But the thing is - lost of people barely even read others posts, or even if they do they don't feel like meriting someone due to rivalry. But I like the conception and I hope that it will go off well.

Yes I agree with you. merit system surly helps to maintain the quality of this forum. Before every one could say anything but still he could up ranked, now you can't do it here. you have to make quality posts for it. so eventually forum becomes a quality place . So merit system is good. It shouldn't be removed.

I really dont see any difference from before or after merit.
But at least it gives more trust to the higher ranks actually knowing what they are talking about over time.
When i see a post from a high rank member i still check his merit though, alot of them have not received any (or little) merit and are just holding the rank because they got in early.

Its a good thing trading of merit has been banned. It totally defeat the aim of what this platform stands for.

merit trade is not worth it, because merit it is a tribute to people who make a good thread, if there is merit trade then no objective again about the rewards for the people who make a good thread ...

Merit trading is definitely an unacceptable practice. Given how hard it is to get any merit I think that the cut off point for where you need merit points should be at member not a junior member.

A lot of people are stuck at junior member as it is now. Obviously they would be stuck at member in stead, but that seems fair to me.

maybe that seems fair to you, but I bet members would find it unfair, and ask for cut off at full member
Its just right to have that kind of cut-off so the forum wont really be flooded by new members just to sign up and join up bounty campaigns or abusing giveaways and other related stuff. Actually I do see your merit history and seems like you do have lots of friends passing up merit for sometime its quite shady.

Really? I suggest you investigate it thoroughly, maybe you learn something in the process

I specially suggest mining altcoins subforum, I helped quite a lot people there

Very interesting to see the reactions to the newly introduced concept of merit as an additional indicator of account maturity and quality beyond just pure number of posts / activity. While this was introduced to increase post quality it has of course created a counter movement and a market place for "trading" merit - for money.
So this is just a reminder for everyone that the introduction of merit is a GOOD thing because it will help improve the quality of this forum for everybody.

"Trading" merit will undermine this and render it eventually useless.

You are right. Merit can help everyone to become more knowledgeable by posting with quality and informative topics/posts. It will reduced none sense topic and can stop forum member to create account just do spamming and trolling. It is difficult to earn merit but it was very helpful.

Merit was made to determine one's post quality.
If someone buys and sells merit it means that he abuses the system.
I can guess that Merit trading is forbidden and those who try to trade Merit will probably get their thread to be deleted.

Merit also very helpful as it gives users the option to thank other users for their posts.
An ability that wasn't available before.
I agree, the problem is the meaning of the post with many users, but buying merit is abusive.
Merit has made new members stuck with their rank.
this is very difficult and seems unfair. old members are more benefited with this system.
I believe "truth" and "purity" always win here.
Although it is unfair to the members together
But it is certain that people who bring good value to the community are welcome. Is not it you?
Who help me then help me again. Who gave me the good thing also.
So we should not be too hard on ourselves.

Merit is for the people who post something that is a quality post. That means it is better than the other posts. Merit should not be shared to anyone who uses bitcoin because it is a reward for him for posting something that is unique and that have a sense. I think merit trading, buying and selling is not a goos idea because it's just like people who post dont take it seriously because they can get a merit without even posting better reply. Merit trading should not be approved and those who trade, buy and sell must be banned.

The problem here is that the attitude of the new members that are willing to pay for merit instead of earning it, as most of the would want to get profits quickly while sacrificing quality on their work which is the main reason the merit system was implemented. Also the members who give merit to other members are quite few as I have seen very good topics and post that were not awarded with merit just because members will not get something from it.

Nobody didn't expect form Bitcointalk but we have to obey their TOS before posting anything. Yes, now it is very difficult for the Newbies to become members and even though they are posting quality content people are not getting any merits for it.

The beauty is  that  the  regulators  will  continue  improving  the  system thus  cabbing such  issues. all  we  need  is  time we  are  still  in  the  early  stages  and  we  are  prone  to  such  issues.

As stated above the new merit system for upgrading account would further ensure quality posts and prevent the influx of spam account creators on here but on the other hand it would further deter new members of this forum who are really interested in contributing as these merits can only be allocated to member by other members based on the allocators discretion on whether the post is worthy of a merit or not. In my opinion the moderators should have being the ones in charge of awarding these merits where every reasonable post can be automatically awarded and irrelevant posts ignored. I have a recent case of a friend who resulted to posting bounty articles on here to further boost his rank but got not even a single merit as no one really cares about those posts and/or most people wouldn't want to give out their hard earned merits just like that.

merit system don't work.. for example i write a lot of translation for a lot of project and make some guide but none of this post was merited... so my possibility to go up in the rank it's 0..
Looking at your post here, it's pretty obvious why you're not earning it.  Your English sucks, and if you're writing like this in other sections don't expect any.  Not sure what translations have to do with merit earning either, or why you even care about it.  Did you come here for the chat or to rank up?  What are you complaining about?

You'll never catch me complaining about the merit system, or even about sales.  Those people will burn themselves out eventually and the merit tap will run dry.

Having an informative or useful post does not mean you'll get a merit.  I've seen exceptional posts that did not even get a single merit. It's like you'll have more chances getting hit with a lightning than getting a merit here so it's not surprising that members are thinking ways where they can get merits faster.
I partly agree with you guy. There is no doubt that merit is a helpful tool in this forum, giving – receiving among user and the writer maybe show the appreciation or grateful for answering. Often, people in this forum has the perpective that one can get merit with highly quality posting, but I think it’s not really like that.  It’s rather a tough way for one to get merit. Yep, perhaps if one can earn merit, it’s because  you are lucky enough to be seen your posts and give you merit. Besides, almost people who got a big amount of merit, they’re much more likely to get better, because always the readers strongly believe and focus on their posting. Thus buying merit is not really an abuse, but it's one's intelegence because they know how to get merit faster.

Merit system was good idea but unfortunately like everything very quickly people have found the way how to abuse it.
It's completely wrong to buy/sell merit and by such actions it  has lost any sense but I also can't think of some way this could be put under control. I guess it's on the concious of every forum member.

I think the introduction of this system was a good decision since many people are way too eager to rank up and sometimes they post just for the sake of posting without really feeling the need to add something to the discussion. At the same time though I think this system is not very fair to new members. Newbies and Jr. Members are often treated poorly and not taken seriously, not many people will ever consider giving merit to a Newbie for example. I recently discovered the crypto community and now I'm here to stay so this thing won't affect me too much but from what I've seen merits are not always given fairly

Yeah i agree with this, i am trying to help the newbies here but as you said the new system is not fair for Jr.members as merits aren't given fairly.
