A good coin has something unique, has a clear goal / roadmap, and doesn't ask for a shitload of money through an ICO before being able to show anything.

Read read read and learn learn learn. Then ask many many.u questions. Do not take what devs say right to heart if they sound suspicious question them. A good coin has a Dev who is active and then answers your questions. If they abois them be careful.
Take it slow as well don't forget diving head first into deaths jaws.

The main and the key thing before investing , mining or anything else is to explore the theme, gather all the facts about it and dive deep into the atmosphere of crypto - by doing these you will provide yourself with the core understanding and this will rise your chances to do well in altcoins.

Since you are a newbie to Altcoins, I suggest that you really need to search through the internet first of all about alt coins. The meaning of it and what benefits, usage, advantages and disadvantages of this organization. Second, you really need to search the types of altcoins. Read more blogs about each and every alt coins you encountered. It will really help you to know their purpose. After all the research and readings you can now decide on what alt coins you will invest.

The investment advice is the same as in any other field: don't invest more that 30% of money you have in one project/ one altcoin or one currency, etc. Diversification is the king.

Something I've leaned about startup investing: investors give money to 10 startup and best case scenario only 1 of them will fire up. So, they buy a package, not one thing, hoping 1 out of the package will cover all the expenses. So, don't put all eggs in one basket. And don't overestimate your chances. It'll make you go crazy and upset all the time. Investing is more like giving money away. None can tell you what's gonna happen. Kind of a lottery.

Hi there, I'm new to altcoins. Anyone has some usefull tips? Or a strategy that worked for you? Smiley
I must say that you should read and learn as much about Altcoins as you can as that information will be really useful for you at beginning. After that go and check the markets by reading data of the rates of 1-4 months and check if you see any changes in the rates. If the rates is mostly increasing then you should bear in mind that the rates will continue increasing. But not only that, you should also continue reading and researching about the particular Altcoin before investing any money. You may also notice the fees because if you're new to trading then fees can be somewhat unbearable at first but as you start gaining some good profits then you will be good at that. Last but not least, experience is always better then blindly following strategies.

I'd suggest that you check out the top listed coins on exchanges. You can refer here: https://coinmarketcap.com/
After you picked a coin that you think that suits your taste then make a research about those coins before you engage on buying. Researching is very important because you will know more about the coin that you want to hold and on the long run helps you decide if it is a good coin or not.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good old coin to mine that is still kind of profitable?
I think Ethereum, Litecoin is a very profitable altcoin to invest and Ethereum is also profitable for mining.

I am trying to mine some ETH now, I haven't thought much about LTC recently. Thanks for the suggestions!

The two things I'd suggest: remember price can go down as well as up - quite violently with altcoins. Don't buy into a pump, and really, if you look at it with detachment the pumps are pretty obvious. For example the Bitcoin Cash pump was obviously out of Korea, such concentration in a relatively narrow section of the market (basically 2 exchanges) should ring alarm bells. Avoid that and you're halfway there.
In my opinion, if you have good skills in trading, earn profit with altcoin pumped very easy, because this situation usually have waves up and corretion price. You can surf that waves and enjoy your profit.

The world of altcoys is a special world of the digital currency. Each coin of altcoyins originated in their individual conditions and these features need to be known before investing in these coins. Invest in a few coins to reduce the risk of loss. You need to know about the capitalization of each coin, its course and movements in the last period. This information is available here: https://coinmarketcap.com.

if you want to trade with low risk, trade a coin with high marketcap like ETH,XRP,DASH. those are quite stable.
or if you want to trade with high risk, choose any low marketcap coin, higher the risk higher the profit

Taking a calculative risk is very important because if you invest in any coin than chances are that instead of going up generally such coins are dumped badly and it may not rise and you will lose your money. Its better you invest in some known coins where chances of making profit is higher which is more secured and almost guaranteed.

I think it's hard if you are a beginner to trade or investment right away.
you will be confused with everything, yes I think so if you are right a beginner.
most precisely is you learn and read a lot of posts in this forum. it's better than you plunge directly to berdagan or make an investment.

good suggestion for you: develop your account and join altcoins campaigns, you will be able to understand how altcoins world. Good luck Smiley
this is a great advice. Not all of them have campaigns open at this moment.
If you feel like investing in some stabilished and not so expensive coins search Stratis, nem, golem or waves. Some others are good too. My advice is to go with stratis. Do you due diligence first anyway.
If there is campagin out there you could still try other signature campagin where there are new project ICO that is new for the market. I get you point that not all altcoin have an active campagin that could explain the project of their ICO and token. But still there is a lot of other project. And in terms on trading you could check the stock of an altcoin or the volume if you want to try in investing on trading.
