Well, I believe that for the majority of Russians, even those who don't frequent bitcointalk, they are already very used to having to use Tor and VPN for their online activities.

That is a good practice. Probably because they have a lot of restrictions. I have heard that China has a lot of restrictions as well. I was watching a travel vlog a few weeks ago, the vlogger was having a hard time finding his hotels in China because people do not speak English and his Google map was not working. He had a couple of VPNs installed in his devices which were not working as well.

Let's get back to the main topic, If the majority of Russians are already used to using VPNs and Tor, then I don't think we have to worry about their activity. They will utilize those tools to access the forum when they notice they cannot access it with clear internet.

That's indeed weird. Would be interesting to hear some members from Russia how are things actually working now regarding that.
I always thought BitcoinTalk was banned in Russia. I don't know the current situation, but I guess I have seen something like a year ago or so that people from Russia cannot access BitcoinTalk without using a VPN. Probably they unbanned it later and now banned it again. I guess most Russian users use TOR to access the forum.

Unfortunately, it won't just be because of Bitcoin or casino ad.

Thanks for the stats Rikafip.
When you will work on next month's stats, you will notice the activity of my local thread drastically decreased. Once again, It is Learn Bitcoin to blame. I just quoted my one-year-old post and then there was silence! I talked to some of them. I hope they will stop doing what they were doing.

It was because of moderation.
You know what they say, be careful what you wish for.  Grin

Maybe its for the better than we didn't get a new mod in Croatian local board after Lauda stepped down.

But when I use a VPN and set it to Russia IP just now, I was still able to access this forum. I do not know how that should be possible.

I am not a newbie. In fact, you can see that my merit received on my general boards posts are many. I am only implying that quality is very important, not only newbies. Also focusing so much on newbies is kind of suspicious.

I didn't skip any of your posts on purpose and I barely see you on threads I post on. This discussion is sounding like merit begging and it's off-topic. I'm out of Rikafip space. Sorry Rik!

By the way, since you are very active in your local board, how come Nigerian post numbers dropped so much? I mean, they are still pretty good but at the beggining of the year you had 3k+ posts in a month, and now its down to littlem bit over 1k. What hapened exactly?
It was because of moderation. I got some of my posts deleted, although were old posts. Some other people will experience that and decide to reduce their posting activities. Also at start of his moderation, there were some new posts that were unnecessarily deleted but now it is better.

They banned it years ago and if I remember it correctly, it was something about gambling advertisment that is going on here. So now all Russian members have to use VPN in order to access bitcointalk. Considering that, their numbers are pretty impressive.
This is true: Bitcointalk has been blocked in Russia because of Gambling advertisement

But when I use a VPN and set it to Russia IP just now, I was still able to access this forum. I do not know how that should be possible.

Is that the reason I was unable to receive just 1 merit from you on monthly basis? Hmmnnn!

I am always surprised that despite the significant reduction of my posting on Nigeria local board, I am still the highest monthly poster. Only what Igebotz could post was that I am posting on the local board to let people to notice me and to fulfill my signature weekly posts requirement. He also started lying about me.

Nigerian local board is on the right path, my source aren't enough
Your merit per post ratio is pretty decent already, but no reason not to be even higher if you don't have much spam and if you have many members that are still climbing the rank. In my local board, latter is the problem.

Has the Russian government banned access to the bitcointalk forum? Huh
What was the invented reason this time?

Once again Russian board has been by far the most active one, despite the ban and need to use VPN in order to access bitcointalk, while Turkish board kept their 2nd spot, with Nigerian board climging up to the 3rd sport (up from 5th) while on the bottom we have the usual suspects; Polish, Indian and Greek local boards (Romanian board is usually there too, but this time they were more active).

Has the Russian government banned access to the bitcointalk forum? Huh

Its unusal to see joker_josue out of top 3, so let's see if he makes it back next month (even though he still wrote very respectable 200 posts).

I was on vacation. Despite not having been away from the forum, I had less time available.

Although October is better, activity in the Portuguese tab is a little low, which makes it less active. But there are still a few days left until the end, we'll see what happens.

@Rikafip, you always have a nice stat about local boards. It is good we always have you on this forum.

Nigerian local board is on the right path, my source aren't enough, the X number of posts are way more than my X number of generated source. There are too many good profiles still lacking merits, I tried as much as possible to cover at least 60-70% monthly.  Thanks Rikafip

Here it is, another brief monthly obverview of the local boards activity and this time for September 2024. As usual, all charts and table are made using data from @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan, Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards as of yet, but I do hope that's something that will change in the near future, as it happened with Nigerian board.

