This is a very ancient sport/game. It is not going to get banned. Probably never. Lots of football players die of heart attack every year. They run like horses too. The are many similarities between a horse race and a soccer game. Just because footballers die sometimes, do we need to ban football/soccer? This logic don't make any sense to me.

I understand your sentiments OP but we all know that you cannot put a ban easily just because of that certain reason. Racehorses are expected to collapse or worst they die when heart attacks develop, and this sudden death do happens regardless how healthy or unfit the horse is. Not only in horseracing, but even in cockfighting as well. We often see roosters end their lives after a fight. So banning these kind of sports are still useless, as gamblers will always play on it not because of their winning bets, but because these games have already been established long time ago.

I think the sport and the bets don't need to be banned, but the issues you mentioned above instead. If horses are found being abused, drugged and not cared properly at all, the responsible people for them should be sued, fined and probably arrested in some cases. We know there are animals suffering in every sports they get directly or indirectly involved, although it's too extremist to ban everything because of it.

In horse racing favour I can say horses must be well cared if the managers want them to improve performance and compete for a longer time. Smart managers aren't fool to harm expensive pure breed horses, making them live for less time. That would be unprofitable. So these horses have VIP treatment, feeding and training much superior to common horses we see at pastures.

Humans choose to, footballers choose their sports, they choose to be there. I do not think that anyone should even need a reason to stop animal cruelty. Plus gambling fuels this majorly. Horse betting is so popular especially in England.

If you want it to be banned, I mean hourse race, you want many other races to be banned, such as dog race. If you want that, you need to have political power. Even if you have political power, there are many chances that your proposal may not be accepted.
