Proof of stake is great, thinking about that myself. It's like a bank but with higher percent interest, plus the asset itself has a potential for growth. Ethereum soon will transit for proof of stake concept, however I think it will require a large number of coins for staking (if 1000 ETH - that's too much). Tezos will launch soon, it requires 10000 XTZ to run a masternode and you can stake any amount of coins via delegated pools, for me it's the best option now!
I think Good Altcoin for longterm investment right now is ETH, ETH is around $700+ right now and prices at the market are about to stabilize and the market is green again and there are projects in the market as well. One of the recent projects which I think will never let you down is blockgrain.io. They’re aiming to automate the supply chain with Grain and later on Fruit/Vegetables/Wool. It’s an Australian ICO.
Australia is amongst the largest exporters of food, and there is absolutely no competition. Their sale has recently started.

Altcoin's potential for long-term investment is Ethereum.
Ethereum is a good coin, let alone for long-term investment, it will bring huge profits.
Ethereum is a fairly stable coin in the Cryptocurrency Market.
Many platforms developed based on ethereum with so many platforms will have a clear future the coins will not go away, ETH will last for a long time.

I'd recommend ETH, Monero, LTC. Good and old ones are the best for the long term.
In my opinion you should consider:
BTC - for safe, long time investments; this currency is usually displayed in relation to USD to its the main reference to other coins
ETH - 2nd one, just after bitcoin, i should be considered as a one of the fastest growing markets; many of the disadvantages of BTC are or will be solved
NEO - very promising solution, good team, good feedback and popularity; one of the safer options in the market

TRX - as well as EOS - new on the market; good team, good plan; can be interesting for a long term investors

I think long term is good and Trx is one option for it.However Binance is a perfect coin for long term. The Exchange is quite perfect and you have to pay 50% less fees when you pay with bnb. I believe this concept will work! Also Oyster Pearl has a very good roadmap with a nice structure and future based concept. These two coins are my favourites for long term invests.
I think it's canbe XRP or XRM.

SONM and UNIVERSA. These will be the best tokens in the next 2 years. Those who do not invest will be annoyed later. Two really good projects that will work very well in the future

bitcoin cash, bitcoin gold, and the ethereum. the altcoin to invest in the long-term and will certainly get big results if investing in coins.
all altcoin are very suitable for long-term investment depends on how to use it either really can wait or not. but most good looks like ethereum and bitcoin cash if used to invest.

You must keep on Hold Bitcoin that will be good investment for the future rather then jump into other altcoin ! soon bitcoin will be rise soon as it was before so keep hold and buy more btc

for 1-2 years it seems the ethereum and bitcoin is a decent coin for detained and have great potential for an inflated price. both of these coins still has a bright future and will be more and more devotees.
Most of the privacy coins are undervalued right now.
The best opportunity is to find a privacy-related project with a low total supply (less than 100M), that way the price will be increasing much faster.
I recently found one project called Etherem Meta. It is related to anonymity and untraceable transaction. They have a very interesting project to build the Anonymous E-Market Place.

There is big market of altcoins but if you going to invest for long term you must research thoroughly to choose worthy coins for long term.According to market capture,volume and popularity Ethereum,Rippple,Bch,Waves are Beat option for long term just buy and hold for perfect moment.
You will be fine,if you will stick 50%into bitcoin,and 25x2 in two promising altcoins like Iota,Modium,Power ledger

Do invest in Ethereum if you can, but I will recommend you go for upcoming cheap Altcoins altogether. Personally, I will go for Stash (STP) and Naga's. There are 1000s of cheap coins with great potentials especially for long term investment.
