Interesting Op-Edge from RT:

Lessons of World War II forgotten: Will Germany be the peacemaker?
http://rt.com/op-edge/157716-lessons-of-ww2-forgotten/

Quote
There is a grim irony that Gen. Philip Breedlove, the NATO Supreme Commander in Europe, should have announced that the alliance was considering permanently deploying troops in Eastern Europe only days before May 9.

This day is celebrated as Victory Day over Nazi Germany throughout Russia and other former Soviet republics.

For through World War II, the Russian, American and British peoples were all joined together in a desperate struggle for survival and then victory over the most monstrous tyranny in recorded history. And as Western leaders at the time, especially Winston Churchill, full and openly acknowledged, by far the greatest role and sacrifice in ensuring that victory over Nazism and fascism was suffered by the Russian people and the Red Army.

The irony grows even greater as over the winter we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Kiev and the heart of Ukraine from the Nazi tyranny. Yet the current interim government in Kiev which was established, not by democratic process and lawful elections, but through a violent coup, is already moving to lift the ban on expressions of Nazism that was maintained by all previous Ukrainian governments of both the left and right since national independence at the end of 1991.

When were they independent? They were service a nasty local dictator (who actually was a Putin puppet btw.)

And yet people chose him. What can you do? According to wiki presidential elections were OK.

I think the main problem with Ukraine is too much power in the hands of politicians (as everywhere), which goes very well with rampant corruption in poor countries. I guess main issues is their constitution, that allows this concentration of power - good luck changing this with the very same politicians and the same voters, because of this significant constitutional changes occurs only after real revolutions or after wars.

It is a big country with lots of agricultural land and resources, they should declare independence and become a neutral country.  Kiss

I can't believe Ukrainians want to join EUSSR or RUSSR.  Shocked

They want to be raped by either Mr. Draghi or Mr. Putin, how can anyone be so stupid and want to join an organization that is stealing your freedom?

Ukraine should look towards Switzerland, that's the way to go.  Smiley

Ukraine president warns of 'destruction' ahead of referendum

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/05/10/ukraine-president-warns-against-self-destruction-ahead-referendum

Quote
President Oleksandr Turchynov, in comments posted on the presidential website Saturday, said supporters of independence for the east "don't understand that this would be a complete destruction of the economy, social programs and general life for the majority of the population." Roman Lyagin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic's so-called electoral commission, said at a press conference on Saturday that the vote "is the only way to avoid war and armed conflict," predicting it will "legitimize" separatists in the eyes of the world.

Turkish minorities caught up in the Ukraine whirlwind

As the crisis in the Balkans deepens, more ethnic minorities feel themselves threatened. The recent clashes between pro-Russian and Ukrainian forces have taken a toll on not only the Tatar Turks in Crimea but also some 18,000 Meskhetian/Ahiska Turks living in the region. With the increasing violence on the streets of many Ukrainian cities, Meskhetian Turks have called on Turkey for help. Turkey has a responsibility to provide diplomatic solutions for the Turkic minorities, who have been caught up in the Russia-Ukraine whirlwind.

So, Putin invaded Crimea under the guise of protecting its population, then annexed it through a popular majority vote... and is now failing at keeping the population of his new region safe, despite having troops everywhere?

Lol, and why would you want to keep them under your control? I am being serious!

You don't like them, you think they are impolite, drunkers, idiots, robbers, violent, lower class, uneducated, lack of cognitive functions. Pretty much you would only like to see them as far away as possible. You don't feel any cultural connection with them, for you they are like monkeys in the jungle. I am not suprised they want away from Ukraine ASAP.

You don't forsake a bunch of your population to a crazy wannabe dictator just because a few in your population are rowdy vocal hooligans.

I don't really see a source for this. Is this just a Russian language web poll?

Anti-Kiev forces detain Ukrainian officer transporting BM-21 Grad shells to Markovka. Use of such weaponry would be a WarCrime.

War crime? Where do you get that from? Those are still used by Russia and China, and are no different from carpet bombing.
