270% more posts compared to year earlier is indeed a massive growth, but what's even more important is that you said that your local board looks cleaner and that post quality increased. Having good numbers is of course important but imho what's even more important is to have quality discussions if you want to get your own local board any day.
Yes. I do not care if a group of people leave the community for their benefit. They were participating in the local community because they thought they could get some unfair advantage which they had already. A couple of accounts spammed the entire thread with copy-paste news and auto translations and did some merit abuse too. I had to step up and expose a few of them and luckily it worked. Several members didn't come back to the local thread after that. Some of them write once a week. They have used out thread to rank up and once they joined the signature campaign, they slowly left our thread. Never mind, we have a peaceful thread right now.

By the way, has anyone from your local board contacted theymos/cyrus lately?
No. We haven't contacted the admins. We have a old local board request thread which was created by BitcoinDream. The community bumped it time to time but then we decided to wait more and grow our community a little more. But, I guess the time has come already and we should create a new thread or update the old one.

I consider this as a massive growth. Bangladesh community was full of one-liners, spammers, and news copy-paste. Fortunately, things started changing after I posted it here and there. I have reported to two merit sources and asked them to review those guys carefully. I have threatened them by revealing all their abusive behavior and the result is impressive. Suddenly, everything stopped. The activity decreased a little bit but I don't think the community regrets that.

While majority of boards had decreased amount of posts last year, several boards managed to grow substantially, name Nigerian with almost 400% growth and Bangladesh with 270% increase.

Bang! I was the person encouraging my locals to write at least one post per day in our local thread. I followed this for a while until I noticed there was something fishy going on. So, I already knew that I had posted a lot and was likely to be the top poster of the year (by number). The community is growing every day and I hope we will have our local board at some point.

Congratulations to all members of this forum, for continuing to participate and maintain Bitcointalk as the main reference in the world of Bitcoin (and cryptocurrencies).
Let's see if you can keep the title of the most active local board member 3rd time in a row.

I don't know. I can't promise anything, with new projects emerging, time starts to get shorter.
But, I will continue to do my best.  Tongue

Very well done my friend.
Very nice overview. Thank you for this invaluable work, you made with great effort and great quality.
Cheers bud. 1 overview down, 3 more to go (yearly overview for my local board + 2 overviews for December 2023). Let's see if I can make all of them by the end of the month.

Local board rocks. Now we raised the bar and we need to keep the ball rolling in 2024!
Yep. Situation wasn't that bad considering the bear market and since 2024 should be better than 2023, I do expect better numbers.

I see some inconsistencies here.
I think I am pretty consistent with my inconsistencies Grin

A s far as the Italian board is concerned, we see ample room for improvement, and we are trying to fill this gap to the potential.

Like I did for 2022, I've decided to publish the overview for the last year as well. In the majority of charts I added 2022 data as well so we can get a better idea how boards progressed/regressed compared to year before.

All charts and tables were made using data from @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space. Communities marked with * don't have their own local board as of yet but I hope that by the time I make the next overview they will get their own (well deserved I might add) local boards so they can develop their communities further.

Post activity per local board during 2023

During the last year 214527 posts were made across 18 local boards/communities, which is decent increase compared to the previous year's numbers (193837). Like the last year, Russian board has been by far the most active one, followed once again by Turkish and German local boards.

While majority of boards had decreased amount of posts last year, several boards managed to grow substantially, name Nigerian with almost 400% growth and Bangladesh with 270% increase. With the bull market coming, hopefully 2024 numbers will be much bigger than the last year's one.

Active members per local board during 2023

During above mentioned period 5780 members wrote at least one post in one of the local boards which is a slight decrease compared to 2022 numbers (5960). Once again, Russian board had the most active members, followed by German and Nigerian local boards. Like with the post chart, majority of boards had the decreased amount of active members and the only sticking out is Nigerian board with ~230% increase.

And to get a little bit better overview of the situation, here is the chart with members divided by the amount of posts they wrote. As expected, in all local boards group 1-9 posts bracket dominates meaning majority of members are not reall regulars which is how it usually goes on other forums too.

