The Rabbitohs week goes from worse to worst with one of their key players out for the weeks after two dangerous tackles over the weekend.

After five weeks of game play in first place are the Dolphins, Cowboys, Storm and Sharks on eight points (the Cowboys have played five games whilst the others three just four games each)

In seconplace on six points are the Raiders, Warriors, Sea Eagles, Panthers and Tigers (the latter having played four fixtures while the others have played five)

In third place are six teams - five games, four points.

Then fourth place wooden spooners Titans (four games) and Rabbitohs (five games and just one win on two points.

I don't think there was anything specific - just the Eels aren't playing that well at the moment.

For round six of the 2024 NRL season - My pics are

Roosters ($2.40)
Bulldogs ($6.20)
Dolphins ($3.20)
Warriors ($1.52)
Cowboys ($1.62)
Sharks ($1.40)
Tigers ($1.80)
Raiders ($1.30)

The Dolphins Vs Broncos game is being dubbed the "Battle of Brisbane" (a reference to the rots in Brisbane during WWII) - I think with a few injuries, the Broncos are going to be pipped at the post by the Dolphins.

Thats a massive score by the Raiders! Were the Eels short of some players due to Injury?

In the European Champions Rugby all my bets are in the Green and the parlay was good
also, toulouse beat Racing 92 so set up a quarter final against Exeter. Northampton beat
Munster to set up a quarter final match against the Bulls

The Bulls are the only South African tean left in the tournament and Leinster are the
only Irish side. 3 teams each for France and England.

I'll be shouting for Leinster, Its great to see they have a home tie against rivals
La Rochelle and are favourites at 1.37!

Quote
how did you pick that one?

A little bit of hearing the local news of the injury list plus suspecting the Panthers glory is waneing.

The only one I got wrong this week was the Bulldogs win. I wouldn't write them off just yet - they've put in solid performances this year and I figure they'll be top eight for most of the year (along with the sea eagles). The Dolphins / Tigers game was fairly routine and low scoring keeping the Dolphins at the top of the ladder and the Tigers ahead of others.

The Knights slayed the Dragons (never gets old saying that) while the last game of the round by the last twenty minutes became what seemed a practice session - I was surprised when the Eels scored a late try which they then failed to convert. Just to run it in, Canberra at their home ground scored more field goals and tries to win 41 - 8.

Sea Eagles over the Panthers (I think earlier I said the Panthers - am a little bit undecided)

Wow, how did you pick that one? it happened! 32 - 18 !

In the European Rugby Championship I am 1.5 from 2 so far, the favourites have won
yesterday Bordeaux Begeles and Leinster. I need Toulouse to beat Racing 92 today for
my parlay.

Leinster play old rivals La Rochelle in the quarter finals next! these two have contested
the last 2 finals with la Rochelle winning both, Leinster will be looking to break that streak!

I was just looking at those games. - I got my bets in just before game one of this week's NRL matches.

Melbourne and Brisbane are neck and neck at the start of the second half - Adam Reynolds has just limped off and the games dynamics have completely changed. 18 - 16 to the Broncos after 50 minutes.

Other pics this week are

Roosters (only just)
Knights,
Warriors
Sea Eagles over the Panthers (I think earlier I said the Panthers - am a little bit undecided)
Dolphins (only just overcoming the Tigers)
Cowboys
Raiders.

That match between Melbourne and Brisbane was something else, a total of 66 points scored
between the two of them! the highlights were literally action packed, some class scoring.
Adam Reynolds will be a massive loss to the Broncos, its looking like a "Serious knee injury"

It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins v Wests Tigers go, particularly for the Tigers,
after years and years of being at the bottom of the ladder there might be a chance of something
different for them this season. I think this game is crucial for them.

Odds are Dolphins 1.56 v 2.60 Wests Tigers - You think its going to be a close match?

European Champions Cup [Heineken Cup][Investec Champions Cup]

Starting tomorrow, these are my picks, hopefully they play out, I'm mostly picking group toppers
of each group for wins this weekend:

Bordeaux Begles v Saracens - Table toppers from Pool 1 with 1 of 4 matches lost, Saracens in
4th spot on the table. Bordeaux are priced at 1.29

Stade Toulousain v Racing 92 - Again Pool 2 toppers Toulouse who are unbeaten against Racing 92
who ended in 4th spot priced at 6.2 Racing are a quality side but their price suggest they are big
long shots for a win so I'm not risking it, they have only won 1 of 4 matches. Toulouse @ 1.14 [not great]

Northampton v Munster - this is a tricky one, I would like to go with Munster for the win @ 3.35 but
there is a question over the availability of Nash and Snyman if they are fit to play I will back them.

Leinster v Leicester - Unbeaten Leinster are favourites @ 1.07, I think I'll do a parlay double with Toulouse
for a bit of value.

I'll post the screen grabs after I get home tonight. After three games in four rounds (plus two points for the bye), the tigers are ahead of the Broncos who have played four weeks straight

The media have been talking up the Tigers for a couple of months, so it's possible their fortunes are changing.

(I've picked up $25 on the tigers winning the 2025 Grand final)

Whao Timelord, thats a big call listing the Tigers in with the Panthers. It would be great
for something different, just as it was with the Broncos and Warriors last year

But

Why do you think the Tigers will at least be in the top half of the ladder?

