finally saying it quit.

I share the same views to some extent because Manny seems to be done a long time ago but what if he manages to win this one? It means he can keep making a few more bucks before he finally hangs his gloves and if he looses i guess it will signal the end to him better than anything else  so lets leave him to test his strength but i wish  for his hard-earned reputation he stayed away from fighting  again.

"I picked a dangerous opponent in Matthysse. He's a champion but I do believe that we can box him and control the fight," said Pacquiao.

That's what I like about Pacquiao, not bragging his achievement as basis that he can overthrow an opponent.

And you know what's the interesting part of this statement? He is the one who chooses his own opponent, away from the shadow of his former promoter Bob Arum who just picks and picks and picks any boxer. Since under contract, no way Manny will just argue for the selected boxer that will placed on fight.

Matthysee is a solid fighter and hope that he can bring up the old style of Manny Pacquiao.

It is just me or both of the fighters really looks old,

https://www.boxingscene.com/photos-manny-pacquiao-lucas-matthysse-go-face-face--127283

Lucas Matthysse is the younger fighter between the two but he looks like the older way older. Maybe I hasn't followed his fights lately that's why I was quite surprised to see him this way.

Because of the hairy characteristics of South Americans or even the Americans itself, they are looking more matured than Asian people, well based on my observation. Just look at NBA players, around 18 or mid 20's looks like an early 40's here in our country.

P.S Hey I don't mean anything here.

Previously when he was still under Bob's Arum management, he can't really pick his opponent because the team wanted to "cherry-pick" his opponent to make him really good, although its really hard to see Manny banging up with big guys at at 147 lbs and above specially Margarito who is almost a full Middleweight to Super Middle when all hydrated.

Going back to Lucas, yeah maybe he looks older because Asians tends to look younger than their actual age. Maybe Lucas was still out of shape or not on fighting form that's why I observed that he is just a tad older looking than Manny. But its all good man, I truly understand what you are saying here.

Love what I read here:

I found a good article about the supposedly divorced of Manny and coach Freddie.

https://ph.yahoo.com/sports/freddie-roach-isnt-mad-things-ended-manny-pacquiao-just-disappointed-005848468.html
There's nothing that shows the link.

But when I googled it this showed, http://sport360.com/article/other/boxing/277134/manny-pacquiao-says-no-decision-on-trainer-yet-and-denies-rift-with-coach-freddie-roach

Let's wait until Manny contacts him few more months before the fight and he needs to be trained but if this never happens, their long time tied up will be gone.

Weird. I also try to access the link today and it was not there as well. It just points me back to the default yahoo homepage. Sorry about that mate.

“If Manny would have called me and told me what he wanted to do, it would have been a perfect ending, but I learned a long time ago life is not perfect,” Roach said. “If there is anything I’m disappointed in about this, obviously, it’s that I had to read it in the newspaper and I didn’t hear it from Manny first. That stings a little, and it’s disappointing, but there are no hard feelings.

I'm not aware that Coach Roach utter this nor any articles about this issue.

Well, Manny might have his own reason but his justification to further, in this case, I think is useless. Damage has been done and decisions are already final (I guess, not unless MP would call roach at the last minute). Too bad for Coach Roach, but we can't blame MP for this (not because I'm a fan) he has the right to chose his trainer and teammates but rather than it's still heartbreaking in the other side.

On the brighter side (I guess), Buboy was in Manny's team for a long a time, He must have known Pacquiao's style and I hope he could train him as good as Roach nor much better.

Right, Buboy has been with Manny even before Roach becomes the head trainer of Manny. And I sure that he had learn a lot from Roach. Just sad though to see them separated when Manny is in the twilight of his career. But I'm sure that they can't just each other and sooner or later they might patch things and settle everything outside of the boxing arena.
