Why not just a create a section for giveaways. After alt coins are all descendants of bitcoins.

Any chance of banning ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ and *********** and similar in the subject titles too - clear indication of board spam.
Good idea, think all threads begging for tweets and likes should also be banned.

They make a lot of money of that traffic... Its the section with more trafic (95% of the site traffic). And 90% of the threads in this section are for give aways... This is not good for bitcoin, and im going to tell you why... The newbies the people who ear about bitcoin at first time comes here to see what its it really, and they dont want to put money in it, so they at the biggining ask for free coins. Its the way i started with this. So this is afecting the bitcoin grow too
They make money thanks to the ads they have in the forum so i don´t know what its the logic behind this.

Had to quote this.

Any chances of banning users who use keyboards?
Any chances of banning users who have images?
Any chances of banning users who're bald?
Any chances of banning users who love free coins?
Any chances of banning users who don't use capital letters?
Any chances of banning users who's grammar is not correct?
Any chances of banning users who pick their nose while they type a reply? ( Sec, finger deep. )
ANY CHANCE OF BANNING EVERYONE?

Thought people would be smarter and wouldn't ''judge a book by its cover''

Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections. From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.

Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here.

Thank you!

we just had our EBT thread locked. 7 page announcement locked because of this "Rule"

Can we get a Subsection for Giving Away coins in Alt-Coins

By giving away coins to new people it helps bitcoins community grow.

Even if the coin is basically worthless its still good to get new people trying it out before they move up to bitcion and lose there money with noobish mistakes which happen all the time.

Who cares if you lose 10,000 mooncoin or ebtcoin or whatever but if you lose even 1 bitcoin its a big fucking deal all of a sudden

let newbies practice.
No problem man, here's a solution:

I'll be glad if people use my forum ( for free ) and do giveaways there.

Mods allow bitcoin related: banner ads that will pop your eyes out, refferal links, scams, ponzi/piramid scemes and ban altcoin giveaways... This makes no sense Sad

Eh, I personally was able to get my first bit coin fragments by alt coin giveaways and trading, and getting satoshi dust from faucets.   Being able to get alt coins from giveaways here let me get more bitcoins and thus research and learn more as I accumulated them.  It does seem kinda strange that a place that has recieved what looks to be well over 2million dollars in donations at current exchange rates (I was only able to glance at the 50/10 btc donators) and whose's stated philosophy is in part all profit is reinvested into the forum, can not afford to hire more moderators to handle increasing flow of traffic and threads.   Just my two thoughts.

Very odd decision, if it annoys people just have a sub-forum. Not exactly rocket science stuff. There are plenty of sections that I don't like, but I'm not about to to start a campaign to ban them.

Bitcoin forum
, people donated for a Bitcoin forum. Many of those people want Alt Coins gone entirely from Bitcointalk. The Altcoin section was made essentially as an off topic section, to group all non bitcoin crypto currencies in one place that is out of the way from the Bitcoin discussion. The spam is overwhelming the entire forum.

I'm afraid the admins at this forum are so protective of their Bitcoin SHA-256 wealth that they are oblivious to/ignoring the real-world implications of Bitcoin SHA-256's MIT/X11 Open Source License.

Satoshi Nakamoto released Bitcoin SHA-256 under the MIT/X11 Open Source license for the specific purpose of allowing the creation of other versions of Bitcoin (aka Alt-coins).  Yet, the know-it-all forum admins here constantly threaten to ban users and remove discussion of alt-coins not deemed the one official "Bitcoin."

Here's a newsflash:  Bitcoin SHA-256 is not the official Bitcoin.   There is no official Bitcoin after Satoshi stopped working on the client (0.3.19) AND the blockchain forked.  Indeed, under the MIT/X11 Open Source License it is logically impossible for there to be ONE official Bitcoin after the original author's source-code was modified without the origin author and the blockchain forked after such modification.  At that point, Bitcoin SHA-256 technically became an alt-coin called Bitcoin also operating under the MIT/X11 license.  Bitcoin is a protocol.  Bitcoin SHA256 is a crypto-currency.  Re-read this if it doesn't make sense.

Stated differently, it's like creating a Linux forum when Linux came out, calling it a Linux forum, having people donate to the Linux forum, then limiting discussion to RedHat Linux because any other open-source distro is simply an Alt-OS and not the official Linux and is causing too much clutter.  Pretty self-serving and contradictory to the spirit of Open source.

It's your site and you can do what you like, but it is a grave threat to the whole Open-source ecosystem when certain actors have the power to deem one version of an open-source source-code as official and deem others to be unofficial so as to undermine those alternate versions of the open-source source-code.

Again, this is your site, but instead of ignoring the spirit of the MIT/X11 Open Source license, you should change your name from "Bitcoin Forum" to "An Alt-coin named Bitcoin Forum."

However, considering that this forum derives it power from continuing the legal fiction that Bitcoin SHA-256 is the only official Bitcoin I doubt we'll see a name or policy change.

If you disagree that the forum operators are going against the spirit (if not the letter) of the MIT/X11 Open Source License, I look forward to your response.

Hm, shame they're not allowed anymore. Don't fully agree with it, but then again; we're getting an alternate cryptocurrencies sub-forum on a BTC forum, so we should be glad =P. My give-away topic got 115 pages, has been fun!

This made me laugh ... If this forum didnt have such a huge user base and a bigger forum did away with their giveaways they would be promoting accepting giveaways .... Oh well it is what it is I guess