Merit shared per local board during 2023

Even though number of posts decreased, that didn't happen with merit; during last year 93118 merit was shared across local boards which is a noticeable increase compared to 2022 numbers (71009). Naturally, many local boards had the increase of the amount of merit shared (especially the less active ones), but Indonesian had by far the biggest increase, from 4029 to 13237 which is 230% increase.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for 2023

Despite the drop of the post number and increase of the merits shared, merit/post ratio didn't go up as much as you would think. Once again Arabic had the highest ratio, followed by Romanian and Spanish local boards. While during last year's overview Indonesian board ended in in the bottom half, this time they managed to end up with the 4th highest ratio, while few other local boards had a big increase as well ((Indian, Bangladesh).

Merit senders and receivers per local board during 2023

During above mentioned period 1363 members sent merit while 1838 received, which is an increase compared to 2022 ( 1098 members sent merit, 1963 members received). Once again Pakistan and Bangladesh are missing from this chart as I only have the info for those who have local board status.

The most active members per local board during 2023

Last but not the least, the list of the most active members across local boards during 2023. Like in 2022, the most active one was joker_josue from Portuguese local board with 3310 posts followed by two members from Russian local board, Smartprofit (2921) and  Julien_Olynpic (1919). Gj guys, keep it up!

I was looking for these numbers per user, that is, how many posts each user made this year.
Its there in ninjastic.space and you can watch it live, just chose the timeframe and clicl on "User" tab. Last year ChartBuddy was the leader with 8258 posts while you were 5th with 5038 (2nd was not that far away, only ~500 posts so that's something that you can aim for in this year  Wink.

That was the way to get the information, thank you. The first is impossible, because it is a bot. But, the second is achievable.

I'll see how these first weeks of the year go, and then I'll see if I accept this challenge of coming second in 2024.  Tongue

Now I would like to take this opportunity to ask: is there any statistical place that indicates the number of total user posts this year?

Ninjastic.space reports that the forum has seen over 1.87 million posts since the beginning of the year, and this number is expected to reach around 1.9 million by the end of the year.

I remember seeing this somewhere, now I don't know if it was in some statistics processed at the end of a year or it was something "live".

Last year that number was ~2.6 million and year before that ~2.9 million that just confirms something we are all aware, that forum activity has been on the decline for years and with the mixer campaign ban I expect numbers to go down even more.

There's a general downtrend, but it's not like the decline in activity was constant year-on-year, i.e. 2022 was slightly better than 2020. But yeah, dropping below 2 million would be the worst result since 2012, so it's getting slightly concerning. But maybe it's just a natural cycle, Bitcoin is no longer a novelty and there are now plenty of other places it can be discussed, so bitcointalk is no longer the first place to go with any btc-related questions.

Mixed feelings on this. Surely less posts is not a bad thing per se. Just remember the merit system was introduced to reduce the number of posts (but increase the quality).

On the other hand, reducing activity too much is bad for the forum, which has already his own problems (outdated platform, attraction and retention of new users)

Maybe comparing the two years could be something interesting. But that might be a lot of work.
Not a bad suggestion, I'll definitely think about the ways I could do it. And yeah, it might mean more work but not too mjuch I think.

I'm really sorry for this, It was never my intention to make such a huge mistake. I know how it feels to be quoted unnecessary, I was just too excited to have tought of the effects of my action before taking them, please try to understand. I am generally apologizing to everyone one who must have gotten the notification of being mentioned by me. I am truly sorry guys. However thank Learn Bitcoin for the advice, I have learnt from this mistake.

Yes, I understood. This is not a huge mistake. But I appreciate your attitude and how you handled the criticism. There are some common things that you should keep in mind. Please never quote the entire thread and never quote the pyramid quote. The pyramid quote is when people quote multiple replies but those are unnecessary. When you want to say something about something, please quote the part you are replying to. This will look good. Whenever you see a big list of users and your username in it too, quote your name only and delete other usernames because they will be notified too if you quote them. We have a couple of users on our local thread who used to add @before usernames and mention multiple users in a post unnecessarily which is annoying. Anyways, thanks for understanding.
