^^David Benavidez has move on from chasing Canelo at least for this May or this year. He decided to move up in Light Heavyweight and I think it's a good decision. He is tall and even at 175 lbs, I think he will still be as fast and a more heavier fighter.

And obviously, if he wins this fight, he will be facing the winner of the Beterbiev vs Bivol fight.

So after that unification fight, either one of them will have to face the Mexican Monster next. And Benavidez can go back to 168 lbs if he wants to so he is still open for a Canelo fight, but the decision is beyond his control. WBC PBC can't force Canelo right now to fight him. Obviously, he is out of PBC by now and be fighting a lesser opponent next in Berlanga.

Benavidez will have a better legacy if he beats the winner of Bivol and Beterbiev. Canelo, although not yet at retirement age, seems like he is looking for a safer fight, probably doesn't want to experience his loss against Bivol anymore. That's why boxers like him can't be considered as great like Manny, who despite his age, still chooses the best and is not afraid to fight. Well, good luck to Benavidez in case he faces the winner of the Bivol vs Beterbiev fight. I'm sure it would be the toughest fight of his career, especially if he's up against Beterbiev.

WBC will actually bring together David Benavidez vs Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the clash for interim light heavyweight title and in this fight we will clearly see who can win in less time or TKO.
David Benavidez 28-0, 24 KO will meet former light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk 20-1, 16 KO, the difference in their fighting styles can be seen more clearly and Benavidez is of course really fighting to win this fight to be able to move up division .
Many boxing fans really want to see Benavidez fight Canelo but there are several reasons why this fight didn't happen and Canelo himself has fight scheduled for May 4 but it is not clear who his opponent will be because there is no official confirmation yet.
David Benavidez vs Oleksandr Gvozdyk will take place next June and we will see how Benavidez can get the interim WBC light heavyweight title in their fight, he will really be the favorite because Gvozdyk himself has also stopped fighting for quite long time due to injury.

^^ What is David Benavidez leaves PBC and join Eddie Hearn and DAZN just to chase Canelo? Similar to what GGG did just to get his fight with Canelo back then?

That would be a huge blow to PBC. Benavidez is their most promising star after Canelo left, Spence was badly exposed, and Tank has no interest in fighting elite competition. In order to salvage what is left of their company it would require Al Haymon doing something which he’s always been against, which is playing nice with other promoters and doing what’s best for the sport. At his age it will be hard to break those old habits but I see no other choice with the best in-house options they have for Benavidez being a faded Gvozdyk and an unknown, unproven Morrell.

The big money fights are Canelo, Bivol, Beterbiev and to a lesser extent Munguia. None of those are with PBC. When Haymon had the power and leverage he chose to freeze out Crawford, Andrade, and prevented Wilder from fighting Joshua. With his influence starting to wither, other promoters might choose to repay the favor and freeze Haymon’s fighters out until they leave PBC and sign with them.

^^ Good advise from Reynoso as well, he is not just a simply trainer for Canelo, he acted as a advisor as well so Reynoso might really see that Benavidez is a real threat for his prize pupil and they don't want to destroy his image as this point as they have made one mistake on Bivol.

And after that, Canelo or his team are very picky, John Ryder and Charlo, LOL. So no David Benavidez for him this year and keeping Canelo away from Benavidez. Berlanga this May and then Munguia this September will be the likely schedule and boxer that Canelo will face this year.

While it is clear that Canelo at this stage of his career is trying to cherry pick, PBC also has no money and has no network backing capable of guaranteeing a huge purse. And if PBC wanted Mungia, that's a GBP fighter. DAZN is the network of GBP and it has a case to just steal Canelo from PBC and bring him back to the network probably via Matchroom.

For me, the corrupt WBC under the leadership of Mauricio is to be blamed. It's playing games and is trying to convince the casuals that it is reliable. It's simple, just issue a deadline for both Canelo and Benavidez to reach a deal. If there is no deal then issue a date for the purse bid and if Canelo is not participating then simply strip him of the title. End of story.

