You ignored Babar Azam in your list of great players who participated in U19 WCs. Cricket has lost its charm due to T20 leagues primary because of IPL. U19 is the gateway to your international cricket career. I remember we use to watch U19 WC finals but nowadays no one is broadcasting these matches.

From what I heard, Star Sports will be broadcasting some of the matches in India. For other countries the broadcasters are - Sky Sports in New Zealand and United Kingdom, Gazi TV in Bangladesh, Ten Sports in Pakistan, Fox Sports in Australia and SuperSport in South Africa. But I have no idea about how many matches will be shown live. The interest has gone down considerably. Just one more week to go before the opening, and there is hardly any coverage in the mainstream media or in the sports channels.

Main reason is too much cricket. All year we have t20 leagues plus icc tournaments there is hardly any interest left in U19 and domestic cricket. Trend these days is try to make it to any T20 league and from there players are picked for national team that play test and odi.

Cricket lovers watch all types of cricket. Also after the start of the under 19 world cup, we can see people discussion's on those matches on this forum too. This shows that there is still interest for under 19 world cup.

I am also following these matches. So far the Indian team looks quite strong and one of the favorites for lifting the cup.

Usman khawaja would love to tour Pakistan since he was born in Islamabad, Pakistan and moved to Aus later. The real point is whether CA will allow there team to travel to Pakistan or they will do something like NZ did last year? ENA countries (not SENA as South Africa has toured Pakistan) have serious issues in playing cricket in Pakistan.

It's just his personal opinion and as such doesn't carry much weight. First of all, Usman Khawaja is not a regular member of the squad. And even if he was one, he can only give suggestions to Cricket Australia in this matter. If the government agencies decide that Pakistan is not safe enough to travel, then CA is not going to get the clearance to do that no matter how hard they try. All that said, I would like to see SENA nations (and even India) touring Pakistan. The cricket fans in that country have been devoid of quality entertainment for quite some time.

@Sithara007 you’re absolutely correct his words carry very little value, and in the end Australian Government needs to give them the clearance, and I believe it won’t be an easy one so despite what’s being said, so we should be prepared for Australian B team or even cancellation of the tournament. Lastly India vs Pakistan won’t happen anytime soon, because of their political issues and that’s why I don’t see these two teams clashing with each other anytime soon.
Despite CA dodgy record in recent time, i'm hopeful that they would visit and keep their promise because they haven't tour anyone in last 3 years except England. Although if we look at their attitude towards last South African tour then things looks tough, they could even create covid situation drama along with security issue.

Did Usman Kahawaja mention anything like that in any interview or it is just your thoughts based on his birth/migration history? When boards do feel about security concerns, I guess no professional player will have different opinion than their boards.

"I feel it's very easy for players and organisations to say no to Pakistan, because it's Pakistan," Khawaja said in Brisbane. "I think the same thing would apply too, if it were Bangladesh. But nobody would say no to India, if they're in the same situation.
"Money talks, we all know that, and that's probably a big part of it. They keep proving time and time again through their tournaments that they're a safe place to play cricket. I think there's no reason why we shouldn't go back."

I think this very well answers your query.

For example, Afghanistan players now may prefer to participate in all possible T20 events world wide rather than visiting their native places. Still, everyone will love to play one their own soil and cannot be an exception but they must need to bind within their board rather than having different opinion.

The best quote i heard so far was from Usman Khawaja, he wanted to tour Pakistan and to give back to the Cricket community as the people are desperate to see a match live in their home soil for a long time and hence he wanted to tour Pakistan and majority of the players are now siding with the fact that they do not have any issues with the tour and that is promising.

Anyone followed the U19 world cup? Yesterday, there were two matches. Australia won the first match and defeated West Indies by 6 wickets. In the second match Scotland wasted an excellent chance to create an upset and in the end went down to Sri Lanka by 40 runs. At one point Sri Lanka were at 6/99, but then recovered to 218. And I have seen such incidents involving associate nations on many occasions. The lack of experience is the reason why these teams couldn't go on to win the matches, despite being in excellent situations to do so.

There is positive development for PCB as Pat Cummins the Aussie captain says his teammates are interested in touring Pakistan on March 3 this year but said will not force anyone to tour Pakistan. Australia is coming to Pakistan almost after 23 years. Recently NZ and England cancelled there tour to Pakistan due to security reasons.

@galambo you’re absolutely correct many player’s perform in the league, but fizzle out on the big stage hence they should be groomed and selected from these type of tournaments so they can perform continuously for their respective teams.

Cant say whether Aus can win from here or not, as match is once again delayed because of rain. But one thing is very clear that Aus are now in very comfortable position as they are now 241/6. England wasn't able to take advantage of dismissing top orders at early stage of innings. England wont mind another draw.

I remember the tine when unmukta chand was captain on india under 19 time that time I had a lot of craze of that world cup which india won in the final. But now really before reading this thread I was not even aware that u19 world is starting soon. May be before thete is too much cricket all around the world and because of that this is getting less media coverage.

Everyday we have some T20 league going on Lanka league, BBL and so on. Even leagues are no more popular among viewers anymore because of its excess. U-19 cricket is essential as it produce players that are available for national squad for longer period of time. Players picked just based on there leagues performance cant survive ODI and Test.

@StLucifer I too wasn’t aware that it was beginning, and after seeing this thread I came to know plus I barely have seen ads about it, maybe there’s not much demand for it. @galambo you’re absolutely correct many player’s perform in the league, but fizzle out on the big stage hence they should be groomed and selected from these type of tournaments so they can perform continuously for their respective teams.

Even earlier there is not much interest to view the U 19 or domestic cricket and earlier it was hard to get the match broadcasted, but now a days you get the live feed. If you are talking about players not showing interest in the U19 tournament then you are wrong, all the players who is in the Indian team or in the IPL got selected because of domestic performance or because of their U19 performance. Another than that there is no way to draft a player for the IPL Wink.

Have to agree. I remember the pace bowling duo Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi being picked by IPL franchises immediately after their stellar performances during the ICC U-19 World Cup of 2018. Almost half of the players from that squad managed to win IPL contracts. And the list includes - Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Riyan Parag, Ishan Porel, Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh. And for the squad for this year's tournament, I have high hopes on players such as Yash Dhull, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Vicky Ostwal and Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

Hardly anyone mentioned here about the upcoming U19 world cup (ODI format). It used to be one of the most high profile ICC events a decade ago. But as a result of the numerous T20 franchise leagues, I guess this event has lost it's sheen. This time also, 16 countries are participating (all the test nations except New Zealand, plus 5 associates - Canada, PNG, Uganda, UAE & Scotland).

Historically, some of the players who participated in this tournament went on to become legends in due course of time. Examples are Steve Smith, Virat Kohli (captained India during the 2008 U-19 World Cup), Josh Hazlewood, Chris Woakes, Ravindra Jadeja, Paul Stirling and Kane Williamson.
