T20s may kill the essence of cricket but boards still prefer playing test matches in more numbers.
I don't think T-20's are destroying the essence of Cricket. Instead, it is the reverse. The T-20 format reignited my love for Cricket just like majority of the Cricket fans out there. Tests and ODIs are very boring these days though they still have a niche.

If it were up to me, I would reorganize the yearly schedule as 80% T-20 matches and 20% ODI and Tests. Entertainment wise, T-20 Cricket is heads and tails better than the rest.

In opinion both T10 and T20 will be played more than any other Cricket Format as they both would be generating the same level of excitement. I do not think T20 will be played less as there are too many tournaments being played in this format. T6 super sides did not generate any response as in my opinion you need minimum 10 overs to get a decent score on the board.
I guess there was a T10 tournament in UAE last year and it wasn't so excited and entertaining at all; beginning of t20 was far better excited and entertaining. Chances of t10 getting popular is too low as the competition won't be existed anymore in the match. Most of them will be unbalanced; one-sided.

Exactly hardly I had heard about it that time of T10 and did not even seen people speaking much about it. This itself show the engagement with people is not much as compared to T20. Also if you want to enjoy a game with some skills to be visible by batsman and blowers you require some overs so that they can bowl and bat .

Did you watch that tournament? If you have not then you should once. Here is the link to final match https://youtu.be/v7riLd45OZA
It was played between Maratha Arabian and Deccan Gladiator. I enjoyed it so did  others considering the view counts on YouTube and the number of subscribers they have from just one tournament.

I personally feeling currently twenty/20 is really best entertainment for cricket lovers and if someone feeling Ten/10 league or 100 Balls can replace then surely its very difficult because in these formats you are not going to have any serious entertainment its just blast which is not good but few boards are trying for different experiments then surely its their right and can carry on hopefully we all will be able to watch this all then able to talk about this all.
Cricket never can be a full-of-rush kind of game. If you start finding boring then you may get yourself bored even with super-over finish up. Just remember there are people who still love test cricket. The real excitement of watching cricket is not only in sixes and fours but how a batsmen/bowlers adopts themselves in one particular day and how they perform. This way I have enjoyed lots of times with low score matches.

In my opinion, cricket is all about temperament and level of passion. Because, you do not need to hit bounties on all six balls of an over but just taking singles and waiting for a loose ball to hit a bounty is more than enough to win a match and to entertain the spectators.

T20s may kill the essence of cricket but boards still prefer playing test matches in more numbers. We cannot predict the future who knows, by 2050 people might be playing only five/5 as they may not have time to play/watch cricket for continuous 3/4 hours.

The reason why many feel that T20 and other shorter formats interesting is that even a mediocre team can give a tough fight against a strong team as the overs are limited. So almost all the matches are more or less interesting when it comes to shorter formats. so yeah the main focus of the Boards will be on shorter formats. But if the same mediocre team goes against a strong team in ODI/Test, it will be one-sided and a bit boring. But if the team are evenly matched in ODIs/Tests, then it will be an absolute delight to watch.

T10 is not the real game of cricket because you hardy can do in that number of overs and also not every player will get a chance to show their skills too. T20 is something which is more or less the perfect shorter game and anything shorter would not be real entertaining as well. Also consider that crowd which comes to watch from various cities in the stadium in traffic may take much longer to and for distance than just to watch T10 match in stadium. So this would not be the real incentive for them too.

The shorter the game the more excitement it will generate. People were saying the same when about T20 when it was introduced and now everyone prefers watching T20 than any other form of cricket. In my opinion it will be great for us to see International players playing this T10 in a ICC tournament.

If this T10 tournament grabbed attention, then i am afraid this will be the end of T20. I don't think two almost identical formats (t10 and t20) can co-exists and have same interest in the game.
If this got popularity, do you think we will have two world cups every year one or two, one for T20 and other for T10  Huh

T20 and One day international matches caused the downfall of Test cricket and if T10 is a success then I think one day cricket and test cricket will take a major hit than T20. Crowd love excitement, close matches and both T10 and T20 provide it in abundance.