True, and as this point of Canelo's career, David Benavidez is a bad stylistic match up for Canelo and that's why he and his camp chooses not to fight the bigger and hungrier and has power, not just volume punching like Bivol, but has true power that can break Canelo's chin and that's why they have to avoid him like a plague, hehehe.

So I think the risk free journey for him is Berlanga, Munguia is a Oscar Dela Hoya fighter so there could be issues with the negotiation and so there could a complicated one specially purse split and network offer.

It's not about the money, Canelo was offered as per reports,

$45 Million for Charlo
$55 Million for Spence at 164 lbs
$65 Million for Benavidez

Maybe this is his and Eddie Hearn plans after all, feel sorry for Tom Brown and the PBC for falling for Canelo's trickery here.

That's a purse a boxer could not resist, so I'm wondering why Canelo has choosed the lowest purse.

Canelo vs Jermall Charlo 4th May 2024 in Las Vegas
|This is already confirmed, right?

People would be more interesting if he'll choose to fight a boxer that could give him a decent challenge. If the fans would choose, for sure they'll want Benavidez for him, so not only he'll cash out a huge paycheck but it would also lift his legacy more if he wins.

Not sure about that as there are news that Canelo has cut ties with PBC after just 1 fight on this contract. Maybe it includes that he can go out if he doesn't want the fight that he is being offered by PBC.

And we thought that he will be fighting David Benavidez, and that's what PBC wanted for him. But he says no, and with that he might be looking for Berlanga and work with Match Room boxing. But let's hear it from them as for sure they will make it official in the next following days.

And it just shows that even the WBC or PBC can't forced Canelo on who to fight too. Could be the reason as well why him and Oscar separated years ago, but in the end, he can't escape Benavidez if that is what he wanted.

Berlanga will be the likely next boxer he will face, not Mexican, but Puerto Rican and so they can used the tagline again of Mexico vs Puerto Rico.

And Berlanga won his recent fight, https://www.bbc.com/sport/boxing/68396219

For sure though, Canelo will take a lot of heat and fans will disapproved this decision of Canelo to move out from PBC and then face soft opponents.

I watched Berlanga’s fight over the weekend and was not impressed. McCrory was an awful opponent who couldn’t defend himself and had barely any technical ability in his offense. Somehow it got sanctioned as a title eliminator by the shady WBA at the last moment, which makes me think Eddie Hearn was aware of Canelo’s plans of leaving PBC and is trying to line up Berlanga for him.

He could be well aware, but still everything boils down on Canelo here. I guess his ego is too big for him now that he simply wanted to go out of PBC because they want him to fight Benavidez or doesn't want to give him Charlo for easy fight for him.

Berlanga is a easy opponent, I do agree, and everything is corrupt in boxing right now, they are in for the money.

Eddie Hearn is also in the social media right now, and him and Canelo could have been cooking something here and most likely released a statement next week as who will be Canelo's next opponent.

But they won't stripped Canelo, Mauricio will not do that to Canelo. And they could be playing the fans as well, but it seems there will be no Canelo vs Benavidez and WBC will force that mandatory fight. And probably this is one reason why Showtime exit boxing programming, they are losing money, and if I'm not mistaken, PBC has a deal with Amazon Prime Video and or working as well with DAZN for a exclusive deal? So we will see, Canelo is already cherry picking his opponents, doesn't want to take that risk with Benavidez. Time is running out for him as who will be his next opponent this May.

What started as a rumor is now being confirmed by ESPN. Canelo is leaving PBC. Canelo was insisting on fighting Jermall Charlo but PBC wanted a better quality opponent. It is likely Canelo will go back to DAZN, where he will be safe from Benavidez and fight softer opposition like Munguia and Berlanga.

And here's the news,

https://twitter.com/MikeCoppinger/status/1762137052517200225

And that's what we thought, he went to TV Azteca in Mexico and everyone is glued to their TV waiting for announcement as who is his next opponent. So no Mexican for him, hehehe, so Munguia and Benavidez is not in the sweepstakes. So it just leave Charlo for Canelo, good money, have some storyline, but we fans are not sold to it. And perhaps PBC is pressuring Canelo to fight Benavidez, but then again, huge risk and partly because I think Canelo doesn't want Benavidez to be the next Mexican superstar.