Post activity per local board during September 2024

During September, 13566 posts were made across 18 local boards that are part of this overview which is a slight increase compared to August (13150) which is kinda expected as summer is over and people are spending more time inside at the computer (at least I know I am).

Active members per local board during September 2024

During last month, 1281 member wrote at least 1 post in one of the local boards which is a slight increase compared to August (1268). Small increase, but the important one. As always, Russian board has by far the most amount of active members, followed by Nigerian and Indonesian local boards, while on the other side, Greek and Polish were once again below 10 acive members, even with last month's increase.

Local board members per amount of posts during September 2024

When it comes to the members who wrote only 1 post, French local board is way ahead the others with a very high 60%, followed by Russian (50%) and Portuguese (38%) local boards, while on the other hand Pakistan has the lowest percebtage of such members (8%), followed by Romanian (12%) and Bengali (17%) local boards.

In the 2-9 posts bracket leader is Croatian local board with 65% of such members, followed closely by Romanian (64%) and Nigerian (60%) local boards. At the bottom of this bracket there is Portuguese local boards  with 14%, followed by Italian (27%) and  Turkish (29%) local boards.

Regarding the 10+ posts bracket, leader is Pakistam wheere exactly half (50%) of the active members wrote 10+ posts, followed closely by Portuguese (48%) and Italian (47%) local boards. In the same bracket, Indian local has the lowest percebtage of such members (11%), followed by Russian (14%) and Croatian (15%) local boards.

Merit shared per local board during September 2024

In the last month, 5794 merit was shared across 18 local boards, which is a slight decrease compared to month before (August, 6066).

Considering the small increase in the amount of posts, I expected more merit shared, but it didn't happen. Since decrease is not so big, not all local boards had the fewer merit sent, and some like Turkish and German even managed to increase it, while Russian board rewmained at the top despite the decrease and I don't see anyone threating them in the near future.

Merit/Post ratio per local board during September 2024

Last month's merit/post average across local boards was 0.44 which is a decrease compared to August (0.5 merit/post) which makes sense as number of posts went up while at the same time fewer amount of merit was sent.

What didn't change though is the local board at the top; Arabic once again with the highest ratio, but this time Pakistan and Bengali climbing at the very high 2nd and 3rd sport and I don't remember seeing them so high in the past. Its fair to say though some of the usual names (Spanish, Romanian) at the top had a big decrease, which helped some other names climbing higher.

Percentage of merited posts across local boards during September 2024

After several months of some of the local boards having very high percentage of merited posts, this time numbers are most realistic.

First time since |I make this chart Croatian is at the top, followed by Italian and Romanian local boards. There is a some change at the bottom  as well as  Pilipinas finally managed not to be among 2-3 local boards with lowest percentage and I hope they continue like that in the future as well.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during September 2024

During September, 465 members sent merit while 540 received which is not a big change compared to previous month (422/544) and once again both Nigerian and Indonesian local boards have more of their members sending and sharing merit than Russian, while only having a bit more than one third of their merit. Its so too unusual though, as Pilipinas boards regularly has high numbers despite low amount of merit.

Merit per transaction across local boards during September 2024

And in the end of this series of chart, merit per transaction one. Interesting here is that while French local board generally has a lower merit per post ratio, their merit per tx is consistently high, and also explains why they have the lowest percentage of merited posts last month.

The most active members per local board during September 2024

Last but not the least, list lof top 10 active member per local board. Once again at at the top its one of the members from Russian board and this time its Bits.media, follwed by  mandown from Turkish local board with 212 posts and another member from Russian local board, Nuburian with 209 posts. Its unusal to see joker_josue out of top 3, so let's see if he makes it back next month (even though he still wrote very respectable 200 posts).

Chart fans rejoice, time for yet another brief monthly overview of the local boards activity, and as promised a little bit earlier than last month.  Wink All charts and table are made using data from @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space while images are uploaded via TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk made by @joker_josue.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan, Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards yet and that's something that I hope will change soon.

Post activity per local board during August 2024

During August, 13150 posts were written across local boards which is a very slight increase compared to July's numbers (13009). Increase is negligent, but after a few months of decline any increase is a good sign and I hope it will continue now that summer is coming to an end.

