It's just another phenomenon that gamblers often assumes that they have some control over the outcome of their bets especially if they have been doing it for a while even though every time is just purely random there's no skill involved. Take dice for an example we might assume that we can control and influence the result of it by throwing softer or harder or in anyway that our brain recognize a pattern and keep tells us it's a way to win the game. So let's discuss about it.

This is one of the most addictive parts of gambling, the seed in a gamblers mind that they have any influence in the outcome of unskilled games and that a streak of losses means that eventually the game should start paying out. Neither of these is true, but has cost people everything before they realize and sometimes they never will realize. Keep gambling to a small and fun outlet where you expect to lose every penny you put in, that is the right mentality to have. On unskilled games, which is pretty much every game a casino offers, you will never beat the house because and you'll only endanger your finances by playing these games too often.

Every gambler must have felt it, not only in games like dice, I personally even felt like I had control over a football match after I won bets there in a row. You know Tottenham's match when they faced Brentford?

I confidently placed a bet in the 25th minute of the match and was sure that Tottenham would score their second goal in the first half, not long after that, Brennan Johnson scored for Tottenham. It didn't stop there, after the match went on without any more goals until the 75th minute, I placed another bet on over 3.5 total goals, then again James Maddison scored for Tottenham Cheesy.

This was also common when I used to play with physical dice. Some of us used to believe that shaking the dice at specific times resulted in wins. There may also be some superstition associated with the belief that we can control or influence the outcome of the game by acting in a certain way while gambling. Gambling is primarily based on luck; these patterns may result in a few wins, but there is no guarantee that such wins will be consistent. Having this mentality should be discouraged because it can lead to excessive gambling.

This is true 100 with the luck-based game where it totally relies on the RNG result.  This kind of game does not need a skill or whatsoever, they just need luck to win.  I do not know why people think they have a control over the result when they themselves can't even tell the next result of the luck base game.

But on the game that requires skill, I think the control on the result here is somehow not an illusion because with proper thinking and strategy, the player can lead himself to his wanted outcome.

Maybe it's more about Gambler's Fallacy(?), which is a case where a gambler believes that a random event is less likely or more likely to happen based on the outcome of a previous event. Usually gamblers are often like this where they believe that if they choose A then it will happen based on their experience, but the reality is that they actually lose, because it is very difficult to predict the outcome of the gambling. This kind of thinking error often makes gamblers experience quite a lot of losses and in a row, because they are too confident in what they believe and assume that the gambling is under their control, when in fact it is not.

Nobody can control the outcome of gambling unless they're manipulating it, gambling is supposed to be based basically on luck. Most casino games like slot and dice are based on luck, there's no special skills that is involved to play and win, so any feelings of being in control while playing can as well be seen as illusions. But skills can be involved in sports bet, if a bettor understands teams strengths and weaknesses, it can guide them to analyze matches. Being overconfident and having a feeling of being in total control during gambling can lead to chasing loses and degenerate to addiction.

even though dice is usually looked at as a complete luck based game, you could know some patterns as a dice player and overtime you tend to get similar outcome from the dice by using that same pattern. At least for dice I'm certain that it's one game we play frequently even without making use of money and it's usually the case that you command a certain number to come out and it does come out.

While playing you hear stuff like, Double 6! and most times it comes out that way. We've come to almost believe that when you command a particular number that the number must always come out while if you're casual, random numbers alone are the things that will regularly come out. Apart from purely luck based games, any other game that's not dependent on just your luck like the usual football games, what you believe in doesn't even matter. After believing that a game will go in a certain direction, The players will go to the Field and play what they want to play and bring back a result that's totally based on thier performance and not what you say, think or believe.

I was smiling when reading you post because what you said about calling out the number that you want when rolling a dice and the number appears is just luck and it doesn't mean that it was your believe that made it happen. The reason why I said this is because, there are also times that you will call those numbers and the outcome will be different. I have also rolled dice in that way, there are sometime that for you to get a six will be very difficult and maybe after 30 rolls is when a six will appear. What I am pointing out is that it is illusion and nothing more because your win is based on luck be it skill game or non skill game.

When it comes to gambling, would be very hard to contain your games especially once you are on the losing end. As the tendency to recover is always there, your route is to play again and again up until you have no more bankroll to play with. That's the dilemma of most gamblers, how to stop when you are already on the losing side?

I believe that ultimately, saying that you can control it is crazy just because you cannot control it, but you can have a strategy to improve your chances because you can control what you do when you are gambling. Maybe you are talking about being delusional in terms of feeling and knowing that you could continue gambling and then win a jackpot. I guess it’s the part of you where you justify yourself because you want some time or see somebody when you could do it too. It’s that influence, in my opinion, and you cannot replicate that and control it.

Winning a jackpot is very slippery when it comes to gambling. So better prepare yourself in this addictive activity. The reason why everyone is advising to just use spare money because winning is hard, let alone, survive long without busting your bankroll. Most definitely, the aim of every gambler is to win something, however, such target is not everyday that you can achieve in this game.

gamblers still like dice  because the martingale sometimes work for them. the amount of money they bet is what they can control.
I have tried martingale on 3 odds games in roulette and I also tried it on 2 odds while gambling with dice. Martingale will be used buy the newbies and later leave it when it failed them. Have you played in a way that you will think that the gambling site is scamming you like they are manipulating? It is not manipulation because I have experienced it on several casinos. It is house edge. This will make martingale not work in long term.

It is worth pointing out, that illusion of control usually appears when the gambler is having a winning spree and good luck in on his side, to the point they are able to withdraw a significant amount of money before continuing to gamble for the rest of their session. As we know, the illusion will sooner or later be broken by the laws of chances kicking in and making the gambler to start losing money at a very fast pace, leading to losses.

Also, I have seen people in this community and in other places on the internet to talk about "charms" or luck amulets which alledgedly helps them to have good luck during their sessions, that is part of the same illusion of control. They gaslight themselves on following patterns which actually do not exist by trying to correlate their good or bad luck to things around happening to them. If a very superstitious gambler have very good luck gambling on Tuesday and very bad luck gambling the next day, he will quit gambling on Wednesdays and only gamble on Tuesdays from that day on.

Beaides of the silliness we could find of that kind of behavior, it is certainly interesting how the mind of one could push us to rationalize something which we already know it is outside our control.

the online dice game is like binary though. even when we have no idea of the result, somehow when there's just below 50 and above 50, the odds of winning is quite high which is worth the risk for the gambler. doubling the money in such simple game is tempting.
