nd tied for 2nd nationally in YouGov/Economist poll

Media coverage of Donald Trump's controverisal immigration remarks have lifted the GOP presidential candidate to the top of the Republican field, according to a new Economist/YouGov poll.

Trump was the preferred GOP nominee for president for 15 percent of respondents — 4 points ahead of former Gov. Jeb Bush (Fla.) and Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), who were tied for second place.

Gov. Scott Walker (Wis.), Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and former Gov. Mike Huckabee (Ark.) shared the third spot with 9 percent each.

In addition to being the first choice for the majority of likely voters who participated in the poll, Trump was also the primary second choice for those who preferred another candidate as their nominee.

Rand Paul op-ed: Oppose the Washington Machine Education Bill

I believe that education is the great equalizer, but too often our one-size-fits-all system leaves most kids behind. As someone who has spent a few years in Washington, I can tell you first-hand that there is no monopoly of knowledge here. The Washington Machine should not dictate what happens in our local classrooms. It should be local municipalities, parents, teachers and administrators who make these decisions.

In the years following World War II, America’s educational system was the best in the world, graduating more high school students every year than any other nation in the world.

Today, our education statistics tell another, far more depressing story. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) tests 15-year-old students around the world every three years for proficiency in math, literacy, and science. The results are unacceptable—below average in mathematics in comparison to the other thirty-four OECD countries, and average in science and literacy.

Perhaps even more telling are the results when measured within the United States. Though former Governor Jeb Bush has championed and implemented Common Core policies, Florida students ranked below the U.S. national average.

How did we get to this low point?

How Rand Paul Could Ride the Maharishi Effect to Victory

At Earth & Water, a teahouse in downtown Fairfield, Iowa, patrons sit cross-legged on mats as they down cups of oolong or puerh. Shoes are optional, if not discouraged. On a typical afternoon, it’s crowded with students from the Maharishi University of Management, which opened in 1974 to teach a curriculum inspired by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the progenitor of Transcendental Meditation.

Fairfield, the center of Transcendental Meditation in the U.S., is a hotbed of support for Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul. Earth & Water regulars Jeff Shipley and Roger Leahy helped turn it and surrounding Jefferson County into a stronghold for Paul’s father, Ron, the Texas congressman who came in a close third in the 2012 Iowa caucuses. Now they’re using Earth & Water as a base to help Rand get all the way to the White House. “There’s a self-reliant attitude here,” says Shipley. “The people who want to end the wars and end NSA spying are the same people who want to be able to sell raw milk.”

In 2011, Ron Paul fans made converts and won volunteers among Fairfield’s devotees by canvassing the city’s monthly art festival and its health food stores. “I’ve been supporting the peace movement since Nixon bombed Haiphong harbor,” says Leahy, who moved to Fairfield in 1974 to be close to other practitioners. “When we organized in 2012, downtown, the office had a silhouette of Ron Paul that said underneath it: I’m voting for peace. Ron Paul’s attitude was that many of the problems we’re getting into around the world could stop if we practiced peace.”

Rand Paul headed to Michigan - my spot

Presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton, Rand Paul coming to Michigan this month

LANSING, MI — Presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Rand Paul are scheduled to visit Michigan this month, seeking to build support ahead of the state's March 2016 primary and November general election.

Clinton, the early frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, will visit Michigan on July 21 for a Metro Detroit fundraiser, marking her first trip to the state since she launched her campaign.

The "Conversation with Hillary" fundraiser will be held at the Grosse Pointe home of David Katz and Jill Alper, a national political strategist who has worked on several presidential campaigns. Tickets start at $2,700.

...

Paul, the libertarian-minded U.S. Senator from Kentucky, will return this weekend for a series of campaign stops, beginning with an "Unleash the American Dream Event" in Highland Park with Mayor DeAndre Windom.

"Other local elected officials, business leaders and religious leaders will also join Sen. Paul in this discussion as they seek to end the cycle of poverty that has plagued our nation's inner cities," according to an advisory.

He'll continue his trip on Saturday with "Stand with Rand" events in Shelby Charter Township, Flint, Dewitt and Holland, where he'll be joined by U.S. Rep. Justin Amash.

