Though I did post in quite a few giveaway threads, part of me is pretty happy that they're gone. It makes it easier to monitor the threads I post in, too.

They might've been useless alt coins on the whole, but it still helped me accumulate about ~0.2 BTC through Cryptsy, so I'm not complaining!

I like it. A proper seperate forum is a necessity for any proper coin anyways.  Smiley

edit: If someone made an ANN topic that said: "PM me your address and I'll send you x coins!", would that be an offense to the new rules or not?

That is perfectly fine. We just dont want the thousands of pages of address spam.

Ok, so time to move to other forums for Alt-coins giveaways.

Thank you, that is what we have been asking all along  Smiley

soooo, is it that ALL giveaways are banned? or just non-BTC giveaways? or is there really no difference?

As far as I know, Bitcoin giveaways are still allowed in the Games and Rounds section. Do keep in mind however, that there are far fewer Bitcoin giveaways, so much less spam, and also this is a Bitcoin forum. Bitcoin giveaways are sort of supposed to be here, just like Alt Coin giveaways should be on their own forums.

This really wasn't an issue when the Alt Currency section was first made, as there were only a handful of coins. It has become a trend to make hundreds of coins per day now, and we just can't keep up with the volume.

Can I suggest all [ANN] threads also require a relevant website domain too, or perhaps a link to their own forum?

if it's called SuperDuperCoin then they should have SuperDuperCoin.org/com at least.... info domains are too cheap.

Since new coins require nothing to produce a URL at least raises the bar a little.

People don't seem to understand. Essentially we are saying, we don't want your coin spam here. Take it to your own forums, Bitcointalk doesn't cater to thousands of threads about *insert coin*. We aren't motivated to keep the conversation here, so a vote wont do anything, we are trying to get you to take your conversations elsewhere.

People that are saying, FIX IT OR WE WILL LEAVE! thats kind of our intentions. Obviously we don't want people to leave the bitcoin discussion here, but we do want you to take the majority of your altcoin discussion elsewhere. This is Bitcointalk, it can't handle the alt coin discussion volume for 600 different coins, so we are asking that you take it to your own forums.

KeyserSozeMC, we are trying to get people to do exactly what you are doing. Creating your own forums for giveaways like you are doing, I actually really appreciate it.

The main point here that is irritating that people are ignoring, if we don't cut down the post spam, IE hundreds of thousands of posts of people just pasting their addresses, we will lose the entire section. I for one would like to keep the Alt Currency section, however people seem to be ignoring the fact that creating a giveaway subforum wont help. We want the excess spam off of Bitcointalk, not just jammed in a different corner.

From the original post in this thread: "Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here."

We don't want spam, but we allow spam elsewhere in a specific section for the spam, but we won't make a spam section here because we don't want spam.

I just love this logic......

You don't see the difference in giveaway spam for one coin that this forum was created for, and giveaway spam for 600 separate altcoins? Can't really help you if you don't.

there is actually a special site where you can have giveaways. Its called cryptocointalk. So, its simple just post you giveaways there and use this forum for actual only [Suspicious link removed]. I think there is no problem in that.

"CRYPTOCOINTALK" WILL NEVER RESTRICT MEMBERS / DEVELOPERS FROM RUNNING GIVEAWAYS.

my two cents,
As a newcomer who found this site as the result of an altcoin I was looking into, Giveaways are a pain in the ass, along with the i'm selling x million of *insert coin* I have participated in a total of 2 giveaways after having already mined the coin, giveaways will NOT persuade me to try a coin, the coin setup, dev team and coin community will do that for me.
Why should bitcointalk pay to allow you advertise?
The hosting fees, staff time to moderate the forum etc those of you putting out new coins are reaping the benefits of someone else investment, and while I acknowledge that bitcointalk could benefit from the traffic you bring, advertising revenue, why should you get to benefit of their initial investment? with no risk to yourself?
other than one person I have not heard anyone say they would be willing to put any of their money/bitcoins up to be able to continue to do this.
The admin has, in my opinion, been very gracious in saying you can list your offsite giveaway just don't run it on this site. Last time I checked websites are the ownership and property of the registrant not the community, and quite frankly if you come to my home or to my business, you will conduct yourself in a manner I NOT YOU deem acceptable, and if you don't then let me show you the door.
People this is not a democracy, if you want a forum to be run as such put your money where your mouth is and go start altcointalk.org.

whiekl everybody likes free coins this mess was too big and i can see admins not liking that.
100s of giveway threads - loads of them fake.

solution? do off site giveaways or in the official thread of the coin, not create 100s of new topics.

It does look a lot cleaner. Now can we get the newbie jail back to clean up the rest of the site? lol

Says there's a giveaway in the OP, and someone is paying.

Also looks like some are using newly created accoumts to bump their giveaway posts. Might not be a good idea to let people link them from here after all. Or not allow threads that only link to giveaways, only as an addendum in an existing thread.

Would you plz delete the posts you think is unproper and unlock my thread.
