If you look at Real Madrid's current condition, it is very realistic to have doubts as you said besides Atalanta are also in their best form. Real Madrid are currently in a defender crisis and there are no pure strikers who are really capable. So blaming or cursing Mbappe and Ancelotti is also useless, what they have to do now is immediately rise to face the next match with full confidence.
In terms of head-to-head record, Real Madrid has a positive record against Atalanta. Ancelotti's team managed to sweep up all three wins from the previous matches between the two teams. This duel also served as a revenge for Atalanta who were defeated by Real Madrid in the 2024 UEFA Super Cup. Real Madrid, who played with a full squad, managed to emerge as the winner.

This time the situation is very different from the previous match, a number of key Real Madrid players are injured giving Atalanta an advantage. Real Madrid also failed to maintain their performance after their squad limped, so far they have suffered 3 defeats from 5 matches, this situation will be used by Atalanta to continue the negative trend that has not been touched by defeat in the 5 games that have been played.

Atalanta must be able to take advantage of Madrid's declining performance. Mbappe may have lost confidence with fans' high expectations of him but his performance is far from expectations.
Of course, it won't be easy for Atalanta, but their performance is quite good. They may be more favored when facing Madrid, especially since they will play at home.
Atalanta may not have any difficulty in this round and can ensure 1 ticket to the next round without going through the play-offs, regardless of the result of the match against Madrid.

Atalanta will be a huge problem for Real Mardid.
As the things stays today Atalanta can easly face any team in the Champions League and have an opportunity to win.

I'm not crazy as today Atalanta can be one of the favorite for the final win.

In 5 months anything can change but TODAY they are not inferior to anyone.
Madrid have a big challenge to get out of the difficult conditions at the moment, the defeat to Liverpool and also Lille has made Madrid currently down in the UCL and I think it will be difficult for them to get up and qualify for the last 16 later, the next game they will be against Atalanta and I think it will be another difficult game for Madrid to get points.

In group stage, yeah. Atalanta have been doing an amazing work. They don't struggle to score and have a really strong defense at the same time. They are way better than Real Madrid in these statistics as well.  Smiley

Look at these odds. The gap is so close... I would even make a fun bet on Atalanta to win at these odds.  Grin  Real Madrid is dealing with many injuries including important names such as Vinicius Junior too. If he doesn't play in this one they would struggle in the attacking line just like they did against Liverpool.

Looking at the odds available, we can interpret that the bookies do not favor either of these two teams. besides considering that both teams have the same odds, this match is quite complicated and difficult for us to predict. in Atalanta's camp, they are advantaged in playing at home plus they have also performed quite impressively in their 5 matches in the Champions League without defeat. in this meeting, Atalanta certainly does not want to lose points to ensure they are safe to advance to the next phase. while in Madrid's camp, their performance with injured players is quite doubtful. although, Madrid is still a team that cannot be underestimated. we know that several of Madrid's core players are still absent due to injury, but it seems that Rodrygo's status has the potential to strengthen Real Madrid's front line in this meeting. at least, Mbappe has a partner if Don Carlo returns to playing two strikers for the front line of his squad. what is certain, Madrid knows the situation will be very unlikely if they lose full points again. in other words, Madrid must win after they were defeated by Liverpool at Anfield. So, this match seems like it will get a lot of attention from football fans, very interesting.

I still believe Madrid will finish in the top 16 regardless of what happened with Mbappe, how far they will go is uncertain though. If Vini and the other players are back they can fight for the semi-finals and more imo.

I doubt Real Madrid can make it to the top 16. They play Atalanta away next and that fixture could determine a lot. They will be without Vini and Camavinga and they will be missed. Atalanta is one of the the teams in Europe in top form so I don't see them losing to Madrid at home.
Madrid will make top 24 that's for sure, but I don't see them in the top 16.

Remember Real Madrid's status as the king of UCL will not be lost even though they lose to Liverpool even though they are currently in the relegation zone and also remember that Real Madrid is a team that always makes a comeback, this is if you remember the season how dramatic they made an unexpected comeback. So I am always optimistic that Real Madrid can qualify for the last 16, I am sure they will immediately rise to win the remaining three matches in the UCL league.