Hillary is going to an exclusive high end fundraiser in an exclusive suburb while Rand is going straight into urban areas throughout this state to preach his economic freedom zones position. I hope Hillary's expected minority voters see through this Bush-look-alike fraud that is a hawk overseas.

WND (WorldNetDaily - conservative site) uncovers evidence backing up Rand on Hillary's arms shipments

SEE VISUAL PROOF OF HILLARY'S 'SECRET WAR'
Videos, photos confirm smuggling of arms to jihadists

NEW YORK – The allegation that Hillary Clinton’s State Department secretly provided arms to jihadists in Libya has been further bolstered by videos and photographs provided to WND by Libyan expatriates, including a video showing the chief spokesman for the Moammar Gadhafi regime displaying to reporters a cache of weapons and ammunition seized from a ship from Qatar.

The images support the conclusion reached by the Citizen’s Commission on Benghazi that the Obama White House and the State Department under the management of Hillary Clinton “changed sides in the War on Terror” in 2011 by implementing a policy of facilitating the delivery of weapons to the al Qaida-dominated rebel militias attempting to overthrow Gadhafi.

In addition, FoxNews.com reported in May that emails released by the State Department show Hillary Clinton’s interest in arming Libyan opposition groups before the fall of Gadhafi in 2011, even though the United States and United Nations prohibited arming without following strict guidelines and oversight.

Last week, Fox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano claimed in his syndicated column that Clinton, as secretary of state, lied to Congress about providing arms to jihadists.

Napolitano explained that Mark Turi, a licensed American arms dealer, sold hundreds of millions of dollars of U.S. arms to the government of Qatar, which then – at the request of the American government – was sold, bartered or given to rebel groups in Libya and Syria, including to groups that were on the U.S. terror list at the time.

Rand Paul leads candidates in WA GOP straw poll

An unscientific straw poll conducted by the Cowlitz County Republicans at last week’s Go 4th Festival put Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at the top of the list of GOP presidential candidates in the 2016 race.

Rounding out the top three favorites for president were Ted Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas who ranked second, and Ben Carson, a pediatric neurosurgeon and author, who place third. The least favorite among the 16 Republican presidential candidates? Donald Trump.

“I thought he would be at one extreme or another. He would either be at the top or at the bottom,” party chair Arne Mortensen said Wednesday.

Rand Paul Comes Out Swinging Against Sanctuary Cities

“Conservatives say we believe in the rule of law, and the beginning of the rule of law is enforcing the law. Since 1986, there was a promise we would enforce the law on border security. We’ve done squat. We’ve done nothing… Eleven million people have crossed over illegally,” Paul said on the Laura Ingraham show on Tuesday. “So, the first thing we have to do is enforce the law.” He added:

But we have not had a president, Republican or Democrat, who is willing to enforce immigration law. Now we have whole cities and states who stand up and say, ‘We just don’t care. We want these people here at all costs, and we’re not going to do anything about it.’ And I think the time’s come for that to end. But it’s not going to end until you have an executive in the White House who says, ‘I will enforce immigration laws.’

Ingraham noted that Americans are not safe from criminal aliens anywhere in the country, thanks to the sheer number who are here illegally. Paul agreed, calling for a grassroots uprising against President Obama and his administration’s dismantling of immigration law:

Well, it goes to the heart of the matter, because like I say, we’ve been promised this over and over again, and no one’s enforcing the laws. The laws on the books say we should have a secure border, and we don’t. Now, could we update the security? Yes. But even the existing laws need to be enforced, and they’re not being enforced. And they’re being flouted and basically laughed at by cities like San Francisco… They’re ought to be a revolution of folks saying, ‘We want you to obey the law,’ and making sure the president hears them loud and clear.

In light of the latest killing of a woman on a San Francisco pier by an illegal alien, that was already deported 5 times, I'm glad to see Rand stand up and make a stand on this issue. I'm an open borders kinda guy when there's no war on drugs and no social programs for illegal migrants. Turns out, the gun used turns out to be that of an ICE agent.  Angry It's complicated but is major US news from the last few days.