Majority of local boards remained with relatively similar activity as month before, with the Nigerian board sticking out, unfortunately due decrease of activity that is going on for a couple of months. At the beginning of the year we were speculating whether they gonna overtake Russian, while now they dropped to the 6th place. Let's hope that's just temporary and that they will recover in the upcoming months.

Local Board post race

Animated local board post race chart, courtesy of bitmover

Active members per local board during August 2024

In the above mentioned period, 1268 members wrote at least 1 post in one of the local boards, which is a decrease compared to July (1342). This decrease may be surprising since number of posts even went up a little bit, but since its enough to write 1 pots to be counted in this chart, these kind of changes are normal.

Once again Russian board has by far the most active members, followed by Nigerian and Indonesian local board. Even though Nigerian activity keep going down a lot, their number of active members doesn;t go down as much, which is a very good thing and I hope it remains that way.

Local board members per amount of posts during August 2024

When it comes to the percentage of members who wrote only 1 post in their board during August, Arabic local board is rhe leader with exactly 50%, followed by Indian (47%) and Croatian (44%) local boards. At the same time, Pilipinas board hads only 21%, followed by Nigerian (24%) and Indonesian (25%) local boards.

Regarding the 2-9 posts bracket, Polish board is the leader with 63%, followed by Pilipinas (57%) and Nigerian (54%) locals. Regarding the locals with lowest percentage of members in that bracket, Portuguese local had only 15% of those members, followed by Croatian (25%) and Arabic (23%) local boards.

In the 10+ posts bracket, Greek is the leader with 67%, followed by Portuguese (50%) and Pakistan & Italian local boards that both had 36%. At the same time, Indian local had only 10% of such members, followed by Bengali (16%) and Romanian (17%) local boards.

Merit shared per local board during August 2024

During last month, 6066 merit was sent across local boards that are part of this overview which is a slight increase compared to month before (5919) and is consistent with a post number increase.

As in all other charts, Russian local board dominates here as well, followed by Indonesian, Nigerian and Italian local boards that are far behind. Uusal names are at the bottom as well, and while majority of them have very low post activity so low amount of merit is not a surprise, Pilipinas board is still decently active while still having a very low number of merit sent.

Merit/Post ratio per local board during August 2024

Last month's merit/post average across local boards was 0.5 which is a slight decrease compared to month before numbers (0.52). In the last few months we had local boards sticking out from the others, while during August, merit per post ratio was more in line with 12 month average. More or less, as Spanish board 12 month average is much higher than during last month, which was high anyway and we have a few local like French, German and Indian whose ratio went down significantly during last month. Hopefully that's just an anomaly and they will be back with their usual numbers.

Percentage of merited posts across local boards during August 2024

Once again Romanian board remained the leader in this category, followed by Spanish and Italian locals that are also usually among the local boards with the highest percentage of merited posts. Similar situation is at the bottom as well, with the usual names occupying left side of the chart.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during August 2024

During last month 422 members sent and 554 received merit which is somewhat similar to previous month's numbers (430/513). Just a reminder that order of local boards is set according to the amount of merit sent.

Merit per transaction across local boards during August 2024

Last but not the least in this series of charts, merit per transaction which shows how different each board is when it comes to merit sharing habits (which can also be affected by the amount of quality posts that each board has during certain month).

The most active members per local board during August 2024

And for the end of the overview, list of the most active members per local board. but essentially all are experiencing a downturn, including those that showed strong growth not too long ago, like the Nigerian board, for example.

I believe this is entirely happening due to the reason we ran out of interesting topics to make it as interesting discussions and other reason could be people moved to place like Reddit (situation of Indian board) and this has nothing to do with the market trend of bitcoin like in the past history.

So all we can do is now hope that bull season will bring more new people and a lot of naive questions to answer. Cheesy

Sorry for being lazy and not running the numbers myself (I might try do so if I don't get an answer), but has anyone checked what the long-term trend for the local boards (considering all of them) is? i.e. Do we have a tendency of people moving away from local sub-forums towards the general, English-speaking ones, or maybe it's the opposite?
I thought it was pretty obvious that there is a decline in local board activity, which also coincides with a decline in overall forum activity. Of course, some boards are more affected than others, but essentially all are experiencing a downturn, including those that showed strong growth not too long ago, like the Nigerian board, for example.

In a few months (in January) I will publish a yearly overview of local board activity (as I did in the last two years) which will make it easier to see how big the decrease is compared to the previous year.
