Wow! I should’ve known about Raspberry Pi 4(RPi4)!

I do think the RPi4 is the culprit to my problem. I had my RPi4 plugged in WITH its very own PSU before and read a few forums and websites saying it’s okay to plug in a RPi in the 5V USB port. So I thought it was okay to unplug the PSU powering RPi4 and just directly plug RPi4 to the R606 for convenience but then 10-30 minutes later, it suddenly shut off with just the fan rolling.

And thank you so much! I’ll send back the R606 as soon as I can for repairs.

At least we now know this so others don’t get the same problem. Although I do hate being the rat test subject. Tongue

The new fancy multi-core ones anyway. The 5V regulator on the R606 is the same circuit that powers the D/1 port pair on the GS Hub, and should be good for the older models but the new Pi 4 is hungry.

Think for yourself
Yes, we found out early on that the Pi 3b drew more current than earlier models.  My Pi wouldn't boot when using the port on the R606.  So a separate P/S is required for Pi's.

Im glad I read this before purchasing a pi4 without a dedicated power supply for it.

Yes, I have already sent them a message about the situation and awaiting for a response.

If it is a problem with the 5V circuit, is it a “quick” fix with a few soldering tools and electrical parts?

I haven’t opened it up of course so warranty(if there’s any) wouldn’t be affected. I’m just curious if it would be something doable so it could cut us both a slack for both savings and time. I appreciate your offer! I will look forward to it if there’s no way I can do anything about it! Thank you so much! God bless!

BTW, I did have my Raspberry Pi 4 attached to its 5V USB port with no additional power but only the 200W 12V PSU powering it. Perhaps that’s the problem? I just don’t see how that would connect...?

sorry to hear it is bust already...i think your pi has short circuited something but won't know until it is opened for inspection.
I work at Eyeboot and your email has been answered; provided a prepaid usps return shipping label so you can send it back to us free of charge.
Please make sure you use the return shipping label within 7 days or your return will be closed.

Well there you go. The Pi4 can be a pretty hungry machine, and the internal 5V, which is located at the hot end of the board and powers that output jack, is good for 3A but shared with internal loads like the USB interface chip, onboard micro, sensors and lights. If you overloaded that regulator and damaged it, the miner won't mine and the lights won't work, but the fan would still kick on.

Are you testing it with the Pi powered separately? Try that and see what happens.

My guess is there's an issue with the 5V circuit. Not sure why there would be, but if you're in the US and bought it from Eyeboot it traveled across the Pacific twice so something could have gotten jostled in shipping. The batch he received was tested for a full 3 days and power-cycled numerous times. Point of fact, I have yet to see one with a failed 5V circuit at any point in testing. But your symptoms sound like what would happen in that case.

What you should do is talk to Eyeboot about warranty work. If you can wait a bit I can repair it for you, but as noted above I'm breaking down my shop and moving to a new location this month so I wouldn't be able to look at it until after Thanksgiving, and either way you need to contact Eyeboot. The reseller is always the first point of contact for support.

All lights go off and I even made sure by letting it sit for about 1-3 hours. Only the fan is spinning... it’s not inertia; it’s power coming off of the r606 from 200W 12V PSU.

Thanks for quick response! I’ve been following R606 for a few months now deciding if I should buy it as a hobby miner but then this happens... what would you recommend me do at this point?

So when it powers off, the fan is still powered and spinning? Or is it spinning under its own inertia? Does the orange light go off as well?

Usually when an R606 cuts out like this it's because of the power supply. But if the fan is still powered that would indicate something else.

Hello! I created this account so I can ask some questions about my R606.

I preordered a R606 and it just came October 5, 2019.

I was so excited to get my hands on it until I realized I received a dud and I’m quite pi**ed off.

I plugged in my 200W 12V PSU barrel jack into my R606.

While looking for ways to make it work in CGMiner, my R606 suddenly shut down after 30 minutes with only the fan running. The blinky white light turned off, and the three red lights also turned off. Once in a while, it turns back on for a few seconds(usually 1-10seconds) and immediately turns back off. When it turns on for 1-10 seconds, it mines normally at a range of 250GHs. Fan works normally with zero issues.

I can mine normally with my newpac.

I preordered my R606 from a website called “eyeboot.”

Is there any way I can fix this? Is there anyway I can send to a location to get it fixed or replaced? Eyeboot store is in Hong Kong so shipping it back would be costly. Although, I don’t mind to ship it within US.
I really don’t want this to turn into a $300 + $48 shipping waste.
Can anyone help please?

We've got some miners to test, and some to ship out to resellers in the next week or so, and then production will be stalled while we move into the new facility I've been building since summer.

It's gonna be actually insulated, which is great because I didn't want a 100KW data center running just to keep the pipes from freezing.

But it does mean we'll have probably a three-week lull in production of basically everything. But fresh batches are already in the works for as soon as we get machines back up and running.

We are not retail.
We tend to update orders with an eta per Gekko's production cadence. What I see is the wait isn't very long right but you should have received an update. Let me know if that didn't arrive and I can look into it.

Jeez...I look at above and was just missed in the list..I look like a game of 'battleship'.

Anyway, are we still playing in November yet in 2019?