Rand Paul’s Iowa Campaign Should Make the Rest of the GOP Field Nervous

As the old saying goes, out of sight, out of mind.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has only attended two multi-candidate events in Iowa this year – the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event in April and the Republican Party of Iowa’s Lincoln Dinner in May.

With a field of 16 Republican presidential candidates, it’s easy to forget about candidates when they are not campaigning in your state, and skipping out on a number of high-profile evens can make it seem like the candidates who are not attending are not all that active in Iowa. Yet, just because a candidate isn’t taking the time to share a stage with their many competitors doesn’t mean they are not laying the groundwork for a formidable Iowa caucus campaign.

Senator Rand Paul isn’t your typical Republican. His libertarian leanings and focus on the federal government’s intrusion in people’s lives sets him apart from most, if not the rest of the huge field of candidates seeking the Republican nomination. Paul might not be riding the so-called circuit like his many of his contemporaries seem content in doing, but make no mistake, he is running a formidable caucus campaign in Iowa.

Paul has made five trips to Iowa since officially launching his bid for the Republican nomination for president in April. While Paul might not be showing up at every multi-candidate event in the state, he’s campaigned in 19 counties across the state in 2015. That’s just six fewer than Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum who have visited 25 counties in Iowa this calendar year. What’s more impressive is how well orchestrated the Paul campaign events are.

Last week, I attended Paul’s campaign event in Poweshiek County. The event was interesting to me for a number of reasons. First, Craig Lang, the former President of the Iowa Farm Bureau, hosted the event at one of his son’s farms. Second, the event was in Poweshiek County, a place I called home eight years. Third, the event was on a gravel road. A presidential event in the middle of the day basically in the middle of nowhere is always going to get me to circle the event on my calendar.

I was impressed with the turnout. About 50 or so people attended the event, and even though this wasn’t your typical campaign event, the mechanics the Paul campaign is deploying in Iowa was easy to see. First, the Paul campaign is wisely using Eventbrite to ticket their campaign events. Getting people to pre-register only makes the task of collecting data from the event easier. The event was well staffed, but the event itself was entirely reminiscent of Steve Forbes’ campaign events in the 2000 race.

Take the Glenn Beck (major conservative radio talk host - reaches many millions) 2016 Presidential Candidate Letter Grade Poll: Round 7

Let's get Rand on top of this thing. I think we have a chance this time of unseating Cruz. Beck and company have been pumping up Paul ever since the Tax Plan and his recent get Gov't out of marriage remarks. They have been a little sour on Cruz since TPP, his latest supportive words for Trump (they really hate Trump), and his support for a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage.

It's basically a rating of the entire presidential field on the GOP side and you grade accordingly, kinda fun. No email needed but they'll talk about it on this fairly big talk show which influences part of the republican party base. I didn't link it cause I didn't want to blow up the spot.

I don't get your point, so and so. He's rated in 6th place on the RCP (aka Real Clear Politics average which is what is being graded) and will be in the debates, including the 1st one in early August by Fox News. The top ten are included.

Rand Paul: I'll defeat Hillary in swing states

Council Bluffs, IA – U.S. Sen. Rand Paul said Wednesday he stands out in a crowded field of Republican presidential candidates because of his ability to attract young, independent voters he believes will be needed to win the White House in November 2016.

The Kentucky lawmaker said he can beat likely Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton by winning key swing states such as Iowa, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Ohio and New Hampshire that were captured in the 2012 election by President Barack Obama.

"How do you win? I think it's by being boldly for what we are for: A balanced budget, smaller government, the Constitution, and figuring out what part of our message actually appeals to younger people and people who haven't been listening to us," Paul told a crowd of about 100 people at the Hilton Garden Inn in Council Bluffs.

He noted he gave the same speech in defense of 4th Amendment privacy issues at Liberty University, a bastion of conservatism in Lynchburg, Va., and at Berkeley, Calif., home of the University of California and one of the nation's most liberal cities. It's a message that resonates with different audiences, he explained.

"We don't have to change what we stand for, but we do have to figure out how to take it to new people and bring them into our party. I am convinced we can do it," Paul said.

Raised Around Cry For Smaller Government, Rand Paul Carries The Torch

Sen. Rand Paul made headlines recently with his one-man effort to roll back government surveillance. And that's the just beginning of Paul's plan to dismantle big chunks of the federal government.