I don't know, it seems he is very burdened as a great player, he's like stage fright when competing in big matches. He's like a new player who just took penalty so it's nervous and fails to execute it.
Mbappe does not have good mentality at penalty spot, he is not like Balotelli who has his strong mental instinct at this spot. Many times we saw Mbappe failed at penalty spots but in three latest seasons, he improved his penalty shot skills. It's truly big improvement of Mbappe but sometimes at this spot, Mbappe can fail with weak mentality and high nervous shot.

Seems like a lot of people see the same thing. I read an article saying that his previous confidence came from feeling superior in PSG, but I'm not sure about that. At the end of the day, only Mbappe and the coaching team can analyze why. Ancelotti needs to figure out how to bring his best asap if they want to compete in the UCL and La Liga at the same time unless he can magically call Vini and other key players asap.
I wonder that whether Ancelotti wanted to have Mbappe in his squad, because I think he actually imagined of big problems to use Mbappe effectively. He could not ask Perez to refuse Mbappe as a free player, but so far, he struggled to use Mbappe well. Using this player well or not, it will affect Real Madrid performances as well as coach position of Ancelotti.

Going to semi-finals in Champions League is not easy for any club even Real Madrid, and they can fail before semi finals in any season. Last 10 years with 5 Champions League titles is a golden era for their club but no party can last forever and maybe they will not go far in Champions League this season.

It's weird to see Real Madrid so low in the UCL table, it's clearly not their best season, but they still have 3 games left to play, which are:
Atalanta (away)
Salzburg (home)
Brest (away)

Salzburg should be an easy 3 points. Atalanta is really strong this season, currently 2nd in Serie A and 5th in the UCL, it will be hard to earn any points on them. Brest is struggling in Ligue 1 with only 4 wins and 7 losses, they are doing OK in the UCL but that's due to the 3 wins over a relatively weak team, I think Real should be able to win.
I expect Real to finish the league stage with at least 12 points, which would put them in the play-offs.
There's nothing like easy  point in UCL , UCL brings together best of best under same roof competing with each other  to know the best among the best (that's a little bit twisted Grin) which is why it's surprising when some team get beaten attimes, though there are some class of stronger teams ...
Realmadrid having it easy with salzburg still depends on their performance ,Atalanta is a hard one just like Liverpool  even though they once beat them earlier this season but that was with their full squad, things will be different  this time around.

Regarding three matches left, Atalanta is most difficult opponent team for Real Madrid because have consistent performance in UEFA Champion League and domestic league match. Atalanta have quit well performance in Champion League keep unbeaten until five matches and success being draw the top premier league team Arsenal on the first game week,  but Madrid have advantage lead head to head after success defeating Atalanta on Super Cup final over 2-0 and get confidence for winning the upcoming match.

For Salzburg and Brest looks not difficult opponent team for Real Madrid but secure three matches left and have 18 points looks still not comfortable for Madrid directly qualifying to knock out round. Must waiting another team result keep consistent or not but current standings awhile Liverpool seems easily get directly qualify after winning all matches and have 15 points awhile.

Atalanta will be the problem among those three clubs though the last time Real Madrid won Atalanta 2 but that was when Real Madrid was good but this time Atalanta will hit them from were it will pain them, however for Brest being away will certainly loss to Real Madrid and the same thing will happen to Salzburg even with there home, I want to see Mbappe playing well on this three matches.

After the defeat from Liverpool it is clear that at the moment Madrid has a difficult situation in the Champions League , so indeed if Madrid lose the next match against Atalanta of course it will be Madrid worst performance in recent seasons due to early exit from champions league , at the moment Ancelotti has this situation which is very challenging and if he cannot take Madrid through to the next round of course it will be a stain on his career,  They are currently in 24th position which is the last position to qualify for the playoffs, so I think even to survive and qualify for the play-off zone will be difficult for them if they lose to Atalanta later, the change in the format of the Champions League is really a nightmare for them at the moment.
Real Madrid still have three matches to play in the Champions League, with Atalanta, Salzburg and Brest, not the most difficult opponents for Real Madrid, so I think they will definitely be able to reach the playoffs, but there are doubts that they will be able to get into the top 8, which initially seemed obvious. But it seems to me that the reasons for such results are obvious, so for Ancelotti this is not a reproach, they just act according to the current situation.
Real Madrid are currently in 24th place in the Champions League, they are in the last position for a club that can be in the play-off round. To be able to qualify automatically, it is clearly difficult for them, even though they are only 4 points away from 8th place in the Champions League standings, but other clubs are also in good condition to maintain them. Their current position is not safe, and there is no other choice for them except to win the remaining matches in the Champions League this season. If they lose again in the next match, then their chances will be even more difficult. There is still, yes, there is still, but once again it is a difficult thing to do.

