Well, there you have it. We all said what we wanted, was it a bump in the road or was it the crumbling of an empire, but Max not only retook the win, he smashed it with 19 seconds, and got the fastest lap.

Judging from the pool, we all didn't think different, either, haha. Sucks to get 13.5 points and still drop a place, sigh.

Well based on Max personal performance I think FIA did not nerf Redbull at all and at Singapore was a complete team mistake that did not permit them to win the race, they got the setup completely wrong in the qualifying which in the race then translated in being impossible to fight even for the podium.

Ferrari is there but from the qualifying that shows Piastri and Norris second and third it looks like McLaren is really in a good performance as of lately and if they did this on such a technical track it shows that they are working well for improving the car although any improvement for the teams for this year is worthless.

Yea but I'm expecting a move from FIA, like they did in 2021 against Mercedes.

If teams will can't find their secret, FIA will do something imho.

I have quite some doubts about this. The problem was the same when Ferrari was dominating in 2000-2005 and the same then with Redbull 2009-2013,the same with Mercedes 2014-2019 and now again the same with Redbull is happening,FIA did not find anything useful to stop any of such dominance from the teams that were dominating so if we rely on FIA I am afraid nothing will happen.

It is up to the teams,Ferrari and McLaren who have done the most in terms of upgrades and then to Mercedes which have also done something but not as much as they should so I think in 2024 we can see Ferrari and McLaren winning more races and who knows maybe fighting for the title or keeping the fight alive to the last races not like in this boring season of 2023.

In the race Ferrari should be in theory better than McLaren as McLaren has always suffered the long distances of a race during this season even when they have upgraded their car in the recent races so based on this I think to make a bet on both McLaren out of the podium should be a great bet for tomorrow as I doubt they can claim a podium in this race and this is being said by me,a McLaren fan.
It's difficult to say and I've expected Ferrari to be stronger in qualification, while I believe Ferrari will lose places tomorrow because Ferrari is always suffering most from tyre degradation, which I expect to be a factor here.
McLaren is very difficult to predict how it will end but maybe we can compare Suzuka to Silverstone? Tracks seem to be similar:
- lots of fast sections (fast corners)
- very few chicanes
- a few straights but not too long ones

And as we know, McLaren performed very well in Silverstone, where Lando and Piastri got position 2 and 3 in qualification. Many people expected McLaren to drop but Norris finished 2nd and Piastri 4th (he was only passed by Hamilton due to a badly timed pitstop due to safety car).
Ferrari performed very badly in that Silverstone race.
Simply, because I belive tracks are similar, I expect a similar result here as well:
- McLaren will have at least 1 driver on podium
- Mercedes will make up places
- Ferrari will drop places

I have Piastri and Verstappen on podium tomorrow for 2.19 odds, so let's see how it goes.
Of course, it's only my expectation, could end up completely different.

I think that Leclerc still have a big chance to be on podium. If Ferrari didn't destroy Leclerc's race in Singapore and made right strategical decisions he would have been on podium. After Singapore Verstappen and Red Bull showed clearly that they were the biggest favourite in Japan again on Saturday.

By the way FIA accepted their mistake in Singapore. They admitted that they were wrong about not giving any penalty to Verstappen for impeding. Sainz also criticized FIA's decision and he is totally right about that. FIA should see everyone equal in this sport. Nobody should be treated different than the others.

When it comes to the qualifying today Verstappen did a really wonderful job. The gap was quite big. McLaren had a great day and Piastri did a great work by taking 2nd place being right ahead of Norris also. This is a good improvement in qualifying for Piastri. Before that his best achievement must be taking 3rd place in qualifying.

Ferrari were worse than I expected. I hope they make a bigger effort in the race.

Even if FIA gave the penalty to Verstappen it would not change anything in the leaderboard so most likely that won't have changed things overall also so even if FIA accepted their mistake and Sainz pointed out still nothing would have changed for the Championship.

RBR seems back in its position but Ferrari at the moment its clearly the second team in the grid.

Tomorrow we finally have the answer if RBR got a nerf or not with the latest updates from FIA.

I'm tagging the members who haven't made any predictions yet because it is at a time in Europe local time that most people might forget about making predictions. I hope that nobody forgets about making predictions. We saw how valuable EBP is in Singapore last week.

