There is a bit of catch there in "..enjoying the work because all he is doing is something that he loves to do.". This might be for another discussion/thread, but having your passion become your job does not work at all sometimes. Imagine painting at your free time and doing it with your whole love in arts then now imagine painting under a specified deadline by your own boss.
I heard some horror stories of people losing their passion due to exhaustion to the said passion that they pursued.

In my software dev field, sometimes it is exhausting, sometimes it is not. I love debugging stuffs and all those exhaustion I felt goes away in an instant when I finally manage to debug the program or web app.

A commission-based job — easily. I'd prefer me having to earn more when I outperform and/or work harder rather than having a "safe" salary. It really depends on a case to case basis though; someone in a bad financial situation might want a stabler income especially if he/she sort of lacks the skills and connections.
If you want more security and receive stable income, then go for salary based job. But I actually see it as a limited source of income, so I chose commission based over salary based job. It’s not that I have some certain skills in expanding my sales, but it maybe it’s more challenging and it keep me more motivated to improve the skills that I have built in myself.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Salary-based work is safe, but no matter how hard the work we do, we will be paid by agreement. Meanwhile, commission-based work is profitable if we are able to pursue what the company is targeting, but maybe if the company's target is not achieved then we will be paid less than that. Maybe there should be a third option, yes, it's a job based on salary and commission, I'm sure everyone will be happy with this third option.  Grin Grin

this is a valid point - for more stability and job security one should go for the salary based jobs. But sometime people are in problem and they go for the commission based jobs too.
Sometimes people are aware of these things too but they have no choice but to go for commission based job.
Usually office type based jobs does really require high qualifications for you to get hired and to those commission based arent really that too strict when it comes to degree(we do all know that)
which means that people would be having no choice but to apply for these jobs even if they are aware that it is really hard to get up some commissions, this is why they do really end up
on getting deal with it as they dont really have any choice.Just like the rest been saying that it would be falling on someones preference but if you dont have any options or choices
to be made then you would really be forcing yourself on dealing on something that you dont really like for the sake of having some income.

But there are people who arent really that good when it comes to marketing and this is why they do stick out with that fixed salary income rather than on going into those commission based.
They do have  their own pro's and con's which it would really be just depending on what you do prefer because not all could really be able to deal with basing up into their financial conditions.
If you do really like on making yourself having no problems when it comes to finances then it would really be that normal that you would be finding other viable sources neither via
investments or having your own business but of course it would really be needing that more risk taking and having that capital needed.

IMO commission jobs are good for journalists, writers, artists, coders, builders, but you can't expect a store clerk to work this way. How would you pay a gas station worker on a commission salary? For each car that goes through? That would be ridiculous.

Commission cannot be used as payment for all types of job just as said in the above quote. Also commission payment benefit the employer and a hardworking employee. A lazy employee will prefer a basic salary as he knows that either he's work is fruitful or not, he will be paid.

whatever opinion is here I think it's true. Back again to the individual human mentality, where not everyone can take risks like other people, so if that's the case, salary is a good thing to do. but I personally tend to look for a safe point and then do a side business, so that the salary income I can use to meet daily needs, while the commission I get is to invest and maybe open a new business, until the time comes when I will let myself go as an employee and become an entrepreneur completely
The salary plus the hobby that you do for side income is the proof that most of humanity just wants to have their own business and do whatever they want instead of a salary based job. The idea of 9-5 is not appealing to anyone, and the idea of a boss that yells at you is definitely not one neither.

This is why I believe that we shouldn't be shocked to learn people just fail to do that or do not have the courage to leave. That means they cannot just have their own business, or freelance, they just get into a job and retire there because they are afraid. I have met with both kinds of people and none of the salary based ones were happy about it, because even the idea of going to office is not cool.
i like salary based job. And I try to give my best but I can't take the stress on my head about the sales all the time to get the commission out of it.
Apart from both I would like to have a side hussle which can help me get some money out of it. Like an Airbnb project or online home based garden store.

I currently have a salary base job and I love it. It helps me have a stable income, although it will be quite boring, but when I get used to the job, I will have more free time and can use it to learn about investment channels. No matter what kind of work you do, you should have an investment, only then can you have a more comfortable and fulfilling life.
It's not just you because many of them have a more stable income but are still investing,
I think it is important for us to at least be literate about investment because for the future it is more promising,
but to get a profitable investment return of course it takes hard work

The best way to be your own boss (if we speak about taking commission based jobs), then we should choose freelance work instead because we keep loving what we do and we only do what we love. A person needs peace of mind and if he knows about his skills and have the courage to stand out, then he must go ahead and search for some work that meets his profile instead of chasing something new. This way, he will also make money while enjoying the work because all he is doing is something that he loves to do.
I agree.

I've worked in the corporate with a fixed salary and as well as a job-commissioned position. I like both of it differently. With a fixed salary, you know what we like about it.

