I'm very excited as we are going to watch exactly 3 races in the upcoming 4 weeks. Everyone who has joined the prediction contest on the topic has chosen Verstappen for pole position so far. Don't you think there is any chance for a surprise to happen after Ferrari's performance in Monza?

It's a gamble - Verstappen ends up on pole position 58% of the time this season.
If the question was Verstappen or anybody else, than I guess risking it would be a good way to go.

Fastest lap is a more interesting one though - I just don't know who to pick. Again - Verstappen's got it 43% of the time - but from all other drivers only Perez and Hamilton won it twice.

^  Wait, you saying that Verstappen is good just because of his car..?

Of course not. I said that I accept Verstappen is a very good driver. I'm thinking like this independently from the car he drives. However there is a fact that Red Bull have the best car on the grid now. This makes things much easier for a very skilled driver like Verstappen to become this much dominant as well.

On the other hand I would think the same for another very good driver if they drive the same car in Verstappen's stead. For example if one of the drivers I mentioned in my previous post is brought to Verstappen's place that driver would also become very successful. This is why I praised Red Bull engineers too as they did a great work on the car.  Smiley

As I told you a not long time ago.

Toto Wolff released an interview saying back in 2021 FIA changed the rules in the winter to stop the domination of Mercedes.

In a few months, they decided to reduce the drag by 30% in the rear of the car and it was the major strength for them.

I think they can do the same of the end of the season, changing unilaterally the rules to "nerf" RBR.

Rando news flashing past me reminds that even Hammie thinks Max has a "weak" teammate (compared to his earlier seasons).

I think there is just perception bias here. Neither Max nor Perez is quite as noisy as others have been in the past and now with amplified media, the difference becomes starker. And then a subdued presence is associated with weaker performance. Rubbish.

Wait what?  I don't see any thread or announcement about any UCL pool.  That's the only football pool I wanna join this year.  Tourney format, midweek matches and the best clubs all over Europe.  Wink  Where do I sign up?

Right?! I sent you an invite earlier actually, but I'll send it again!

I see the leaderboard has finally shifted at the top, great job all you chasers as we approach the final quarter of the season. I'm still maintaining my position in 8th, just hope I'm more of a Piastri climbing up or even Leclerc, and not ending up like a Yuki and going out when the going gets tough haha. I had some people over at my place (Dutch) and while they're pleased with Max, they all seem to really like the way Tsunoda rubs off on them. Not sure if it's the same reason I liked him from last season (I have an underdog bias though).

Concur though that "best driver" is an argument that's as futile as GOAT drivel in football/sports/etc. I enjoy athletes, I love them all.

tokeweed man why isn't your ass in UCL pool?

^  Wait, you saying that Verstappen is good just because of his car..?  Then why can't Perez make the drivers championship close?  I think right now, at this version of Verstappen, in the same car he'll edge out Sainz, Russell and Leclerc.  It's Hamilton who could really make it close imho.  But that's just me.

No but is the combination, Verstappen is the best driver or one of the best drivers in the best car.

When Perez is in a good day he also has 1 second lap time faster in races ahead of the other cars, so it is definitely the best car.

Verstappen is capitalizing on this car just like Vettel did before with the same team when he won 4 Championships, then Hamilton did the same with Mercedes where he won 6 Championships with them,1 with McLaren he had a long time ago in 2008.So as Sainz said,it is not Verstappen fault that he drives this well, each team had an equal chance of working on creating the best car,Redbull did it and now Verstappen is enjoying the benefits.

Redbull is the strongest car even by Lewis Hamilton when he said Max would not be enjoying himself so much if I was in the same car as him like he is enjoying now with Perez as a team mate.

I think we've seen how good and gutsy Verstappen is during the 2021 season when he went toe to toe against Hamilton in a slightly inferior car.  I think any other driver would have folded under the kind of pressure he brings on the track.  Verstappen was willing to get the gloves off and risk his race than accepting to be outraced by Hamilton.  It was a brilliant season win or lose.

I'm not saying the car has nothing to do with winning races but saying Verstappen isn't a brilliant driver and that Russell could beat him in the same car any day of the week is just wrong.  I mean Albon could beat Russell in some races in his Williams.

And about Schumacher, just like your argument about RBR's team, most of the engineering team at Benetton went with Schumacher at Ferrari.

I accept that Verstappen is a very good driver. However we need to accept that the result won't change if we put Sainz, Russell, Hamilton or Leclerc in his car today as well. Red Bull engineers should be the ones receiving the actual praise here. They managed to do a much better work than all of their opponents.

Schumacher's signing for Ferrari was a big challenge in those times' conditions. And Schumacher put his stamp on history as a legend by being successful at Ferrari as well.

For me doesnt matter if it was one team two team or 3 team champion in this case, because we are talking about dominant car and no matter what team is if it is a dominant car still a ominant car an a easy win. Sorry if i become repetitive in my last sentence.

I still repeat the main fault for me in all this hibryd era is from Ferrari, from the big 3 (Ferrari, RBR, Mercedes) two has produced dominant cars and Ferrari dont in all this years.

Hamilton won World Champion's title in 2 cars as well.
First time, he won in McLaren 2008 and later he won in Mercedes 5 times (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019).

Yeah but I think is a bit different since it was Mclaren Mercedes at start, so they may had the same men in both teams. Atleast some of them

Verstappen is really unstoppable. This is just a way different kind of domination I have ever seen. He has even broken a record of winning 10 consecutive races. He was equal with Vettel before the race in Monza. It looks like Verstappen can even continue to improve this record to a much higher level.

There are still 8 more races in the calendar. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes this record 18 races.  Grin  As long as he doesn't have a problem with the car I don't see a way to stop him.

The only one who won with 2 very different cars is Schumacher.
Hamilton won World Champion's title in 2 cars as well.
First time, he won in McLaren 2008 and later he won in Mercedes 5 times (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019).

But yes, it's very difficult to win World Champion's title in 2 different cars.
Maybe Verstappen can do it as well but he'll probably stay at RedBull. I don't see him changing teams any time soon.

Great race from Ferrari after all, especially at home.
Hopefully, Ferrari can gain some confidence but I mostly believe it's track related as Ferrari has been doing well on fast tracks, like Azerbaijan earlier.

For this kind of seasons its where i found a very silly question like who is the best driver of all times? a very stupid question.

Because its a non sense when you have a full dominant car and also the other cars are shit compared to you, i dont really know how good are you really. Im not saying Verstappen its not one of the best, because he show to all in several seasons how good he is, but this World Championship are more from manufacter than driver for me.

Was the same at Senna time.
When he won with Mcleared he had a car like the Redbull of today, very very very dominant.

The only one who won with 2 very different cars is Schumacher.

Verstappen is kicking asses this season, he is in best form of his life and I dont remember time when anyone was being so dominant in every race.
Red Bull Formula helped him but Sergio Perez has the same car and he is not winning so much this season.
Singapore Grand Prix will be interesting to watch, Ferrari had great results there in previous seasons.

I wish I put Sainz instead of Leclerc to third place.  Grin  I thought Leclerc would have a better race. He was actually nearly overtaking Sainz in the last moments but Sainz defended him really well. But Vasseur must have watched that rivalry really worriedly. In case of an accident they would have both been out of podium.

Ferrari drivers must have made their fans satisfied with their determination at least. Sainz could have defended Verstappen much better if he had a better car but he still did a good job. He would have stalled Verstappen behind more though if it wasn't for that simple mistake.