There are only 7 races left with the Japan GP for the season to finish. Even though Sainz is in great shape I think that Leclerc will collect more points in the last 7 races.I would gladly accept if there is anyone who would like to make a small side bet with me about this topic.  Grin

but agree, RB bad form rather than blip would be way more interesting.

yeah, it would be much more interesting with rain involved and RB being in bad shape, but looking at practice, it is hard to expect that
so, going with Max as usual

that gets me to BSFL, where I choose him (RB) not to win qualifications, which is an obvious mistake, it seems
nevertheless, cheering for British duo to make something good, or at least Norris, because Hamilton was driving practice as he lost license in the trip to Japan

Slava Ukraini!
Guys, I remind you don't forget to leave picks. It's easy to miss it because qualifying tomorrow begins quite early in the morning for us in Europe. So, it's easy to miss it if you will wake up a bit too late. Damn, people in US have to get up so early most part of season if they want to watch rraces, so, we probably shouldn't complain about several early races Cheesy.
Not really sure about qualifying, but I don't expect something extraordinary from race and Verstappen should win. Red Bull Versappen is looking strong again if we look at practice results.

No rain? So we can all lock our picks in and to hell with it right?

P.S. Big boys at Sportsbet office put their picks in also this week in jeremypwr's prediction thread (not that you guys are the ones needing reminders haha).

I'm wondering whether there will be people among the ones fighting for the championship who will make a choice other than Verstappen for the winner of the race or pole for the Japan GP this week. Especially for pole position I'm expecting to see Sainz Jr's name quite many times. The race in which Red Bull were bad this season has become the best race of the season. I hope that we can see this kind of races more often.

Bets? I'd do that any time most of the time. Superbru? Max is the Haaland of F1. You don't pick him, you lose. Sainz repeats a shocker and we'll have people considering switching camps though... but agree, RB bad form rather than blip would be way more interesting.

Have been flip flopping my selections for the Japanese GP the last few times between Mercedes or Mclaren finishing top for this race.
Had counted Red Bull out for this race due to what happened in Singapore but this might be a mistake.

McLaren have undoubtedly won me over with the upgrades and their driver's performance in the last couple of races. Thus changing my opinion on who will take the podium this weekend as this video from Formula News Today shows:

!st small info for the weekend, it should be almost for sure a weekend without any drop of rain.

What a pity! Rain has always been a factor adding some thrill to the races in Japan. For the first time this season there are big question marks in my head about whether Verstappen would be able to win before the race weekend. I hope that we can watch a competitive race just as it happened in Singapore.

Ferrari was quite strong a few years ago in Japan.

It will be an interesting weekend to see if RBR will be nerfed after the last change of rules or not.

Yep , Ferrari have always had strong races in Japan so I expect them to do at least good.

Unfortunately for me , I forgot for a couple of races that I was still in the F1 pool and now , I will stay on that last place until the end of the season  Grin Grin. I think if you don't have the necessary time to make your picks and stuff , you don't stand a chance to be in top 10 at least  Grin

In other pools even if you forgot one week picks you could still recover as there are a lot of weeks with more points in your disposal than here.In this type of pool one missed week is devastating, now you can imagine if you have forgotten several weeks what happens  Grin, you are going to stay last.

Only 7 races to go and things are getting pretty hot at the top,now that Ferrari is in better form it can mess up the standings even further than they did in this last race in Singapore.I have to watch again the free practices tomorrow before deciding my picks for Suzuka.

The last results in Formula 1 have started to be for the benefit of Ferrari more. Because of that I'm thinking about giving more chances to Ferrari drivers for the remaining races in the calendar. But it will still be difficult to predict the right podium of course. Because for example the most recent podium was pretty interesting.  Grin

Red Bull drivers' not being on podium caused this to happen though. But still the recent races tell me that we might continue to see more attention getting races as of now.

For Japan GP, I think that Verstappen will make compensation for the Singapore GP strongly.

I think so too but if Ferrari have truly upgraded in all tracks then it will be interesting to see how it unfolds this upcoming race in Suzuka. This is a very technical track, one of the legendary tracks in F1 and I think the drivers play an important role in the overall performance of the car here,it is not you just have the best car and you are going to win the race easily, sure having the best car is an enormous amount of help but in here simply put is not enough. That is why I will put my alarm on 7 AM for Sunday to watch the race as unfortunately European time is not a suitable one for this race.
