^^^ Prithvi Shaw already got his chance with the Indian team and he wasted it. I hope the selectors give a chance to Devdutt Padikkal now. He has been performing on a consistent basis, both for RCB and for the Karnataka state side. And it is surprising that Virat Kohli, who has shown nepotism for RCB players such as Saini and Siraj never supported Devdutt. Both Shaw and Padikkal are of the same age, and can be future superstars in international cricket.

Some impressive numbers in Vijay Hazare trophy. Looks like management did good by dropping Shaw from the national team, he was going through really bad form, now he's in good touch and soon he will be knocking the selectors door. Devdutt Padikkal is asking some tough questions too, just look at the averages!

I agree with you too. Many local players will not get salary if Ranji Trophy is not held. But the BCCI does not seem to be concerned about these issues. They will look at their own earning side first and then think about the local players. Wait and see what BCCI will decide about these domestic players.

Since the contract system is not there, it will be difficult to distribute the compensation even if the BCCI decides to offer some relief for the players. For the past few years, there were ongoing talks regarding domestic contracts. But as far as I know, none of the teams have implemented it so far. Even before the pandemic, the domestic player salaries in India were really low, when compared to Australia or England (or for that matter even when compared to New Zealand or South Africa). And now the situation has become much worse.

Of course, IPL is more important for BCCI because BCCI earns a very large amount of their revenue from IPL. On the other hand, 38 teams participated in the Ranji Trophy. This is a very big tournament. Organizing this tournament requires a lot of preparation. On the other hand, organizing IPL is much easier than that.

My only concern is about the domestic players. Only a few dozen out of the hundreds of domestic players have IPL contracts. So in case the Ranji Trophy is cancelled, will the BCCI pay full salaries to them? As far as I know, the salaries are paid according to the number of matches played, as there is no contract system in the domestic sector. So obviously if the tournament is cancelled, then the players will be left high and dry. And in case the BCCI is making some sort of payment, how it is going to distribute the same between the players?

BCCI is more concentrating more on IPL compared to Ranji trophy because, in this way, they are finding the talent in IPL. If they announce Ranji most of the new players will not participate in IPL, exactly, a fair amount of players will not available for IPL season.

One of the problems might be, JSRAW mentioned that there are 38 teams playing the tournament which means 15 to 18 member players each team and their coaching and other staff and the total would over around 900 people and it is a huge amount of people to be take care during a bubble. To take care a group like that they need the staff and doctors of an entire hospital which is not feasible and practical.

In that case they should have cancelled the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well. For the SMA trophy also a total of 38 teams participated and the total contingent numbered close to 1,000 players. It can be said that T20 format is easier to manage compared to the 4-day format. But for as far as I am concerned, once a bio-secure bubble is established, it doesn't matter whether they are keeping it for one month or three months. After all, many of these domestic cricketers are out of job for almost one year. They are not going to complain.

This is quite a suprise, skipping Ranji trophy is something I did not expect from BCCI but the good thing is introducing the women ODI tournament. This will surely give boost to women cricket in india and it might be possible for them to introduce women IPL later.

They are not starting any new tournament. The women's ODI and T20 competitions were already there. It is not something that was started this year. But the decision to scrap Ranji trophy is going to be devastating for the emerging players. Not everyone gets a chance to play in the IPL and for such players the Ranji Trophy was the best opportunity to showcase their skills. I fail to understand why it was cancelled, despite the low infection levels in India.
My understanding is that they need at least 2.5 or 3 months for Ranji season and IPL coming in April, fair amount of domestic players wont be available for IPL in this case and second reason is majority of states were favoring the ODI tournament due to Bio-secure bubble as its not easy to put 38 teams to put into bubble for 3 months.

The point is that they are already creating this bio-secure bubble for 1 month. Then why can't they extend it to another month, and get the Ranji Trophy completed as well (a shortened version at least)? Most of the international teams need to remain in bubbles for 2-3 months at a time. And I don't think that the domestic players have any issues with that. Even if they have issues, they are free to opt out.

The bio bubble and the difficulty to monitor everything might not be easy and so is the reason they are skipping the Ranji season but will put the players in a difficult position as they wont be getting the payment and whether BCCI will compensate them is unknown.

Senior and experienced players refused to play the series on the pretext of the epidemic. But this is just an excuse. They always value the franchise game more than the international series. I think this is why the senior players did not visit Bangladesh.
Some of the West Indies players are playing in the Big Bash but not sure whether all the main players are playing the tournament. The players are earning a much bigger purse than playing for the international team and you cannot blame them as they are players coming from different countries playing under the West Indies banner but it is unfortunate to see that the team is getting weaker every year.

They could have gone for a shortened tournament, which would last 1-1.5 months. Ranji Trophy is the most important domestic tournament, and I believe that the decision to cancel it once again shows the low importance that the BCCI gives for longer format of the game. For T20, we already have IPL. But there is no such equivalent for 4/5 day cricket.

Exactly, test cricket or I say the longer format of cricket actually shows the class of a cricketer, their fitness, endurance and way they tackle challenges.

If the West Indies squad does not change, they will not be able to qualify for the next World Cup. If the West Indies play against Afghanistan with this squad, Afghanistan will be able to defeat them very easily. They need to get their senior and experienced players back on the field quickly
Why the West Indies board sent an inexperienced team, is it because of the current pandemic restrictions and playing other tournaments, if that is the case it is really unfortunate. The series was dominated by Bangladesh and it is good to see Shakib Al Hasan returning to the team and he did not miss much cricket either because of the pandemic.
Senior and experienced players refused to play the series on the pretext of the epidemic. But this is just an excuse. They always value the franchise game more than the international series. I think this is why the senior players did not visit Bangladesh. This is Shakib's first series after a 1-year ban. He played great throughout the series
WI Cricket Board should to be strict on the pretext of the epidemic where other Cricket Board give us nice example. Anyway, It’s a great chance to improve in test cricket for Bangladesh team. Shakib Al Hasan set to make his Test return vs West Indies and hopefully he will perform well & impact in the all rounder performance & possibly win the series as well.
Currently West Indies is completely crap and no one expecting any good performance from them in test series as they already whitewashed in ODI so same result is going to happen in test series but good for Bangladesh as now they are going more better with Shakib after winning this series their confidence surely more high they can do some more better in near future.
Bangladesh is not a good team for the Test format. Bangladesh does not have more experienced players for the Test format. However, I think Bangladesh will win the Test match against the West Indies. The West Indies players are very inexperienced. Most of the players are new. If West Indies can draw any Test match in this series, I think it will be a big achievement for them

BCCI had their meeting yesterday on home season, it turns out they are leaving Ranji this year and going with the Vijay Hazare (ODI) and Women ODI tournament after Sayed Mustaq Ali Trophy.