Madrid is in an unsafe position now, maybe they are still in the top 24, but if they lose again in the next match, their chances of getting into the last 16 will be even smaller. The only chance for Madrid to qualify for the last 16 is by participating in the play-off round if Madrid is ranked in the top 24 where the teams ranked 9-24 will compete in the play-off round. I still want to see Madrid go far in the UCL this season.
In the remaining three match Real Madrid will face Atalanta away then against Salzburg at home and also the last one is against Brest and of course these three team are not strong team and it is still possible for them to save points even though they are in bad shape.
But Real Madrid must be careful for the next match against Atalanta considering Atalanta good performance and they could give surprise and beat Real Madrid, there is still big chance for them to be in the safe zone so they can continue to enter the play-off round.

Yes you can never tell for sure, but I think a goal from Mbappe would have shifted the momentum at least a bit or it would have changed the game because Real Madrid wouldn't have to open up anymore and play for the win. They I think would have been ok with the draw and then they would have been the ones who could patiently wait for one attack and score a goal. But since they were behind, it was impossible for them to stay calm and patiently defend. There have been plenty of games where one goal changed it all. Should I provide an example? Manchester City vs Feyenoord Rotterdam Tongue

In your example, you don't need to go far, just remember Real and their games, especially in the context of the Champions League, for example last year against Manchester City, when they only needed to score one goal for the opponent to fall apart, get confused and start conceding more goals. It could have worked, but I think not with Liverpool.....

Yes yes I know, Real Madrid has made the impossible suddenly possible out of nowhere so many times in the Champions League against the best teams in the world that one goal can change so much for them. But I have to say that the team they have available now is not quite the team they had available when they did these crazy turnarounds. But still at 1-1 you don't want to run into a counter attack with Mbappe waiting for it to be finished. Liverpool would have been more careful, but after he missed the penalty, they could just play their game.
Liverpool's biggest advantage is that they caught Real Madrid with many missing players. Many of their players are injured. If they weren't injured so much, maybe Real Madrid could beat them. Their main players couldn't play, the most effective of which is Vinicius Junior. His absence was felt a lot. Mbappé couldn't attack and organize the attack in the same way.

Apart from the injury factor experienced by Real Madrid players, this game will be played at Atalanta headquarters. Although Atalanta failed to win in the two home games they have played in the UCL, they remain a big threat to Real Madrid who are trying to get full points. So far Atalanta have won 7 matches in a row in all competitions, I am not sure Real Madrid can win against Atalanta who are in good form this season. Real Madrid still has a chance to qualify for the last 16 through the Play-off, but that depends on the results achieved in the next match.

A very risky bet because if Madrid is successfully defeated by Atalanta, I will automatically see 2 big events. First, Madrid made history by being eliminated early in the Champions League and Ancelotti's career fate could be fired. No matter what Ancelotti has given, this season is a sign that he cannot fix the performance problem. We will also see Atalanta ambition to give a nightmare to Real Madrid.

It's quite unfortunate that Real Madrid is having a lot of injured players in the club this season that they are facing tough opponents that are in their best form. I don't see Real Madrid surviving the group stage with the rest of their matches to be played, because Atalanta will disgrace them compared to what Liverpool did to them. Hopefully, Madrid will squeeze their way into the second round as best losers through play off.

I think Ancelotti did what he had to do but his time at Madrid was over. He couldn't cope with the rapidly improving game of other clubs. Like it or not maybe this will be a strong reason for Ancelotti to leave and Madrid to bring in a new coach. Mbappe has been over hyped by the media, his arrival has destabilised the existing set-up.
