On a side note, does merge mining cause a brand to lose its value? Forgive me, as I don't have any knowledge around this area. In other words, if DGB merge mines with DOGE, does it create more of an issue for DGB to become a standard in the crypto world since we are now under the DOGE umbrella? If so, I would not want to do that.

Nor would I. Merging dilutes a coin's identity and that translates into less brand awareness. In this world, being unique brings attention and in the crypto world, attention generally brings acceptance and value as long it is the right kind of attention.
I doubt the algo changes will do much in the long run, I hope I'm wrong BTW! IMO, what REALLY is needed, algo or not, is community support and continued marketing by the Devs. Unexpected change raises warning flags and scares people off.
Oh, and did I say marketing? Lets be clear, "if you build it they will come" DOES NOT work here. It's more along the lines of "if you build it and, work your asses off to promote it and, market it to every processing company and merchant you can think of, they will slowly trickle in"
Patience + hard work + dedication = payoff. Period.
I really like DigiByte, I think it can have a great future but, we must not loose sight of the road ahead. Personally, I plug Digibyte every chance I can everywhere possible. Honestly, I hold several coins that I believe have a future and I promote them all.
So, I'll keep mining and buying and we will see what comes of it. The current problem will be quickly forgotten what everything works again as long as the price doesn't bottom out in the mean time.
Hats off to the Devs and others burning the midnight oil to get this sorted out. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and that fits crypto-coins perfectly...