"The Washington machine that gobbles up our freedoms and invades every nook and cranny of our lives must be stopped," Paul declared in April, as he announced his presidential campaign.

But Paul's hometown of Lake Jackson, Texas, only exists because of a shotgun wedding between big government and industry. The city was hastily built near the Texas Gulf Coast in the 1940s to house workers at a nearby Dow Chemical plant, so that they could produce the magnesium the military needed during World War II.

"The U.S. government stepped in and they made it happen," said Robert Rule, executive director of the Lake Jackson Historical Association.

Rand Paul Wants To Sell Off America’s Public Lands

At a campaign stop in Nevada on Monday, Kentucky Senator and Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul called for the federal government to sell off and privatize America’s national forests and other public lands.

As part of his “Stand With Rand” tour, Sen. Paul told an audience in the Nevada town of Mesquite that the federal government is a “bully” and that national public lands should be under state and private control, as reported by CNN.

“You run into problems now with the federal government being, you know, this bully — this big huge government bully,” Paul said. “You would have less of that if you had more local ownership of the land. State ownership would be better, but even better would be private ownership.”
A notable guest in the audience was outlaw Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who infamously refused to pay more than $1 million in grazing fees owed to taxpayers, resulting in a dangerous standoff in April 2014 with federal land management officials. Bundy is also widely known for his racist views, anti-government ideology and refusal to acknowledge the authority of the federal government, in particular over public lands

Rand Paul, the most frugal lawmaker of them all

As White House hopefuls strike their presidential poses, the meticulous National Taxpayers Union Foundation continues to pore over their voting records, which brings us to Sen. Rand Paul, the latest subject of the organization’s research. No spender is he. During his first two terms in Congress, the Kentucky lawmaker actually proposed savings agendas that would cut $483.8 billion per year, on average, from the federal budget.

“His record clearly demonstrates an approach to budget discipline that can be matched by few,” says analyst Demian Brady, who notes that during the 112th Congress, Mr. Paul proposed an agenda that would cut $650 billion a year, suggesting he has a consistently sterling track record in fiscal matters. He holds the record for the most frugal lawmaker of all, as a matter of fact.

The Democratic contenders aren’t even close.

Rand Paul Predicts Possible Stock Market Crash Because of Fed

Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul is warning that a stock market crash may be coming because the Federal Reserve has kept interest rates from fluctuating, Radio Iowa reported.

“People say, 'Oh, we can just do that forever,'” the Kentucky senator said Wednesday, according to the radio network. “I don’t think so. I think there’ll be a day of reckoning.”

Paul's family has a long history of Fed criticism. His father, former congressman (and three-time presidential candidate) Ron Paul, wrote a book called "End the Fed." The younger Paul, who hasn't gone quite that far (his campaign mantra is "audit the Fed"), made his comments while campaigning in Sioux City.

Judge Napolitano: Hillary lied in her testimony to Rand Paul and should be prosecuted

Hillary’s secret war
Clinton approved arms for terrorist enemies of the United States

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O1Hu36Gy2w

In the course of my work, I am often asked by colleagues to review and explain documents and statutes. Recently, in conjunction with my colleagues Catherine Herridge and Pamela Browne, I read the transcripts of an interview Ms. Browne did with a man named Marc Turi, and Ms. Herridge asked me to review emails to and from State Department and congressional officials during the years when Hillary Clinton was the secretary of state.

What I saw has persuaded me beyond a reasonable doubt and to a moral certainty that Mrs. Clinton provided material assistance to terrorists and lied to Congress in a venue where the law required her to be truthful. Here is the backstory.

Mr. Turi is a lawfully licensed American arms dealer. In 2011, he applied to the Departments of State and Treasury for approvals to sell arms to the government of Qatar. Qatar is a small Middle Eastern country whose government is so entwined with the U.S. government that it almost always will do what American government officials ask of it.

In its efforts to keep arms from countries and groups that might harm Americans and American interests, Congress has authorized the Departments of State and Treasury to be arms gatekeepers. They can declare a country or group to be a terrorist organization, in which case selling or facilitating the sale of arms to it is a felony. They also can license dealers to sell.
