Hi guys, a little question for you as i see the odds for the games in the post above me, i want to ask you about that.

Is Rugby a ""safe"" to bet sport on favorites? Or is like in any other sport? And as i dont like to bet on the favorites and i like to go more into underdogs, is easy to see some surprise results with good odds?.

For example Racing metro odds to win are 6.5, can have value?

Only Stade Francais and Vannes didn't win their games all the other favourites did so.

In Japan, Shizuoka, Canon Eagles, Wild Knights and Suntory all won their matches.

The Lion's tour isn't until August, but the odds are against Australia ($2.50) with the English and Irish Lions favoured at $1.55 to win.  (drawn series is going for $26)

France Pro D2 and European Rugby Champions Cup match again this week end.

European Rugby Champions Cup

Glasgow ($1.09) Vs Racing Metro 92 ($6.50)
Stormers ($1.28) Vs Sale ($3.40)
Exeter ($7.50) Vs Bordeaux ($1.07)
Sharks ($3.70) Vs Toulouse ($1.25)
Munster ($1.75) Vs Saracens ($2.00)
Stade Francais ($3.10) Vs Northampton ($1.34)
Castres ($1.45) Vs Blue Bulls ($2.65)
Leicester ($1.08) Vs Ulster ($7)
Toulon ($1.28) Vs Harlequins ($3.40)
Bristol ($1.09) Vs Benetton ($6.50)
La Rochelle ($2.50) Vs Leinster ($1.50)
Bath ($1.10) Vs Clermont ($6.20)

France Pro D2

Grenoble ($1.11) Vs Montauban ($6)

No doubt there's others to follow.

I had only one bet on for the weekend on the French Top14, that was La Rochelle v Toulouse
with the massive outsiders Toulouse to win, they went out to 11.0 so I jumped on that with a
small wager and it all seemed like a very enticing wager

But damnit it was a close match with La Rochelle edging the win with a last gasp penalty kick
to win by 3, failing that it was going to a draw.

Just goes to show that there are so many things which can go for or against a team in Rugby,
I would say more so than in Soccer?

So far this week I've won just three pics:

Cardiff RFC, Scarlets and the Harlequins.  (At least I got most of my money back on the Cardiff game)

Favourites to win are:

Toulon
Castres
Lyon
Montpellier
Stade Francais
La Rochelle
Vannes
Gloucester
Leicester
Saracens
Northampton

No losses as yet.

That was a close one between the Dragons and Cardiff, I honestly didnt think
it was going to be that close.

Cardiff are back at it again on New Years day, Round 9 and they play the Ospreys,
they are favourites again at 1.37, They should win this one too!

One other match to finish Round 9 on Wednesday - Scarlets v Dragons. I'm not
betting on this, IMO it could go either way.

Those two matches caught me out particularly Cardiff v Ospreys, ended up a
draw match and Scarlets trounced the Dragons 32-15, I didnt bet on that one anyway.

No URC, Challenge Cup or Champions Cup this weekend but the French Top14
are at it tomorrow. There is a match which really stands out for me....

La Rochelle 1.05 v 9.60 Toulouse - I'm a bit surprised at those odds and I think
Toulouse are worth a small bet at those odds, they are in top position ATM.

The Win/Draw/Loss figures for both are:
Toulouse 9/1/3
La Rochelle 7/0/6

Jeez Timelord, you are betting on Japanese Rugby, thats great, I havent seen
any listed, I might not be searching hard enough though  I'm happy with whats
going on here in Europe.

Four games in the Japan League One today I've put $5 one each of the favourites:

Black Rams Vs Suntory ($1.25)
Urayasu D-rocks Vs Shizuoka ($1.34)
Wild Knights ($1.14) Vs Spears Kubota
Toyota Verblitz ($1.09) Vs Honda Heat

1 final match today in the URC Wales

Dragons v Cardiff - have to fancy the away team, they are currently in 5th spot on the table,
odds are 1.47 which is good.

My money was on Cardiff ($1.50) and they won!  Leinster ($1.22) beat Munster, while Bristol should have gone to the Boxing Day SALEs...

Back at it again this weekend with round 8 of the URC, and its all derby matches again.

Munster v Leinster - Leinster should win this one but battles between these two can
always be close affairs

Stormers v Sharks - Stormers are favourite probably because they are at home, there
could very well be an upset here. Sharks are @ 2.56.

Edinburgh v Glasgow - after last weeks washout I cant see the warriors lose this
one too.

I had a parlay that paid out over $9 if/when Glasgow won - it was certainly a nice pick up to recover the outlays on a handful of others that went against the favorites.

I just got up to find Lyon and Toulouse draw 17-17. Earlier, Glasgow won against Edinburgh. I haven't had a chance to look up the scores, but it looks like most of the favourites won their games (including the Japanese fixtures I put money on).

