Of course we need Altcoins to increase our Bitcoins because Bitcoin alone won't give that much returns than Altcoins because of small market caps. We also need some Altcoins for trading between the exchanges because Bitcoin is way slow and high fees.

Funny question as the mentioned are mainly used for value storage and/or currency. There is a big number of use cases apart from that. Have a look at projects like Factom, Walton or Wabi and see what they are doing. Then you have projects that could maybe exist without their own currency but are still very promising like Hacken or Cindicator. Eventchain for event ticketing is also looking good for me. Then there is the exchanges like Binance, Kucoin or Cobinhood.
obviously definitely need altcoins for other coin means doing short-term trading, because altcoins have very fast price changes so they will benefit in a short time, but will not be suitable as a long-term investment
