Lol, I've never played esports, but I always get the impression that it's rigged in some way. I've looked into it a few times, but I don't know how it works, so I stick to football and tennis.
heh, i don't blame you, there are so many stories about rigged games, players losing on purpose to make a quick buck in some obscure bookie, managers taking advantage of bugs in the games/softwares, etc, etc...it's shady af but fortunately it is not as prominent in the top leagues

shit, there is a consensus within my friends to boycott AO, so I will skip betting on it (not that I approve boycott, but do not want to have bad karma)

why?
Well, he is from Serbia and I am quite sure you have heard about Djokovic and AO in the last couple of days even if you are without TV, radio and internet Smiley
ah, it all makes sense now  Grin

same, group stage feels like a toss up sometimes... plus, between AO, mid week games in the EPL and also some league cup games and esports, we're gonna have plenty of events to look forward to (:    so yeah, no way i'm adding Afcon games to any of those free bets Sportsbet just gave away  Tongue

eSports are great, more and more money is getting pumped into them and I want to believe that there is no rigging in top divisions. Same like tennis, lower level is full of rigging games for sure. Bookies are still a bit behind on the odds so you can get good value. I got hooked to it during first covid lock down when most sports were on the break.

I am thinking of skipping betting in the last group round. Australian open has started and first day there went much better for me so better to stay with the sport I am actually making money on Smiley

In addition, Cameroon and Burkina Faso have advanced to the next round of the competition, while Cape Verde is on the list of probable qualifiers as the worst losers. V. Aboubakar scored the tournament's 5th goal!!! A fantastic run from a 29-year-old man.

Oh, sorry, I forgot you're new. I'm "Sojourner" on Superbru. .....]
Ohhh, I just saw your rank in the pool, now my challenge is to beat you and Trofo since there is no star prize for the winner, Trofo leapfrogged me in the second round, and I'm only a few points behind him now.

So anybody got any points from Ivory Coast and Algeria matches? I expected those two "known" teams to have an easy way out of the group and then to decide who is first in the last game. As it stands one of them could be out of the tournament very soon. I think there are some 3rd placed teams going trough so maybe there is still time.

Ivory Coast should be fine with making it to the next round, but Algeria are at a real risk of getting eliminated, it's win a burst for them in the last game, and it will be against Ivory Coast.

Today isn't any better in the pool, only two people scored in the fixtures, one person in each game, before checking I was expecting a few people to have gone for draw in the Cameroon vs Cape Verde match, given that Cameroon have qualified already.

yeah, Algeria and Ghana are close to elimination, although I think that Ghana will remain
Algeria road is really tough to stay in, but manageable if they overcome Ivory Coast
The Algerian team entered the competition with the goal of maintaining their dreadful 35-game unbeaten streak; I believe this has gotten into their heads, and they are underestimating their opponents. I'm hoping they're knocked out in the next game against the Ivorians since I have high hopes for them as the reigning champion. They are toothless, and I despise watching them dive for penalties.

Ghana may qualify as the worst losers because they are already three points behind Gabon, who are playing Morocco, who has already qualified for the next round. Morocco's coach may decide to rest some key players, giving Gabon a slight advantage and allowing them to at least draw.

It was better watching for sure but also very bad for my betting bank. Lots of strange results and even under was not a safe bet anymore.
In the second round, I stopped betting on my regular HT under, but the third round will be more profitable on under betting, as most teams only need a draw to advance, thus I'm expecting fewer goals in this final round.

regarding AFCON, Morocco is doing solid so far, and I will support them heading forward, and skip these small island nations on my parlays
with all said, Burkina Faso seems as good value today, Ethiopia is already on a road home

Killed my tickets though, screw them.

Fat chance for me. Day 1 I tried some upsets, but missed all. Day 2 I thought I got smarter, but nope, favourites/strong teams screwed me. Day 3 I'm probably just going to go for favourites again and try to hit exacts. This should be the time they go for broke, or so my flawed logic tells me.

So long as I get another Senegal win, I guess I should be happy to try recoup the 1 mbtc from the outright. Have to feel sorry about anyone taking Algeria... heh.

Nice yellow cap CLS63!

Especially, Algeria's performance has been a big disappointment as they are one of the favourites of the title. But I think that they will qualify for the next stage.

congrats on great round

I had a solid round too, but cannot say that I am following AFCON much these days, more goals in second round, I will give them a chance in third round

I would like to say happily that I won the yellow cap at the end of the second round. Everyone who has participated in the pool is doing a really great job. There have been very surprising results on the first two weeks of the African cup. Especially, Algeria's performance has been a big disappointment as they are one of the favourites of the title. But I think that they will qualify for the next stage.