I do not understand, there is only Charlo as the only choice for Canelo? However, the message shared by Mike Coppinger clearly said there will not be a fight organized for Canelo vs. twin brother Charlo because there is low demand for this.

@Dave1. I reckon if David Benavidez chases Canelo to DAZN then Canelo might go back to Golden Boy and agree to fight this Munguia and kill the hype hehehe.

Before the problems with Oscar, Canelo also had legal problems with All Star Boxing who is a small promotion from Florida that promoted some of Canelo’s early fights. There was also that dispute with the WBC when they tried to make him fight Golovkin, who was his mandatory. He also had problems with Televisa, which led him to defect to TV Azteca. It is a pattern of entitlement and seeking special treatment which unfortunately the promoters, sanctioning orgs, and tv networks keep going along with.

Canelo might be looking to retire in the next couple of years if he is just looking for a soft opponent like Berlanga check. The lost against Bivol might have put a lot of mental strained in him and we could say that he is no longer the same Canelo. He won against GGG, but it's it's no longer the same GGG that he fought the first time. And Canelo chooses John Ryder next, we all know what happen to that fight, it happened in Mexico but fans are disappointed. Then next is Jermell Charlo a career 154 lbs, who moved up 2 weight class. And he wanted to fight the Jermall, same, will have to move up from 160 - 168 lbs, doable, but PBC disapproves it. They wanted Canelo to fight David Benavidez but Canelo doesn't want to so he leaves PBC.

Benavidez Sr as well said that they were offered to fight Canelo, but at a bare minimum of $5 million. And he says that maybe they are just testing them to see if they are going to request for more money. So they said "Yes", to it, but unfortunately, the camp of Canelo didn't return back so it's obviously it's a bait.

And as we have been speculating as well, it's clearly a duck from the camp of Canelo not to fight Benavidez, again and again as stories are coming out. Now, with DAZN, easy fight for Canelo against this two and then the money will be there, less risk better reward.

The WBC president uncle Mauricio has also appeared to change his mind on David Benavidez's next opponent.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said this Thursday through his social networks that David Benavidez's next opponent will not be Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez as had been said in recent hours, and that the interim light heavyweight championship will be disputed by the American fighter of Mexican descent and the Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

Source https://www.marca.com/en/boxing/2024/02/23/65d896bdca47411a698b45b4.html

They are having a hard time keeping their story straight. Whatever comes out of the mouth of Sulaiman is likely just damage control. They don’t want to upset Canelo because they don’t want to lose their percentage of his purse. They will most likely continue to allow Canelo to evade Benavidez for as long as he pleases.

I don’t believe the $55 million offer was real. It’s just something that Lewkowicz put out there to get some publicity for Benavidez’ next fight. Sampson’s word isn’t very credible and he’s defaulted on purse bids before so where would he even get that kind of money to offer Canelo. PBC isn’t getting much of a budget from Amazon if all their cards are going on PPV, so Haymon can’t make those kind of guarantees either. It would be more money than what Canelo made against GGG, Canelo vs. Benavidez isn’t close to that magnitude.

The speculation on the boxing organizations and promoters working with Canelo and to favor him will not be very shocking, I reckon. However, the question is on Canelo and his integrity as a boxer. This is why he is not in the argument on who is the real goat of boxing.

In any case, this article gives a much clearer wording on the speculation on Mauricio Sulaiman and on the protection on Canelo.

As the March deadline approaches, has WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman played a role in helping the undisputed super-middleweight world champion, Canelo Alvarez, avoid a fight with David Benavidez?

The Cinco de Mayo weekend is a traditional fight weekend for Canelo Alvarez, but as of now he doesn’t have an opponent. Boxing fans and boxing pundits were pressing for David Benavidez to fill the open slot, but WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has found a way to take Benavidez out of the equation.
