Insentive works best. And be kind to your co-worker, because good vibe is important. Workplace should be comfortable and co-worker should be good to each other, no backstabbing friends.

You’re empowering them to be their best, trusting that they will then do the right thing. And the right thing they do may not be what you were expecting; it may be something beyond your wildest expectations.
Motivating people in the work place involves a balance between rewards and punishments. A supervisor or a manager should know when to give the carrot or enforce the stick at the right time in the right amount. I believe a person is motivated to work if there is a goal and an appropriate reward. That could ba a tangible reward like money, or a promotion, even acknowledgement of a ranked position is enough. A right kind of goal and a certain novelty so people won't be stuck in a rut
Motivation is very important to work hard and give your best all the time. if there is no one motivating you or acknowledging your work then you will feel low.
Tell people exactly what you want them to do. Motivation is all about getting people to take action, so don’t be vague. Avoid generalities like, “I want everyone to do their best.” Say, instead, “I need you to come in over the weekend so we can get this project done on time.”

Motivate a person by encouraging him to do something, give him the trust that he can really do the tasks and for a job well done give him the recognition. Even words of congratulations can be enough motivate a person but rewards can do better than that.
If a person is not motivated enough, then they will not feel good about themselves and about their lives.
First if you want to motivate a person to work you must gain her/his trust and respect. If it's a teenager, the problem could be that they've had their needs taken care of their entire lives and don't realize that things will change when time comes to leave home. Painting a clear picture of what their setting themselves up for could help.

Being not too bossy at work and being friendly and approachable would help motivating employees. Acknowledgement also motivates workers to work harder and do their best at work. A healthy working environment is a happy work place, people would work effectively if the management or the work it self is not stressful.
Raise the salary of your employees and they will work harder. This is a proven fact and it never fails. Give them incentives, appraisals and appreciations.
Motivation is dependent on the person you are dealing with. This is why in management, one has to get to know his or her workers and know what motivates each of them in order tof get the maximum contribution from them.
Motivating a person to work is one of the best ways to help people in working. And if you have that, you must know how to give that. Hence, to motivate someone is to empower them to be their very best to work onto something big and great.