Algeria are at the bottom of the group after this upset 👀 what were the odds for a Equatorial Guinea win? 19/1 or something like that?)

<...>superb performance from the Sierra Leone GK,, he's only 22yo, here he is getting a bit emotional after receiving MOTM award

That same goalie just saved a pen by Franck Kessie, i think a proper team needs to take a look at him and sign him, East End Lions ain't good enough for him.  Grin

srsly, the kid is good!
he's totally gonna get signed by a club from europe, could be in the current transfer window or during the summer, the guy has tons of potential to improve
btw, that last minute mistake from the Ivory Coast GK,, what a devastating blow, he looked like he was gonna cry at the end, just painful  Undecided

*EDIT  and we were talking about the pitch the other day  Roll Eyes  https://twitter.com/mitchwilks/status/1482773190749343751

^Need to see the keeper you guys are talking about, he that good eh?
he was immense against the defending champions and today he was the best player in the team

I didn't see your name in the pool and was curious as to where you stood on the leaderboard and why you didn't use your full name. I'm watching every game with a heavy heart, hoping that the playing style will change, but nothing has.

Oh, sorry, I forgot you're new. I'm "Sojourner" on Superbru. My forum nick is actually a nonsense name I only used as when I first signed up, I thought it wouldn't be for long so used a throwaway account. Ironically, my actual forum account made a couple of years before I totally lost, can't even remember the nick, so stuck to using this Wink

Is there any CAF news on the game that concluded in the 89th minute the other day? And what about the Ghanaian team's misbehavior the other day? More dramas will ensue if they let everything slip and no one takes responsibility.

Yeah, extended Tetteh's ban, so he won't see 3 games, if they even get that far. I get why they were incensed, but you know, just can't expect sportsmanship from all teams these days, and you're naive if you get punished for expecting it. I think the whole team should have been fined though.

we have to admit that there are some goals now, compared to round 1, where there was only one goal per game
Nigeria won 3:1 over Sudan, they are proving their worth today, and looking promising to get far

Morocco and Nigeria looking best so far? did not really watched much of games, but they seem as in best shape
I think I completely agree with you that Morocco and Nigeria are the best teams so far, both team are playing with clear conviction and distinct style of play, very organized in possession and defense, both team have played at least one of the favorites each and you can tell about how well they performed in those games.
Both countries are the only ones willing to take chances and play aggressive football; Cameroon is always attacking, but Algeria remains the most dangerous team; the first game did not go as planned, but Algeria will rebound in the second round. Don't dismiss them.

Egypt still can't find a way past Guinea Bissau at half time, despite dominating every aspect of the game so far.
They got the result they wanted but they still struggling, they will not go past the quarter final

Yeah. I stubbornly kept to my predictions even after witnessing the results AND style of the first Matchday, but anyway, we didn't put anything in this pool so I don't mind keeping to my usual style, but entertainment wise, I also feel pretty cheated, especially when you compare this to how they were playing during qualifiers.

I am also missing those guys, at least they were playing for goal more and pushing their teams to keep up. You forgot to mention at least Yay Yay Smiley

I am blaming foreign coaches as heads for African selections which brought super defensive mindset into the play since it was easiest way of getting the result fast. Now when everybody is playing the same game it gets boring to watch.
I didn't want to include attacking midfielders because there are so many, so I just listed some of the top strikers of the last decade. It's not the foreign coaches who are the problem; we have African coaches in Europe as well. It's the players' mindset, particularly in West African countries, who rely on muscle to win games.

These generations are toothless, and I miss players like Emenike of Nigeria, Drogba of Ivory Coast, Cessie of Senegal, Gyan of Ghana, and Smauel Etoo of Cameroon hitting and lighting up the front of their respective national teams. Today's strikers are all toothless and sluggish in front of the net.

The pool is becoming more difficult to forecast, and the underdogs are reaping the benefits.  Grin

Today's strikers are good, just no longer playing in the formation or style of past editions. Why, I've no idea. We gotta blame the coaches as Trofo says. It's even more frustrating when you saw how Senegal played in last WC, or let's even say outsider like Tunisia who still played to score against European teams and now lose miserably to what, Mali (and yes the ref was shit but the team was shittier)?