And for the commission-based jobs, I like the freedom that this type of setup has. It's more output based and that's why you have no fixed salary.
I also did both but I noticed that having a fixed salary would also limit my capability. It's like working without any motivation. When I switched to a commision-based job, I became more eager to reach different milestones each time I hit my target. It became challenging for me and I was also able to earn better out of it. The limit of earning will only be based on your skills and hard work so I prefer a commision-based job where we could grow and feel more motivated to earn.

Yes that is relating to what they love to do not just what others want them doing. Freelancing like you said is not everybody that can be doing that especially that of writing and reporting, so it is passion for we to do what we like not by what thing others do. A commission job is good if you want to grow a niche for your self but you have the capacity and the believe to do that, you will succeed.

Depends on your needs as an individual. If you are into stable income then go with salary baded job and if not, go olthe other way around. Commission-based job would really give you huge amount of money but the problem is; you won't get commission on a daily basis. Perhaps on apratments; an gent could get a commission each time a new tenant will rent the facility but it won't happen on a daily basis right? And there are time that no outputs are tasked to you which means you will not earn any commission for that day/month. On the other hand, salary based won't be that huge but constantly going to your account which would lessen your worry in times of emergency.
Did you know that most "housewife" people end up with some commission based job eventually in one point of their lives? That is mainly because they do not have to be the bread winner of the house, the male will go out and get a base salary that will provide for the family the basic needs, and the woman could go out and do something that she enjoys and earns only as much as she wants to, like a hobby with some income.

This is not as common these days because everyone is working, but back in our father’s day it was a lot more common. My mom used to have this selling bags thing as well, not for a lot, just 3-4 years, but she would be selling bags of some companies and take a cut from each sale.

But for me it is very unpleasant because an employee is only trying to make his boss richer faster through the work he does, so I prefer to just receive a basic salary and use my spare time for other jobs with unstable income. Because I think the thing I do is to increase my income personally and not for someone else like my boss or the like.
That is really true and I missed the elephant in the room. You are really just generating sales for your boss and obviously the boss is going to get all the credit while in the meantime, you are struggling to close a deal and make a sale.

Good thing that freelancing is really a thing and I always use that in my spare time. It could be unstable and I might reach the end of the contract one day, but knowing that I still receive basic but stable salary is a good thing.

Commission jobs really pays well over most of salary base job especially if the work is continusly and projects are always on long-term based. But the reality here is, only those who acquired a good portfolio and skills are those who actually feel the big benefits of doing a commission job.

On the other hand, salary based job are mostly pays with average salary. Only professionals with such good skills are bound to be eligible on a much higher salary rate.

We really need to work wise and hard to achieve that high paying salary.

You are right, but in a commission job, you just need to be persuasive enough for customers to make a purchase from you, and you can also earn more from it than a salary-based job. Usually, in a commission job, they can earn enough money to last three months, which is good, but the problem is that it is not always the case because there are months when you have no earnings, so it is not secure, unlike a salary base, where you are already sure that you'll get a salary by the end of the month, but again, it is extremely difficult to get an increase because you need more experience or spend more years to get a promotion.

If we rely on commission work, we need skills that not everyone can afford, it's only natural that commission work is more expensive, I plan to commission work and now I'm focusing on aquaculture, and there has been an offer to provide training on freshwater aquaculture .

I could say that the people who have commission jobs have a talent because they can persuade people. I am always amazed at those people who can persuade people to buy something, because I myself can't really express my feelings towards others. Many of my friends work in commission jobs and earn significantly more than I do.I'd like to try, but I lack the talent and skill that they do.

I haven't worked for a long time and don't have any special skills, so for now I prefer a salary base job than a commission job, of course, the income from a commission job is greater than the salary base job, so commission jobs are more suitable for those who already have other income.
If your basic salary is still more than enough to live your life at this time, then there is no need to worry or bother to look for other income such as commissions through certain skills. Because when you want to find a certain skill from the bottom, you will definitely spend more time on it so that it makes you no longer consistent in working as usual which is paid with a basic salary.

If I could only chose one then I would go with Salary base job since it would secure my expenses and I wouldn't be pressured on how much I would be earning since it is fixed.
Unlike in commission you don't really know how much you could make in the next cut-off.
But if you have some income other than the commission base job then I think it would be better.
Yes, that's how it goes in commission and salary earning. You'll be relaxed more with salary based job because you know how much you'll be receiving plus the deduction and you don't need to force much of yourself.
But if you're younger and you know that you've got a lot of energy to be a work horse then a commission job is for you. What I know with these people that are in the commission basis, they really like to do sales.
Working for a fixed wage is no longer feasible in the economic conditions that led to the disappearance of the middle class in society, which was able to live on a fixed wage. Some may go to get a second job, but this is very exhausting, both physically and psychologically. For this reason, sending private projects represents the best solution.