The most to get impacted because of T20 would be test match. As people got the results and excitement in those 3 hours so for them waiting for test match where every ball has to be played as per its merit people got bored and cannot wait for it. So test match are being avoided by people and T20 and ODI still is the best for them. T10 may or may not be that successful as T20.

I raised this point that if T10 becomes popular, the T20 matches will be less just like after the introduction of T20 and ODI, we don't see test matches that often. But it depends if it will be popular or not in the coming months. Also, not to mention that T6  Super sixes tournament was also held every year in Hong kong but it failed to gain any international attention.

^^ What if T-10 or more precisely "The Hundred Ball" format is the future for worldwide adoption? It takes less time and again unpredictable, what if "The Hundred Ball  " witness any sort of success in the England and followed by entry in the Olympics?

T20 is optimal in every department in my opinion. However, punters will suffer since this format is truly unpredictable down to the last ball whereas ODI and test matches are predictable to a much larger extent.

From an entertainment standpoint, T10 is way too short which is why I consider T20 optimal. From a betting standpoint, ODI and test formats are the way to go.

It all comes down to what majority of the fans prefer at the end of the day and entertainment is most likely the answer.

so lets cut that to 10 overs and then try to impress new sports fans Tongue Cheesy.
That would destroy the real fun of cricket. We have seen t10 cup some days ago and to be honest, it was kind of bore to me. May be we are not comfortable til now. The duration of three hours is perfect. You are spending above 2 hours behind watching a movie too.

Anything less than 20 overs game will not be entertaining because then it is a one sided show batsmen hitting the four and sixes and they have no fear because they have so many wickets and only 10 overs. This type of cricket is enjoyable for a little time but in the long run i don't think it will be good for the cricket.

^^ Yeah, who knows? Grin Undecided

If it comes down to only one format then obvious choice is T-20, simply because of revenue. Its not entirely possible so the best they can do is scrap unnecessary ODI series completely (Not WC) for more empty schedule and play more t-20, ODI seems time wasting to me anyway except world cup. and introduce some kind of group system in the Test format for competitiveness.

I agree. Both ODI and T20 can be classified as "Limited Over" formats. Earlier, the ODI matches used to consist of 60 overs per innings (until the mid 80s) and then it was reduced to 50 overs. Now let's assume that the duration is further reduced to 20 overs. With the introduction of the T20 format, the 50-over format has lost its relevance. I would not suggest the ICC to drop the test matches, since it represents the traditional cricket format. But ODI can be done away with.
I got bored with the ODI bilateral series after the World Cup. IMO ODI need some new recipe for ex: Quadrilateral and Triangular series instead of Bilateral. BCCI does have some plans regarding this so we might see some action in the near future, controversial policy if you are not one of the 4 nations but seems effective to revive some kind of rivalry in the ODI format.

Test format not going anywhere as long as top 5 nations making some efforts.

~snip~
If you bet on cricket then Test and ODI are the perfect place to wage on multiple options with much lesser risk, i am more happy wagging a bet on the longer format than the T20 format simply because it is really unpredictable and much shorter boundaries but Test is perfect for betting as the pitches are improving and we are seeing results for the past few years which is actually great than a boring draw.
You are right about predictable- unpredictable nature but on the other hand its also true that betting on cricket going up ridiculously after T-20 format.

If ODI is done then there is no way the Test format will survive either, so just drop all other formats and play only T20 as the only sport like JSRAW mentioned but just see the facts, you are not going to attract new fans in developed countries as the game time is still over 3 hours which is really long if you compare the rest of the sports, so lets cut that to 10 overs and then try to impress new sports fans Tongue Cheesy.

The ones that blew me away were Dhoni's bat and the India vs Pakistan 2019 match. This proves that it doesn't get any bigger than an India vs Pakistan match in the world of Cricket. I hope we get to see these teams duke it out more often in the future.
It is highly unlikely we will see any bilateral series between India and Pakistan anytime soon and the only place we could expect them to meet is during ICC tournaments and it is really unfortunate for cricket fans as we miss out on one of the biggest rivalries in the sport apart from the Ashes.
In last few years we have a lot of money and politics in cricket so just because of this we lost spirited cricket and gentleness of cricket now its all about money and power Big 3 bring many changes and now we have to face few facts about this so its really sad now we have to wait for these teams only in ICC events.