A draw in Rugby is a rare-ish result, we can get massive odds on such a result
but yea I dont think I ever bet on a draw.

Maybe possibly a draw would be more common for derby matches where two
sides are evenly matched but the most likely outcome is a 1 point difference.

Glasgow v Edinburgh - it was easy for Glasgow, they are a top side ATM and defending
champions. It was 21-6 at half time!

I just have a few bets on the URC this weekend, I went with 3 bets, 1 from each
country participating, kind of safe ones...so ATM i'm 3 from 5.

Leinster to beat Connacht
Benetton to beat Zebre - I didnt think it would have been so close
Sharks to beat the Bulls
Scarlets to beat Ospreys - another close one but against my pick

and starting shortly Glasgow to beat Edinburgh....

....and no relegation process, soon it will be a massive league with extra games to be played by each team
which is not great in managing health and safety.

It just comes down to greed on the part of Nine Entertainment and the NRL Executive (and of course the TAB betting website).  Sport is one of the only reasons people watch commercial television here in Australia any more, so more sport = more viewers.  I'm wondering how many teams are in the NFL or the EPL?  At least the EPL has relegation which makes teams more competitive.

In the European Rugby Championship there was another upset, a close one, Benetton beat the favourites Bath
by 1 point - 22-21!

In the challenge cup Connacht did go on to beat Perpignon, it was a risk betting on them @ 2.28 with no Internationals
playing but its all good, its a win but only sorry I didnt wager more!

United Championship gets back up and running this coming weekend with all domestic derby games

I'm just about the log in and see the scores - I had a look during the weekend and there has been very few upsets.

In a landmark, world first sports diplomacy deal, the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has confirmed an agreement with the Australian Government to fund a 10-year Pacific Rugby League Partnership.

The Pacific Pacific Rugby League Partnership will support investment into grassroots, pathways and elite rugby league across Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa and Fiji. It will also support the introduction of a PNG-based NRL side as part of a future expanded NRL Telstra Premiership.

ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys AM said the deal was a watershed moment for rugby league and the Pacific region.

“This is an historic step for Rugby League, Australia, PNG and the entire Pacific,” Mr V’landys said.

“Rugby league is the number one sport in the Pacific. This new Club will solidify Rugby league’s role as the unifying language of our region."

V’landys said the funding would be directed into programs that would transform lives and communities across the Pacific.

“Roughly half the funding in this historic agreement with the Federal Government will go to grassroots football and community programs in PNG. It will also flow across the Pacific, including to Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.

“The Pacific Rugby League Partnership will help improve school retention, foster national cohesion, and provide opportunities for young people to be their best selves. We know when rugby league is on the curriculum, kids go to school – and that changes lives.

“Rugby league isn’t just sport, it’s a social force for good – a way to improve lives and build stronger communities.

“The new PNG team provides the NRL with a new 10 million+ audience many who will go from being causal fans into engaged fans.

“Just as importantly the pathways investments will provide many new and exciting players to the game.

“I thank Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, PNG Prime Minister James Marape, Pat Conroy and their respective governments for having the vision to understand rugby league’s unique capacity to bind and build communities.”

First match this round - Castres v Munster was always going to be a close one and
the narrow favourites are beaten - can we call that an upset? maybe not Castres 16-14 Munster.

But yea here we go, yesterdays second match Bulls v Northampton. Home favourites
Bulls were beaten by Northampton 21-30 - thats an upset.

Re: European Challenge cup - I havent even looked that far yet. My team Connacht
visit Perpignon which they should win on paper but none of their international players
are on the team. Odds 1.59 - 2.28.

So far this week-end only Sale and the Blue Bulls have lost their games with the other more favoured teams winning their encounters.

Toulouse, Toulon, the Saracens and Bath are yet to play as the more heavily backed teams.

In Australian NRL, it's official that PNG will officially enter the competition in 2028 after a $600M defense and trade carrot was dangled (it'll let you decide who enticed whom in that one) touted as the "Pacific Rugby League Partnership".

Ah I am not doing any parlays on this round, I have never had any luck on parlays,
maybe 1 or 2 but the majority of them failed unfortunately.

While I cant see any upsets from the fixtures this weekend, there will surely be at
least 1 to scuttle a parlay.

Personally I think add extra systems into the parlay just makes it more complicated,
I like simple!

Yeh Munster lost me a parlay on the European Rugby Champion's Cup... Sale won their match with the rest to play out over the rest of the week-end.

In the European Challenge Cup, I just scraped in bets before kick off

Lyon ($1.42) Vs Zeb
Montpellier ($1.23) Vs Osprey
 Lions ($1.05) Vs Pau ($8.50)
Vannes ($1.24) Vs Gloucester ($3.80)
Cardiff RFC ($1.27) Vs Cheetahs ($3.50)
