The first shocking loss of Arne Slot era has happened. Nobody expected Liverpool to have even have a chance that they would lose to Notthingham Forrest but it did happen and that's the sad part. I think it's clear that we are going to end up seeing this situation change quite a lot and I believe that we are going see many more of these happen in the future as well, feels like Liverpool definitely looks not that much worse since Klopp left, but not suddenly a great dominant team neither.
It would have been ideal for them if they lost to some bigger club but in the end they would have lost eventually so they just got that out of the way. Same week, we see United and Chelsea both get a win, two teams that are dealing with a lot of chaos right now, so it's definitely a good thing for them without a doubt. Specially United, who looked quite convincing while they were winning as well.
At least, with this defeat experienced by Liverpool, it will make competition in the upper zone of the standings more difficult, because so far at least their points are still close together. Although indeed, there is still Manchester City which is consistent with the results of winning in each match, but that does not mean Manchester City will not experience bad results or surprising results like Liverpool experienced. Thus, I personally hope that no team really goes alone at the top of the standings, because that will make the league uncompetitive.
But indeed, with this defeat it might also be a big concern for Liverpool's next matches, whether Arne Slot will still be able to make Liverpool consistent with good results, or maybe there will be an up and down phase and if that happens, then Liverpool will be left behind in the title race this season.
Liverpool's loss is one of those moments that might alter the title race dynamics. While Manchester City seemed to be the most consistent team, if Liverpool can lose a game like that, then it shows even the biggest teams can slip. It actually makes the league more interesting and keeps it shrouded in doubt because no one can be certain that a single team will not face challenges.
I agree that Liverpool need to take heed from this loss, more so to keep their consistency intact in the future. Arne Slot will for sure get more attention, for the pressure on him to keep his team on the winning track will be even greater. In case Liverpool are unable to build upon their momentum especially while up against other strong teams, then they might as well forget about catching up in the race for the title. Otherwise, if they can just correct mistakes and put better performance into next match, chances to remain competitive are still very much open.