European champions cup is back on this weekend with the "Round of 16" matches
and the Quarter finals are on next weekend.

I'm looking at the table toppers for wins, Bordeaux Begeles, Toulouse, Northampton
and Leinster.

I watched a Super Pacific Rugby game while the Dolphins were cruising into first place on the NRL ladder. (Fiji also had their sixth straight win - seemingly easy money) 😁

On Monday 47,000 fans packed into the Eels home stadium to witness the Eels miss a field goal two minutes from full time when the scores were locked at 16-16 then moments later, the Tigers kicked a one point field goal to win.

Even the commentators were lost for words when describing how the majority of spectators were chearing the Tigers to victory.

It's still early in the season, but I think the Dolphins, Panthers, Tigers, Warriors, Bulldogs and Broncos will be in the top eight with the Knights, Sea Eagles and probably Canberra and one or two others viewing for the top ten spots.

I'll post a screenshot of the top eight tomorrow before this weekends games.

Ah ok I'm with you now!

Yea I have a feeling the Panthers are making their way up to the number 1 position.

I didnt know the Broncos had players out so yea could be a tough round for them.

URC Round 13

First match up tonight is Leinster v Bulls, the clash if the top 2 teams. Leinster at
hone are still favourites at @1.28, thats probably the vest price they would be all season?

Another very interesting match tomorrow Benetton v Connacht, two teams
positioned 10th and 9th on the table, Connacht have had a mixed season and
Benetton have improved this season and are favourites at 1.27, Connacht at 4.0 -
that just might warrant a small bet on the visitors

And Leinster win quite easily 47-14, their dominance continues.

Benetton 18 - 14 Connacht - that was a close match with Benetton scoring a try on
the 79th minute, a sucker punch to Connacht who had only scored in the 74th
minute to take the lead.

Only 5 more rounds left.

Very shortly, the Bulldogs are going to chase down the Bunnies, then in about four hours, the Cowboys are going to ride the Broncos for all they are worth (the broncos have multiple players off with injury this weekend)

Wow from the Broncos! 38 - 12 massive win for them, hopefully they can continue
to rise to the top.

Rabbitohs win too! as do the Warriors, hopefully they are moving up too.

Dolphins in top spot ATM just like this stage last year but they sank slowly. The ladder
is beginning to take shape now, Green arrows beside the teams we would expect based
on last years performances.

Not much luck this round.  Both the Bulldogs and Cowboys played strong, but were beaten by even stronger opponents.

Tonight, as with last night, the Bulldogs "declined to convert the try" hoping to score in the last 90 seconds.  I never knew that was a thing, and like last night, it didn't work.  Both the Roosters and Bulldogs lost.  (they were going to loose anyway).

At best I'll have five from eight this round.

Thats unreal, I've never heard of that either, what is the thinking? is it a gamble to
save the time in converting the try which I guess is about 2 minutes all in all to then
use that saved time as game play to try score another try? Declining 2 points to hope
to score 4 instead.

Its a big risk and an interesting one at the same time but if you are behind its probably
a good tactic, if it doesnt work out you only drop 2 points difference.

I dont think I have ever seen that tactic taken in the Union game....

Sorry - I was meaning the Parlays.  I saw the first half of the game last night.  The Roosters were favourites to win last night, but after two quick converted tries in four minutes by the Panthers, the Roosters suffered a disallowed try (ball landed just short of the try-line then skidded over the try line with the player doing a full headstand roll over).  In the end, the Roosters caught up (almost) in the last ten minutes to go down 16 - 22 (that disallowed try - plus the missed conversion at full time would have leveled the scores).

Very shortly, the Bulldogs are going to chase down the Bunnies, then in about four hours, the Cowboys are going to ride the Broncos for all they are worth (the broncos have multiple players off with injury this weekend)

I thought you were going to hold off for a week or two?

For the first match I dont think I would bet against the Panthers

Broncos against the Cowboys is an interesting fixture, the Cowboys the only unbeaten side so far
against the Broncos who should be making moves to get back up to the top, the odds suggest it
could be a close one - 2.12 v 1.81

Rabbitohs v Bulldogs - Rabbitohs are favourite to win this and to try and lift themselves off the bottom
of the ladder. If they dont it will be a shocking start to the season for them. 1.51 v 2.90

That was a bit of a mad weekend in the NRL, top teams losing out to teams they should
be beating or matches that should be close affairs ending up white washes. . .

Roosters 48 - 6 Rabbitohs - This should have been closer
Warriors 32 - 0 Titans - For the Titans not to score is crazy,  any team not to score really.
Dragons 24 - 46 Cowboys - 70 point match, the crowd got their moneys worth there.
Wests Tigers 32 - 6 Sharks - Thats a strange result, a lot of bets had to have been lost.

I totally missed out on the URC at the weekend, didnt do ant bets and didnt see any matches,
Round 13 coming up this weekend. I'll post about that later when I see whats happening.

Might want to hold off for a week or two. The Warriors won in the early game last night after loosing in the last minute the week before while the Roosters had plenty to crow about with their emphatic win that was over by half time.

Over in the Super Pacific Rugby, the Brumbies ($1.15) won with something like sixty points against Moana while Fijian Drua ($1.48) beat the Warritahs.

In the UK, Bristol ($2.62) beat Northampton.
