Just givre reward after accomplishing work in that way one could be motivated. Start with small things then make it a habbit to work if it is really necessary. Anyway if that individual is one of the member of the family then it would be easier for me just kick out his butt then hit him/hard so that it will take as a reminder of not doing the responsibility. But if that individual dont have a sign to any progress regarding with his/her work then let it be. No cure could be done except him/her do the realization. Just let him/her sink the need to work and see the value of living. It should be that way for me.
It is very important to get motivated. Be it a 60 year old man or a toddler, everyone wants motivation.

First motivation is proper compensation. Hard work should be payed appropriately.
Next, acknowledgement of one's success. Employees tends to work hard when their work is appreciated by their superiors. Appraisals would suffice.
Last, challenge them. When you learn everyday you have a developing career and this wouldn't happen if you keep on doing the same routinary job everyday.
